Lose 8lb in 8 weeks? Healthy Eating Chat 3

Recommended Posts

Another 1lb off - that's half a stone shifted already before Xmas. :D

As I don't drink alcohol anymore ( post Gallbladder op) - it seems to be very easy.

I made a lemon cous cous cake thingy. Nothing like cake at all & most people wouldn't like. But I love cous cous & lemon flavour so it's nice. It even has a quark & lemon curd topping.

Being out on the land is very good exercise too - especially doing stock fencing, cleaning chickens out & seeing to sheep.

I have finally lost about 4lb, doesn't sound much but it makes me feel and look better, I have been a lot more active recently and have taken up regular swimming again and the odd game of badminton with my family, i have also eaten less this summer. I will be happy if I can lose another 10lb or so.

 Well done Liz, and also Emma, ANH, and TheGirlsMum a while back.

As the person who started the topic, I have maintained but not shifted a single ounce in nine months!

I may have lost the whole lot temporarily in one stressful day last week, but in general I am stuck where I started

Still, ever the unbearably cheerful optimist, I am restarting!

I am paying attention to eating healthily and exercising but just need to shift up a gear. I do need to get a good balance of relaxation too as I get exhausted easily, so it's about being healthy more than weight loss, but that next 8lbs would be brilliant, and it definitely mustn't creep up.

Anyone else still around, Cathy, Lesley, coppers, LolaLayla, Plum, Goodinparts, others from earlier?

Well done and keep it up and please help me not to be typing the same thing on November 1st! :D

Can I tentatively join in please? :anxious:

The olympics made me wish I was fitter and when my new work uniform started feeling snug, I realised enough was enough! I am hopeless at dieting on my own - I need someone to push me, so I joined the gym with a friend. I've gone for the personal trainer option so someone to keep me on track and not let me get in a rut.

I've completed the first two weeks and already feel so much better. Initially I struggled to do 5 minutes each on the treadmill, cross trainer and rower, and already I can do 10 minutes on each, have upped the resistance/speed and incline on them all. So am feeling quite pleased with myself 8) We haven't done any weighing and measuring yet - that starts Tuesday evening when I have my first review session.

Well done Emma - you have done really well, you will get to your goal!

Cathy it definitely helps if you have someone working alongside you - my OH won't exercise and thinks the way to keep me sweet is to buy me a big bar of chocolate everyday :roll:

Stay positive Sheila - moving up a gear with the exercise should help, and you are right you do have to focus on getting fitter and healthier rather than just losing weight. You may find that with exercise you don't lose weight, but you do tone up and fat turns into muscle mass. 8)

I've let a few pounds creep back on over the summer but have taken up kayaking and feel good for it. The girls go back to school next week so should be able to get myself back into a routine and avoid the chocolate

Forgot to add well done everyone and good luck to the joiners it is hard on your own but the rewards of feeling healthier make up for it.

Just a suggestion, but anyone who eats sensibly and still struggles to lose weight should think about having a thyroid function test especially if you are female. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid a few years ago and although I haven't lost a great deal of weight since I have maintained not gained. I have recently read a book about this which I happened to spot in the library. I have avoided such things until now not wanting to become too obsessed, but this book suggested that there are many women out there with undiagnosed thyroid problems and this can have reprecussions over a wide spectrum of their health, with many being wrongly diagnosed with depression. I mention this because a few people have mentioned struggling with exercise because of tiredness etc and I felt totally wiped out for a few years before I found out what the problem was and just put it down to getting older, it is so nice to feel back to my old self again.

I am reluctant to weigh myself this week because I have just had a week away with plenty to eat :anxious:

How are you all doing? I managed to lose a stone earlier this year, that left me still wanting to lose a stone. I maintained for a while but now the pounds are creeping on again :(

I'm trying to get back to some healthy eating, this week I've been having porridge for breakfast. It gets my day off to a good start! Just need to sort out the rest of the day now!

I'm pleased to say that I've lost 2 stone since April :D .

The difference this time is that I haven't really "dieted" as such, I just cut out most naughty food/snacks. Not entirely, I still have them occasionally and will have puddings, I just try to eat a small portion. I will have to be careful that I don't slip back into bad habits though, that's usually my downfall :anxious: .

I've gone from 12 1/4 st to 10 1/4 st and feel so much better in my clothes. I even tried on a size 12 in Next last week and although they were pretty tight and just didn't fit well, it's the first time I've fitted into a size 12 in decades :P .

Still got a wobbly tum but don't quite know how to get rid of it :( .

Well done to you all :D

I've lost half a stone since joining, plus a couple of inches off waist, bust, hips etc.

Not through dieting in particular, although I have been using the My Fitness Pal app which lets you add the foods you eat through the day and counts the calories - it does mean that I stop when I've reached my limit!

The gym work is paying off, and I've started the Couch to 10K running programme. I never thought I would run! But I am enjoying it - even though I am only running for 3 minutes at a time at the moment

As a bit of an incentive my friend signed us up for a 10km run in February :anxious:

I feel so much better now I am regaining my fitness levels. The last time I took my boys swimming was just before I started going to the gym and I managed about 4 lengths and felt really tired. Took them again yesterday and did 30 lengths without thinking about it.

Just popped on here to see how folks are doing. I started so well and the fitness app was great (when I used it for all of 3 weeks). I think I then felt so bad about how much I was eating that I didn't have the nerve to come back on. However I really would love to lose some weight before Christmas so will have to try hard :?

I've recently started the 5:2 diet. I don't have a lot to lose and am not overweight BUT I was aware of how much bad snacking was creeping into my eating habits and weight was gradually creeping on. I'm rubbish at diets and usually just try and cut down on portions etc so it'll be interesting to see if this one becomes a way if life or if I give up in a week or two! I'm on week three and have lost a couple of pounds. :D

I've started the 5:2 diet today! A 500 cal day today, it hasn't been too bad at all - probably because I had a crazy day at work :D Weighing myself this morning was a bit of a shocker though  Will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks, it seems like such an easy thing to stick to :anxious:

I find that not eating anything at all in the morning makes it easier (works me at least) as otherwise if I eat first thing I want to keep on eating! Today is my low cal day and I'll be having scrambled egg, mushrooms and tinned tomatoes for my dinner. Haven't weighed myself again, unfortunately my last couple of 'feast days' really were just that and I ate way too much!! Just circumstance though, I don't normally eat that much food, diet or no diet!!

I have lost over a stone in a couple of months. Terrible stomach issues, not able to eat, lots of tests and finally turning yellow. That was interesting - looking in the mirror to see an Oompa Loompa looking back at me. But off to docs, gallstones - no fat which includes seeds or nuts. So did that and felt so much better. Op is on the 24th this month! So now I'm down to where I was before the broken ankle and I've bought a new swimsuit. The weight is staying off and I feel sooo much better. I have tried Weetabix having thought I was gluten intolerant and stopped eating that but tests came back negative hence testing Weetabix. Adverse reaction within half an hour! So perhaps just wheat - I'm fine with porridge and other gluten things. So now the quest begins for breaking the 15 stone barrier (before this all started in June I was just over 16 and a half stone). I'm back on the Nordic walking and hubby and I are still doing the long walks. I've started doing more during the week again.

But the greatest bonus is that my blood pressure is low enough to have my tablets dropped and I haven't taken any for a while because my BP is quite low enough not to have them - if I did I'd be fainting all over the place!

Now on a pre-op diet to reduce the liver which is 4 pints of milk daily, at least 1 pint of other liquid, one drink of either Bovril, Oxo or other salty stock cube, or Marmite - I've chosen Marmite. I could have sugar free jelly daily but I don't like jelly and I don't need it. I'm well full with all the milk (side effects can be interesting NOT) and you are allowed 3 sticks of chewing gum - also yuk. You can flavour the milk with vanilla essence as long as there isn't any sugar, fructose, glucose etc. And sugar free squashes. Absolutely no food.

I'm now 14st 8lb. My jeans that I had when I was thinner look like I have a pair of MC Hammer trousers! A skirt I took to Scotland for our first trip now sags at the waist and is loosely fitting on the hips - and it was a bit snug originally over the tum! Another skirt I have had to safety pin it together because I keep tripping over the hem!

So it's going great guns now. Started my swimming last week and this week swam over a mile and a half in one session. Back on track. I did want to be 14st 7 by Christmas - at this rate I'm going to have to make a new target!

Ooh and I can fit my trousers easily into my knee high boots when they were a struggle to do up at all - let alone extra fabric! Really happy now and so motivated.

I have lost a couple of pounds recently, I don't drink during the week at all and can't remember the last time I ate any chocolate. I have always eaten well but my weight has stayed stubbornly around 11 stone for years despite getting my under active thyroid diagnosed and treated. I try to walk as much as I can and use stairs instead of lifts and escalators.

I have decided to be happy with my shape, I have recently discovered that hidden under my jeans I still have a decent pair of legs which look good in black tights with dresses, so a new me may emerge soon.

I think we are so critical of ourselves. A big adjustment to be happy with yourself.

Thank you - op went really well and over Christmas I lost 2 more pounds - only to put on 4 since then! But I have an ally to help control my dustbin activities - my belly button! Where the incision was, I now have an uncomfortable aching feeling where my tummy has stretched. So obviously I don't want to do more harm to myself and I'm getting back into control!

I remember years ago an actor in an advert for Alka Seltser (I think - or it may have been Andrews) had his tummy saying to him "oi Pudding Face - stop eating, I've had enough!" and I think that's exactly what my tum is telling me!:lol::lol:
