Snow

Recommended Posts

We've only had 8" of snow, and it hasn't snowed for several days. The thing is its frozen solid our road is like glass we can't drive out at all. The temperature last night was -14c it hasn't risen above -8c all day, and now they say tonight will be even colder! it's now -10c.

Our road at 2pm today, the arrow shows our gate..........

My parents moved to Cornwall this year. Not much chance of them making it to Hampshire for Christmas then!

Might be the last year with the children truely beliving too.

Cornwall has escaped most of the bad stuff. Have a friend who is cabin crew down at Newquay and no sign of snow there. The bad spots are around Exeter - so caution needs to be taken on the A38 from Plymouth up to Exeter. It's very bad around the Haldon Hill/Chudleigh area that drops down into Exeter. I would also avoid the A30 via Bodmin moor - will be treacherous. Not sure which road is best to be honest! :anxious:

The M5 from Exeter to Bristol is passable (with care) and was down to one lane only earlier. But there have been loads of accidents and no doubt as the big freeze continues it will only get worse. :(

Still snowing here!

it was -12 last night when I went to pick up Nat at 1ish.

The roads aren't too bad, but I was dropping a friend off on a private road and skidded all the way round the corner. They thought I was going to go into the wall but I managed to stop it in time and was ok!

 Did controlled skids with my instructor last year. Could do it here atm in a quiet car park + handbrake ;)

No more snow here at the moment, only -1.6deg and all the icicles on the houses are dripping - is this the promised thaw? We'll get flooded when it does all melt

Good good :D Hopefully will get to Banbury tomorrow morning then ;)

Has stopped snowing here :D

Fabby piccy OSH - congratulations. We just had loads of thick cloud. No more snow, slightly misty but the weather forecasters have changed their minds again and snow due for tonight estimation 4cm's. Pah! All melting at the moment. Hope it clears up as I need to pick up my veg from the farm not a million miles from Christian. Aha Christian you have more snow than us this time then!

Oh well, somebody has to on this thread:

Wonderful picture, OSH... .We had the eclipse eclipsed by snow clouds - which was a bit sad. Heavy falls yesterday and overnight but nothing at the moment. I'm trying not to panic re daughter in Cardiff & presents for most people from Amazon...We'll be fine without the presents, but the thought of L all alone in her student house for Christmas is just not bearable. She doesn't finish work til 5.00 on Christmas Eve....very bad for my nerves :anxious:

The snow is very slowly melting here; not that we had much to start with. For the first time in their little lives some of the orps decided to explore the snow. Cue much flapping of wings and bunny hopping! Our local forecast is for plus temps till Christmas so here's hoping they're correct. I've bought my Mum an indoor/outdoor thermometer so we can exchange weather stories in the NY :D

:D:D:D

Great pics, which ones are yours? I saw it this morning over Cadbury's walking to the station, unfortunately it was partially obscured by a veil of fog :(

I got some snow pics published in the local paper today, so if anyone has the Bimingham Mail you'll see them!

Not great underfoot round here and still ridiculous amounts of dirty snow on the roads. Cars still skidding around. Massive icicles now hanging off houses, lampposts and other places, including cars. It might be dangerous when they thaw and drop off.

I went into Tesco at lunchtime for a few bits and pieces and was amazed at the folk pushing trolleys heaving with food.
