Our Ex Batts *PICS*

Recommended Posts

Hi :D

We collected our gorgeous ex batts today :D

Here are some pics that I quickly snapped just after we arrived home...the light was fading

It was lovely to meet you Em and Tasha...not sure if I met any other Omleteers or not

The girls followed my torch into the Eglu and were tucked up in bed by 4.20pm

I didn't expect them to be so sturdy on their feet...couldn't believe that they walked to the end of the run where I was standing almost immediately...honestly thought they would spend the first couple of days in the Eglu!

They are totally amazing and perky

Collecting them today is one of the best things I have ever done

Well done, I've now had mine 2 months and I still remember one standing still not moving for the first hour! Two have now moulted and grown new feathers an look great but still droopy combs, one of them follows me around the garden and we have to push her off the back door step to get out of the kitchen!

Tee hee hee Tasha

It was lovely to meet you and all the really lovely volunteers :D

You met my two younger children...Christian (9) and Ellin (5)...my dear little miracle...she's amazing considering she was born at just 26 weeks gestation weighing just 1lb 14.5oz and suffering from meningitis at birth

Am really hoping the 'pecker' of the bunch stops...do you think she will when she realises where the food is? or do you think i will have to get some anti-pecking spray?

Thank you for making today a very enjoyable experience...I will give my girls all the love and care I can :D

Aw bless - I was surprised by how feisty mine were, and by how quickly they started coming out. They're a lot less timid than my old girls, always running through my legs and trying to get into the kitchen! They remind me of our lovely first chicken, Maggie. She was super-friendly and bold as well :( Enjoy them, I'm already planning some more!

addicted eh Aunty e? That wont happen to me! :anxious:

Snoxy - your family was lovely, Ellin is very sweet bless her - what a difficult start for her :(

See how it goes tomorrow, once they settle they may well be ok - more than one food station wll help, a galley cup would do if you dont have another feeder - once they learn that they dont have to fight for food apparently things get a little easier

Keep an eye on them and be prepared to get the spray if you feel things are getting out of hand

Oh Snoxy they are lovely...and so are you for giving them a caring home. (I wish I could take some on , but nowhere to home them at the moment) ...If only you could explain to them that everything is going to be alright now.....but they'll find that out for themselves soon enough :D xx

Lovely to see the photos of your new girls, how clever of them to follow the torch into the eglu at bed time!

As Tasha has said about the pecking, just wait and see how it settles down. When I collected my girls, Bella was a real horrid hen, she wouldn't leave the others alone for a second, she just pecked at them all the time and stood IN the food so that they couldn't get to it.

A few extra feed stations hastily organised and some free ranging after a few days soon helped things settle as she realised there were far more interesting things to do :D She is now the most docile and sweetest of my hens and (shhh, don't tell the others) secretly my favourite. I think they do come with bad behaviours from the battery farms, after all, what else have they had to do to occupy themselves, poor little mites.

Great to see pictures Lou :D

As said before the more feed stations the better - you should see my runs the first few days I have batts home - there are three coup cups per hen

Most of the pecking will just be standard pecking order stuff and should settle. They will have had their own pecking order within their cage at the farm and now they are with a new group of "friends" and are getting used to each other.

Spray might be handy to have on standby but hopefully when they realise what a lovely life they have with you they will chillax! :D

Do you mean purple spray or anti-pecking spray...didn't seem to be much pecking today but I will spend more time with them tomorrow :D

What exactly is a coup cup?

Did you see Scarlettohara's post asking if you had rehomed all the hens yesterday?

Thanks for all your help...you are an
