Ed Picaloon C Boodle
Hey all So I was just wondering what your Christmas gift to your hens is. My own; Free ranging in the snow: my girls just love looking for stuff in the snow in the snow trampling through the thicker parts! Vast amounts of Veg: Christmas would not be Christmas without Brussel Sprouts, parsnips and Swede, so all of the leftovers go to the lucky chucks. Ice: They never get tired of it, silly girls! So what is your ideal chucky Christmas then? Darkest of all Jedi Ed

Gelbel
Well, mine are obviously getting a visit from Father Christmas. They think they have been good enough and have sent him 'messages'. They have asked for mealworms, sweetcorn, bean sprouts and a whole new WIR. They've also asked for a dustbath. They don't want much then. What do you mean I'm several eggs short of a clutch? Luvachicken
Mine are getting a big bag of mealworms - and they had a new door and some extra roosting bars as an early pressie the other day. Have to make up for last year as that was their first Christmas and I was away
scrambledhead
Mine got their own sprout tree last year, they hated it! Eventually I rescued it from the snow, cooked the sprouts and then they were happy..
Ed Picaloon C Boodle
@Gelbel "What do you mean I'm several eggs short of a clutch?"This made me chuckle!! I have been thinking of planting a tree in the run, to help drain it when it gets a bit too water logged, plus shade for them from the sun and the rain. Any suggestions as to type and so on? Many thanks! Wish you all a happy hen Christmas! Darkest of all Jedi Ed

Burtie14
Ours need to make some serious improvements if Santa is going to pay them a visit. "Betty, have you been a good chicken this year?" "Not really, I've been pecking all the other chickens, digging up the plants, escaping, causing havoc, jumping at Daddy when he's trying to hang up our greens, pecking his buttons, and barging him out of the way and tripping him up whenever he gets in the way of my important business. Realistically I'm not holding out for much this Crimbo." "Ginger, have you been a good chicken this year?" "I think so, although I have spent the last week shouting at the top of my voice at the snow. It seems to be working, because it's slowly going away. I'll keep shouting though, just to be on the safe side." "Dusty, have you been a good chicken this year?" "Yes, I was a very good girl until yesterday when I wiped a load of stinking cack on Daddy's nice clean gloves, and then smashed him in the eye with my massive muscular wing." "Jim, have you been a good chicken this year? Jim? Jim? Where are you going? Why are you running away! Why are you hiding? Jim! Come back! Jim!!" Blooming chickens... I pushed willow sticks in the ground to make a support for sweetpeas and they grow, then they grow, then they grow and grow and grow Good fun making it though

Luvachicken
Think my girls are going to get some toys http://www.petsathome.com/shop/chicken/chicken-toys/ Plum, I bought both of these last year but they have gone very rusty and the girls didn't even take any notice of them. Maybe your chickens are more adventurous than mine.

craftyhunnypie
Blimey I best have the Xmas talk with all of mine..all 36 of them! I'm not sure Santa will visit Annie or Basehunter. Annie has been escaping & Basehunter has been broody even in the snowy weather! Mighty Spongebob has well deserved his Xmas treat. He's been quieter lately, less crowing, not jumping at me & has become a great granddad this year! I'll line them all up tomorrow & ask them all what they'd like.
