Luvachicken
I wasn't quite sure where to post this, sorry. I haven't got head lice but do work in a school with the usual out breaks of the pesky blighters, so I was wondering if I were unlucky enough to get them, could I use the DE on my head ? Plum
Yes don't know if it works though
Cat tails
Apparently hair conditioner kills the lice as well, only not the eggs. So washing your hair a good few days with conditioner (leaving it in for a bit) should kill off most lice and any hatching eggs. Then using a lice comb to get rid of any unhatched eggs should do the trick.

The thought of lice freaks me out and I have noticed quite a few scratchy children since being back at school.
Cat tails
There was this programme on the telly a while ago. Brittish one, something like Embarrassing bodies or something. They had a kid who had a serious infestation of head lice Never seen life head lice before and never realised they were so HUGE! Brrrr.... gavclojak
I am sorry but I were ever unlucky enough to get headlice I want sarin or the like used On my head....I cannot abide any creepy crawlies.....
Grandmashazzie
Apparently they are on the increase esp among teenagers, with the practice of taking selfies! We have had many children ( foster ) with headlice and I find condition and fine comb every day the best.If you can remove the lice before they mature and start breeding you can get rid of them. The Dogmother
Technically you can as it will kill headlice, but it's not advisable to breathe it, or to use it near your eyes. I wouldn't advise it at all... sorry
Cinnamon
Get a Nitty Gritty comb. They are fantastic at getting them all out - eggs & bugs.
Chickabee
My girls used to get them on a regular basis. Just used cheap conditioner and a nit comb. You could do it every time you wash your hair
The Dogmother
I used to comb through Rosie's hair every time I washed it - doesn't take long and is really effective.
Angie
Another hair conditioner and nitty gritty comb here. My GC when in primary were the unlucky ones to always come home full of them within a week of returning to school after the holidays. ( We knew who the offenders were but the parents wouldn't do anything about it, so the whole class were just spreading them around during the term , even the Head was relieved when they moved away from the area ). We called them Grasshoppers as my GD couldn't stand the word nits . Bless her . The nitty gritty is a wonder comb and really does work, we all have one. Luvachicken
Ok, I will keep any DE for the chickens then. Head lice I think are one of the worst creatures ever, even worse than wasps, so I think I will stick to the traditional method of comb and conditioner - but hopefully I won't manage to get them in the first place
keyhole kate
A friend and a hairdresser told me a couple of drops of tea tree oil in both shampoo and conditioner kept them at bay worked for me when the girls were at school
The Dogmother
I used to use BizNiz conditioner on Rosie when I combed through her hair, that has tea tree oil in it.
Cinnamon
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2793976/watch-extreme-case-head-lice-video-certainly-make-skin-crawl.html Watch this without scratching your head! I can't work out why they didn't knock the comb to clear it after each sweep either - surely is just putting the critters back on the head
The Dogmother
I thought that too Sarah. Rosie used to pick them up at school when she was little, so I combed her hair every other evening when I washed it - it was by far the most effective way of keeping it clear of them. Luvachicken
Oh yuck That is so disgusting. I looked at just the pictures first and I wasn't sure if what I saw on the comb was a pile of hair, but having now watched the video I am really shocked. Just how many creatures were on that comb
The Dogmother
What I can't understand is how the parents could have let it get so bad.
Cat tails
They say head lice are tiny creatures the size of a sesame seed... The Channel 4 programme embarrassing bodies had an episode with a severe (not this bad, but still...) infestation of head lice and what shocked me most was the size of full grown head lice! Waaaaay bigger than a sesame seed!
Claireabella
Oh no, I wish I hadn't watched that video! I'm itching like mad. In fact, I was scratching just reading the news story. And the child's hair is short, that is horrendous. My daughter has had head lice and I'm another fan of the nitty gritty comb but I've never seen anything that bad
Chucky Mama
I defy anyone to watch this video without itching! EW!
Lavenders_Blue
That's the same video CM So now I've watched it twice and suddenly have the urge to dunk my head in a bucket of acid It really is gross. Poor child
