Groovychook
I'm 48 this year, so only a couple of years off the big 50! It would be nice to mark it with something special, although when OH was 50, 3 years ago, didn't want a fuss so we didn't make a big deal of it... we're not great at grand gestures but I might dig my heels in for mine My MIL is taking her friend for his 60th to Le Manoir for his 60th in a couple of weeks- sounds lovely Sorry to hear about your chickens Willow A WIR (and chickens ) sounds like a fab present! Alis girls
Dont be too keen to book a Saga holiday. A friend of a friend in her 50's went with another female friend and they were given a cool reception. It was thought they were up to no good if you get the drift (looking for men, gold diggers, ladies with a dodgey reputation) -I think it was the wives and g/f 's who were frosty the men were ok. Frankly I wouldnt want to go on one Yet anyway - i want my man to have his own hair and teeth.

Valkyrie
Saga holidays never appealed to me - it was the knowledge that I could and he couldn't!

Its my treat to me!. OH does not fly anymore - had ear trouble so its nice to go by myself.
Chicken Shirl
I hope you all enjoy your fiftieth birthdays....It really isn't anywhere near to getting old you know. I am loving being in my seventies. Just think! I have my eighties and nineties to get through yet.

patsylabrador
I love being in my fifties. I'm fitter than I was in my forties. We still go motorbiking and travel around a lot, we revisited punk last yearat the Electric Ballroom and I have kept the red and blue in my hair because I like it- and I don't care what people think. Another advantage of being older. I still sit quietly in the evenings and knit socks- I'm in my fifties after all! Have you thought of dinner, theatre, hotel in London for your birthday? Not so far from Oxfordshire and you can park in outer suburb and tube in.
soapdragon
Hmmm..... I do love the theatre but would love to do something driving related! I only do 4 000 pa getting the boys to and from school/swimming and the supermarket run and there is a bit of a rebel in me that thinks I could do better than Jeremy Clarkson! I am a frustrated Stig!!!!!
Lesley
You could try Groupon for driving related outings - they generally have a few. My son will be 40 next month and my sister will be 50 in May.....they went to Iceland to see the Northern Lights but I'm arranging both parties, just small, family stuff as they've done the big stuff. My own big birthday (I'm already officially old!) will be right at the end of the year, I'm still pondering what to do....in the gloomy days between Christmas and New Year We also have a joint '150 years old' party to arrange in mid summer - so I'm watching to see what others have done.
