Woolwich

Recommended Posts

Quite devastated by the horrific attack on a soldier in Woolwich yesterday. Incredibly proud of the brave ladies who shielded the body.

From my personal experience I know that dreadful events like this happening at home can be very traumatic to soldiers serving abroad, so if you know anyone please send them a little email or something to show you understand their emotions.

Its hard sometimes to listen to the anger but better out than in I think.

I was so shocked, that attack was horrific and incomprehensible. That poor poor man  I just can't imagine what his family and friends are going through right now.

As a child I grew up alongside and with family connections to one of the first muslim communities in England and I feel sad for them that some people will think those two sadistic murderers somehow represent ordinary British muslims. They no more represent ordinary British muslims than the Westboro Baptists represent me.

Me too; I used to live not that far from there and was always aware of racial tension simmering under the surface. I don't watch TV really, but will make a point of checking it online today.

Rosie and I will wear our Help for Heroes t shirts proudly this weekend in protest, and support of our men out there.

Exactly, I'm afraid that it won't help at all with racial tensions in an area which is already like a tinderbox. I am so saddened by this evil and unforgivable act.

Two Men attacked one man, and murdered him in cold blood.

There is No Defence, and no one should hide behind race, or religion.

I cannot imagine how the family of the victim must feel. It is beyond comprehension.

The Press should give the attackers No coverage whatsoever.

I thought i had dreamt it this morning - That doesn't happen in Great Britain surely?

I think they wanted to be shot and killed by the police so they became heros to their belief, Lots of people think that there will be a civil war before long it this country.

That poor brave solider and his family :(

I am truly shocked and saddened by what has happened in Woolwich. My thoughts and prayers go out to the poor soldier's family and friends.

I live only a few miles from Woolwich, my Grandfather worked at the Royal Artillery Barracks as did his father. My mum was born in Woolwich. My son has a couple of friends that are marines, do we now have to worry about their safety when they are home on leave now too.

That this has happened is just too awful for words. I am upset with the photos that have been in the paper, I hear that there is video of the horrible criminals/terrorists that did this atrocious murder. I really don't think that they should show the video, why give them the 'fame' that they want.

Truly sickening.

Very simply; too terrible for words - my heart breaks for that poor man and his family (and, as a mum of two boys, albeit very young ones, I can't even begin to think about his poor mother and how she must be feeling.)

Boris Johnson said some wise words (can't remember exactly what they were but I heard him on the radio this morning and thought he was very balanced and hit the right note.) I only hope that this horrific incident does not spark further violence and hatred (on either side.)

With regard to the media coverage; I agree that it has been too graphic. I did my supermarket shop this morning and was confronted by a wall full of newspapers showing the murderer toting a blood stained knife - had to rush to turn the volume down on the radio too over breakfast but ES still asked what 'hacked to death' meant  Yes, we need to know these things but the degree of detail could just incite further violence (some may use it as an excuse to turn against their fellow humans.)

Couldn't agree more.

I thought David Cameron's statement was pretty good as well.

I struggled to find the right way to talk to my teen boys about it this morning as they headed into exams. I'm sure there will have been copies of the Metro at school and I wanted them to have an idea what had happened together with an (almost certainly in vain) instruction not to read about it until after their exams.

My heart breaks for the poor soldiers mother.

I was busy and missed the news yesterday.

It is unbelievable, I just can not understand it. His poor family, to loose a family member in active service is awful but like this words can not describe it.

DD's boyfriend is in the army and she along with many more is now worrying.

Sad times.

Chrissie

Utterly evil attack, without any justification whatsoever. I too cannot imagine how the relatives of the poor man are coping with this. I am also disgusted at the amount of coverage and advertising for their cause these nutters have been given. I do not want to see their faces nor hear their voices in my home. I turned the radio off this morning and also the TV. Report it by all means, but playback of sound and vision is too much.

I think this is why they were only wounded, a martyrs death is what they wanted.

My Step brother is in the same barracks and was walking along the same road an hour earlier.

The local Leicester TV and radio interviewed his mum yesterday at her shop.

They have been told to keep wearing their uniforms as not to will mean the terrorist have won.

Sorry to hear that K, must have been a worry for his mum.

Totally agree about the uniform idea; I was caught up in the Harrods bombing in 1983 (can still remember the exact date and time :( ) and my, understandably, mother went ape... 'don't work in London any more, come and live back at home....'. I went back in the next day to help them clean up. You just can't let it/them get to you.

That is a scary thought for the soldiers there. The threat of something like this happening has been around for several years now. I was often worried for ES and MS but you think ' Hey, its London' and then you relax.

Best wishes and love to your step-brother and his colleagues.

This has sickened me :( I am not sure I 'like' it being called a terrorist attack, I think it is cold blooded murder by evil people. Allowing them to publicly claim it was for 'a cause' almost 'justifies' their brutal act in the eyes of the deluded. I also think they were trying to commit 'suicide by cop' and so am glad that they were taken alive. I think keeping footage off the air was as a result going to be nigh on impossible as so many people were around filming - very close up ( ), with mobile phones. I don't think it was at all necessary to enhance the red on the killer's hands in the newspapers. It was horrific enough without 'photoshop'. What a horrendous thing to cope with as a friend or family member. Just awful :(

What I would like to see is someone comment on the fact that Facebook until this week had allowed graphic footage of beheadings to be posted unchallenged. Surely allowing people free access to this sort of violence is going to have some fallout. I am not saying these killers watched them but other deluded individuals will have.
