I Shall be Old.......?

Recommended Posts

My 50th birthday will be on 13th Oct....tho I have dropped hints it is clear that they have fallen on deaf ears so I must sort out my own 'biggie treat'.

I would LOVE to spend a day rally driving....4 by 4 or otherwise but really 'going for it'! I live at OX44 so does anyone else know where I could do this reasonably close to home? I am determined to treat myself!

Am aware that I will need to book quite a long way in advance hence the posting now!

Thanks in advance!

Edited to say that I wouldn't mind spending the night away.... I shall only be 50 once so OH can just take a days hol to have the boys or they can join us but still would need to be pretty close to home (Oxford!)

Yay, you're joining the ranks of over 50s

What meanies, perhaps they are pretending not to hear as they have something organised.

When The Boy turned 50, I organised a 4x4 challenge thing at Silverstone and I went along, strapped into the jump seat in the back. It was marvellous fun, the instructor was fab, and he still talks about it. I think you'd love it

OH reached that milestone last month. Much to everyone's delight as he has been 40 for an awful long time and wound everyone up. To say that all us older fogeys did get our revenge somewhat. In fact he had a card from his cousin referring to the "F" word on the front and Fifty written inside oh soooo many times - she found the perfect one for him!

Have a fabulous time - and a day to remember. :D

My 50th as well this year. The only planning I've done was book The Hand and Flowers in Marlow for lunch the Monday after my birthday back in November  A la Carte is very expensive but their set lunch is still quite reasonable.

I don't know what I want to do for my birthday other than use it as an excuse for a few parties with family and friends. I know OH and my boys won't actually think of arranging anything...

The Hand and Flowers - lucky you...Tom Kerridge seems like a chap who knows his way round a pound of butter! We have friends who have been; they are die hard 'foodies' and LOVED it!

It is 'proper lush' 8)

We've been a couple of times before, our teen boys love it. Set menu is £15 for 2 courses or £19 for 3 and we drink water :) I love the set menu as you eat things you wouldn't have necessarily have ordered and it's all lovely and seasonal. Main thing is remembering to book months and months in advance for a week day.

Nice! We drove past it the other day & I looked longingly at it

You DO have to book way in advance though, unlike the equally wonderful 'The Crooked Billet', where you can still, thankfully, just drop in (& they will swap your produce for lunch too)

Meant to add that I am 50 in a couple of years time & some people have already asked me if I have started planning a party

I have not - anyone who knows me will know that a party is the very, very last thing I will do.

I am planning to spend the day on a beach, with my Husband, somewhere hot, or at home in bed, with the duvet over my head!

You have no worries - OH 58 and myself at 52 have been attempting to open some stuff to paint on bricks to seal it. As usual it had a seal which no doubt my 12 yr old would have opened in a thrice. But no - these 2 old crocks had to resort to a vice and a lot of fruity language from my OH. I suspect we will probably starve in years to come as we wont be able to open food packets.

49 at the end of this week, so 50 very soon and looking at this thread for ideas to drop hints about.

Could always go for more chooks ...

I'm going to be asking my OH to build my long awaited walk-in chicken run as my 50th present. For the first time in 7 years I have no chickens :( Fox came in and got the lot at the w/e  Since the garden is so soggy I'll wait until easter to replace them but it is very weird not having any chickens.

I'm so sorry to hear that Willow. Your lovely Girls! What a horrible thing to happen.

to you.

Thanks, I'd got a bit complacent  we'd had the odd scare but no real problems before. I felt ever so guilty when I found the neat stack of chickens hidden behind a bush. I think with the state the garden is in waiting until easter would be wise and on the plus side I can really push for a big walk-in run as my 50th present. My OH takes great care building anything and does a great job but as a result he's not the quickest worker  so building my run has never moved up to the top of the list before.

Sorry to hear about your chooks. :(

My OH will be 50 next year, I was thinking about a meal and overnight stay at Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saison. My aunt and uncle went for their 60ths and loved it. We too are not party people.

He is 49 on Valentines' day, which is not a good day to have a birthday, can't get a decent card, restaurant booking etc. I don't have a good record with his big birthdays, I had a miscarriage the day before his 30th and then his 40th got overtaken by small children and illness. So I am hoping to pamper him a bit for his 50th.

It seems that we are largely of a similar age on here, I turn 50 in just over three years.

Chickencam - Le Manoir is just down the road from us (well, OK, 15 mins!) and is lovely! The boys go to school at Little Milton and year 4 do a cookery day there each year - good old Raymond is very supportive of us local yokels! There is a lovely nursery just down the road that has chickens too so let us know if you decide on that option as you may take a chook or two home as well

Sorry to hear about the chooks. A nice walk in run would be lovely. Fingers crossed you get something else nice though.

Will be 56 in April. I'll be putting in my order for my zimmerframe! Actually now that OH has reached 50 it means I will no longer be tempted by Saga holidays without him. Not that I ever did go! But being part of an exclusive group made me feel na na ne na naaaah you can't gooooo!
