brambles
What are the thoughts on eggs which are laid first thing then not collected until I get in from work in the evening. They seem very cold, but I haven't cracked them to see if they are as frozen as all the other things outside. Will I give us food poisoning? Plum
Why? More problem if they are in the sun all day. Let us know how they cook up
brambles
They are first eggs too - funny time of year to come into lay - that's my araucana and Sussex for you!

Cinnamon
I just quickly (very, very quickly!) cleaned my hens out & found a soft shelled egg frozen solid in the poo tray. Can't tell you how weird it was.
meezers
my araucane also came into lay last week and has calmed down since Can you get your Araucana to have a word with mine please, I'm desperate for eggs but she's taking her own sweet time Meant to add, I have eggs in the freezer to see me through this egg drought . The consistency and colour seem to alter slightly but they are fine for cooking .Chilled eggs from the nestbox will be fine.

green
Blimey! I'd better keep an eye on the girls and keep checking for eggs. Not holding much hope though, it was -15C last night!
Olly
I had this on Saturday morning, for the first time ever. I saw the first egg had a vertical split in it, but I still couldn't quite believe it until I brought it in and tried to crack it. The hens were fine - I assume the eggs froze after they left the Eglu, because their body temperature would have kept the heat up inside there, and they would have been laid during the day on Friday while I was at work. I had two normal eggs on Saturday and one yesterday, but I was able to collect those a bit sooner.
fluffyfeet
I've had 2 of these in 2 days, so I've just popped them in a dish to defrost and will scramble them up for the girls later. Dawn x

craftyhunnypie
I went to egg collect about 1ish today & there was a beautiful egg in the cube. Went to pick it out & it was frozen, heavy & split. I was a bit amazed really. Hubby's car did read minus 9 though on the temprature & I've had to pour warm water in all the drinkers twice already. chicken bark
I had a frozen split one a week or so ago. I'm amazed the hens are still laying.
Snowy
I had my first frozen one this morning - it must have been laid late yesterday so been there all night. Nice neat little split all along it - currently defrosting, it will be interesting to see if it's been adversely affected by it's freeze!
