Can we talk bras?

Recommended Posts

blueKarin Bradbears in Romsey is quite good for bras and there just Jane in salisbury. BUT I recommend a trip up to London for Bravissimo ( I do one a year and yes its expensive but I don't hurt or bounce for the rest of the year) ...I know there is a branch in reading..but they were not well stocked when I went.

PS 36 HH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gave up being measured years ago after a sniffy woman in the local one-shop underwear store (since closed) told me that they didn't stock teen bras  I have a broad back and not much on the front, so am a 34AA. I buy M&S TShirt bras as I like plain ones, flesh coloured, no lace or trims and a good support for sports, although I do wear a sports bra.

I went up to a 34C when I was breastfeeding, but hated the larger boobs.

Rosie is bigger than me and a competitive swimmer; she is a 40AA which is almost impossible to find! Like me, she prefers discreet flesh coloured bras.

I used to work in Knightsbridge many years ago and the only accurate and decent measure/fit service I had was when I treated myself to a bra from Rugby & Peller... fantastic, and I have used their tips and advice ever since and never had a poorly fitting bra.

My daughter & I did a day trip to London to visit Bravissimo a few years ago, before the Reading branch was opened. We both went in as DD's & came out as F's.

We are big fans. I bought a couple of bras a years or so ago which felt great in the changing room, but after wearing them for a day or so became unbelievably uncomfortable (that is one shift at work I NEVER want to repeat!)

I took them back & they refunded me in full,no questions.

It seems that as I have a very rounded bust,I cannot wear Panache,as they are just the wrong shape for me,but this only become apparent after moving around a bit.

I am popping back there next week for a fit, actually :D

Ah but have you been into Just Janes? I was put off going in there when I was in college, and when I went in recently with my friend who was after some maternity tights, they were really most unhelpful. I am going to London with my sisters at the end of this month so I may see if I can pop in. Do you need an appointment or can they measure you (assuming they aren't too busy)?

Good point Cinnamon - even if you get the right size, it's worth trying different makes as they vary so much in shape and comfort. I'm another who cannot wear Panache - I think they are designed for taller women! They seem to fit beautifully but after a day the wires start to cut in under my arms - horrendous!

Whereas Fantasie, whatever the style, fit perfectly every time and are supremely comfortable 8)

Agreed, all but one of my bras are Fantasie and they really are comfortable and give a great shape. I have one Freya bra too (they are so pretty) but had to try on quite a lot of different ones before finding one that fitted properly. But I really don't think you can go wrong with Fantasie.

The best bra fitting that I have ever had was in Debenhams, I had previously been measured by M&S as a 38B and then the lady in Debenhams gave a quick measure with the tape but came back with a few differnt sizes and styles and I came out as a 36D, so much more comfortable. I have narrow shoulders that are slightly curved, I come from a family of varying degrees of hunchbackedness, I remember one poor maiden aunt from my childhood who looked like a right angle poor woman. I also lost any tone that I had after breastfeeding two of my children, I need a style that has plenty of central support and a full cup to keep things in place.

My ED is the same size as me even though she is only a size 10-12, she has a broad back and wide shoulders

I have always been a 'big' girl and was always fitted at Bravissimo. However, I had a breast reduction about 2 1/2 years ago (best thing I ever did!) and went from a 36L to somewhat smaller! Having fed ES till he was 2 1/2 and YS to 14 months tho expressing every 4 hours as he was a 29 weeker and never breast fed properly I went up from 36 F to 36 L!

After the op and when everything had settled down I went back to Bravissimo and they fitted me as a 34 E but, having worn the bras for a few days, they were very tight and left me with horrible red marks. I did a quick 'smash and grab' in local M&S (or S&M as its known in our house) and got a 36E which fitted perfectly. Styles do vary, even with the same manufacturer, but I have settled on a 36E - always trying on first - and have sort of lost faith in Bravissimo now.

I always thought it was the straps that were important but apparently its the back that gives the support and so should be fitting horizontally and not riding up - the straps just give a bit of extra ommph! Managed to pick up a Playtex 36E in local TK Maxx over half term but only because the boys were fascinated with the underwear dept and found a huge pair of very frilly knickers and got the giggles (imagime 7 yr old and 4 yr old hand in hand and incapable of anything but chanting 'frilly knickers, frilly knickers' whilst giggling madly! Got some VERY odd looks but it did give me the chance to shepherd them into the changing room long enough to try on said 36E - will probably give them a complex!)

Like just a couple of others on here I too could do with a recommendation as to where to get bras for a gal with a non existent bust e.g 34A to 34AA but a will to pretend to something more. The best I've found is Next online (but not the shops) however even they are doing fewer and fewer smaller sizes.

Debenhams have 219 different bras in size 34A and 10 in size 34AA. Debenhams do use a tape to measure the size but have been spot on with me, measuring me the same as Bravissimo who do it by eye.

Perhaps there is a link between chicken keeping and big boobs.........??

Bravissimo all the way for me and either Fantasie or Freya (in fact I think they're the same company it's just that Freya are aimed at their younger market so are prettier and brighter colours).

Love the clothing range too - shirts that actually fit without either hanging off my shoulders or gaping at the front.

I'm embarrassed to say I've never been measured for a bra.

I always used to be a 32a, but now I'm a 34b, I think  I buy my bras in Tesco, they seem to fit really well and are a little more generous in the cup than M&S. Thankfully, the Tesco bras are between £4 and £8, very pretty and have matching knickers. They have a lot of small sizes too!

Same here.At first I was really impressed with them, but then I realised that no matter what size you are when you go in they will always take you up a cup size (or more) and down a chest size (or more) if you see what I mean...with the result for me that I ended up with hideous back fat, so whilst the front looked ok the back looked dreadful and they left awful red marks when I took them off

M and S sorted me out. I think more important than the size of the bra is the shape...I need a balcony bra because of the way I'm made, I can't get away with plunge or even T shirt bras...they are just the wrong shape for me...And also when you go for a fitting...some fitters are just better than others at it, and luckily we have a great lady working in our local M and S... :D
