Sheilaz
Following the suceess of other Omleteers in parts 1 and part 2, here we go for 2012, with a focus on balanced eating to stay/become fit and healthy. My aim is to lose 8lbs in 8 weeks initially, I have about 1 stone or so in total. The plan is to eat plenty and enjoy food, but in a healthy balanced way, drinking plenty of water, and taking time for both exercise and relaxation. I'm starting every day with porridge, and having 2 more meals and 3 small snacks, no skipping meals nor obsessing, it will just become a way of life. Anyone else like to join in with a personal target for May 1st? Edited March 13, 2012 by Guest
Lesley
I'll join you Sheila - I'd like to lose another 10lbs by May 1st although we will be away for a couple of days in April so perhaps half a stone is more realistic. I have lost 8lbs since mid January. I am registered with WW online because I used Topcashback which meant it was half price and I had access to all my recipes from last year. I don't eat much chocolate these days but going through a bit of a stressful time and could go back to it if I'm not careful.
chickencam
I really must take myself in hand too, I started the year well, then as usual got a bit down in late January early February. We usually eat well as a family, but have let things slide a bit recently, so need to buckle down and sort it out, should be easier with the better weather lighter evenings and looking forward to fresh produce again. Sheilaz
Good to hear from you Lesley and Liz, I'm hoping this topic will be a good incentive for us. I deliberately avoided Jan & Feb for this, as I come out of hibernation in March. One pound a week should be really easy, but my weight fluctuates daily, so I'm looking for a loss that stays off. I know that I do better if I know in advance what I'll have for a meal, so I'm concentrating on not leaving it until I'm hungry to decide what to have. I tend to make healthier choices and enjoy them if I can get in the habit of planning aheadbut I'm not very good at it yet.
Sheilaz
Well, how are the 3 of us doing this week? I've edited the title as I'm sure we can't be the only ones who would like this challenge. I instantly lost focus, but will take it day by day. Together with taking exercise, I've been advised to eat protein, fat and carbs in equal measures. This makes sense to me to kick start my metabolism and as a healthy long term plan and means I don't get hungry. Personally, I steer away from all talk of cutting out carbs, it can be false economy for me. Eating complex carbs is good and I no longer crave sugary food, as long as I eat little and often. The days that I achieve this, and drink extra water, I feel a lot better for it.
chickencam
I have been very active, our diet is definitely healthier at the moment, we are making the effort to get some fresh fish from a local market every Saturday and to cook it in a simple way that lets the fish shine. We had some lovely mackerel this week grilled with a light herb and lemon butter with a salad, I love good food, but it is so easy to slip into lazy habits. Lesley
We're having an odd time at the moment and eating the wrong food at odd times - I'll sort myself out soon I agree about not cutting out any of the food groups Sheila.

Lesley
Only just started Cathy - apart from me but I'm getting there.....I'll be back on track soon.
Sheilaz
Hiya Cathy, I'm glad you've joined us, does 8lb by May 1st sound achievable to you? Thank you for your encouragement Lesley, we'll all take small steps together. I was struggling to get started, but this week I have been planning meals a day ahead. I find that really helps as I make better choices that way, and I'm less likely to raid cupboards in desperation. Inspired by Liz's post, I'm trying to incorporate a bit more fish into our diet, it was delicious tonight, a balanced meal that didn't feel heavy. Tigerlily
Hiya can I join too please? I am also a hibernator! March is always a better month for me as I feel happier once the sun starts to shine and Spring is in the air... I desperately want to shift some weight and this seems very achievable - as long as everyone here keeps me on the straight and narrow I plan to eat more healthily & eat more fish & veg too and get more exercise through walking and my Wii fit! How is everyone else getting on?
Sheilaz
Welcome aboard, Tigerlily! I also like walking as exercise and it's invaluable thinking time too. I'd forgotten about Wii Fit, I might get E to set it up again this weekend. I'll only do short sessions on it, but it's fun as well as effective, what disc will you use? I might weigh myself next week to see if I'm shifting anything, I'm not weighing weekly but want to make sure I'm going in the right direction! Bought some lovely fruit and veg, so quite a good couple of days here.
AndreaT
Can I join too please? I do Slimming World on and off but it should be more on and this will give me some motivation! My niece is getting married later this year and I could do with a kick start for that, I'm fed up of looking horrible on photos! I'll get my Wii Fit out too! Lesley
Hmmmm - my Wii must have cobwebs on it again I've found my willpower again today so have had a good day. I've certainly upped my exersize this week......I do an hour long session of Aquafit twice a week anyway but this week I've had to accompany my granddaughter to the gym (as she's been referred to help her maintain her muscle strength in a bid to minimise her dislocation problems) and as I'm a member then I thought I'd work alongside her. I did an extra hour on Tuesday and 45 minutes today, straight after an hour of Aquafit I weighed less than I thought I would this morning so it's going in the right direction. My Mum has a special birthday coming up in May and I'd like the dress I'd like to wear to fit a bit better than it does and to tone my 'bingo wings'

Bought some lovely fruit and veg, so quite a good couple of days here. Thank you Teabag I love walking as well but I've been having knee problems (must go to my GP) so I'm trying not to overdo things! I have also been suffering with depression so more exercise and thinking time can only be a benefit to me at the moment. I have temporarily reduced my working hours for six months so once I drop my little chick off at nursery I am planning to use some of my spare time gardening (well tidying up after the velociraptors who trash my garden lol ) and going power walking through the park! Sorry mods if this is slightly going off topic - I will get to the healthy eating bit asap! As for the Wii Fit - Just Dance 2 is quite a giggle but I love the Yoga and hula hooping on Wii Fit Plus!!! I also do the step and find that the canoeing game helps the upper arms and my "bingo wings" (lol Lesley). I've had a lovely dinner ( ahem Mods!) I had salmon fillet (drizzled with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar) with salad and it was gorgeous! but... I've had a cheeky glass of white, so may have undone my good intentions I certainly plan to reduce my red meat intake and become more veggie! I think eggs may feature in my diet as well! Let's hope more join in too xxx I'm the same as you - I hate looking at myself in photos and we are off on holiday in June and I certainly don't want Greenpeace turning up to try and put me back out to sea!!! AndreaT
Does anyone have any nice healthy fish/and or veggie recipesI can try? I've got a lovely SW fish pie recipe, I'm sure there's some veggie ones too. I'll have a look and post in the morning. I'm not going to say what I had for dinner and I'm going out tomorrow night for drinks and dinner so not getting off to a good start, but I'll pick healthy of the menu and no dessert Ooo, just remembered I have some homemade soup in the freezer. I'll get in out for tomorrows lunch and it'll be either weetabix or porridge for breakfast. That should make up for the bad evening I'll have! superkitty
Can I join, ladies? just got back from a bootcamp where I lost 5lbs, now just have 9lbs to go and planning to lose it sensibly. I had an attack of chocolate-Philadelphia-on-toast-eating when I got home late last night so am thinking that it would be helpful to be accountable to someone else! superkitty
Tiger lily, I'm a big fan of fish baked in foil. I usually get any kind of fillet (salmon, haddock etc) and make a little foil parcel for it. You can spread a teaspoon or two of pesto on the fish, or just sprinkle it with herbs - also putting fennel leaves in is a favourite - but because it gets steamed in the parcel you dont need to use large quantitites. It usually just takes 10-15 mins to cook in the oven and doesn't fill the house with the smell of fish. The good thing is that there's no oil apart from the good oil in the fish, but also whatever you add in really infuses into the fish. Will often have just that with a monster salad for my dinner. LolaLayla
Can I join you too I was on the Omleteer fit for 2012 thread but have damaged my back and have had to stop exercising. I used to go to the gym about 4 times a week so weight is going on I am even struggling to garden The 8lbs off by May would be ideal My YS has also discovered baking which on one hand is wonderful,as his sticky toffee pudding was amazing but hopeless for weight reduction (he works weekends in a cafe and is getting tuition there - next it's chocolate torte ) I just really need support to say no to all the goodies and buy healthy food. AndreaT
Can I join you too Only if you promise no more gardening! I'm trying to do more baking, I have to take it into work so I don't eat it all myself! I'm not that good really but they all seem to appreciate it Here's the fish pie recipe, it's a bit fiddly but tastes lovely! 1kg potatoes 596ml fish stock 1 onion, peeled and quartered 2 bay leaves 5-6 tbsp chopped parsley 198g frozen peas 198g can sweetcorn, drained 2 lvl tbsp veg gravy granules 1 egg beaten 800g fish - they suggest white fish and prawns but I used cod and salmon (what ever is on offer!) Oven; 200C/Gas 6 Cook the potatoes and mash using 100ml of the stock. Keep warm Place the fish in a pan with the remaining stock. Add the onion and bay leaves, bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 8 - 10 minutes. Lift the fish on to a plate and strain the stock into a jug to cool. Flake the fish and place in a baking dish. Scatter over the peas, sweetcorn and parsley. To make the sauce return the stock to the heat, bring to the boil and cook for 8-10 mins, stirring continuously. Add the gravy granules, stir and cook until the sauce coats the back of the spoon. Remove from heat, season and pour over fish. Top with the mash and brush with beaten egg. Bake for about 30 minutes. Enjoy!
LolaLayla
Can I join you too Only if you promise no more gardening! Sadly I just can't look out at it and not feel frustrated, but will do my best However, with regards healthy eating, just feeling I have someone looking over my shoulder is really helpful
