CatieB
Has anyone done it successfully and thought they made the right decision? I have had very long hair forever, it's about halfway down my back. Can't remember having it short short. I've had as short as shoulder length and various lengths in between but it is so thick that if it's those linbeteeen engths it's very big. I've been called the lady with big hair!!! I rarely do anything to it, there is too much to make a start. So it came to me yesterday, cut it off. Short. A choppy messy sort of style. New career new start new hair??? My hesitation is regret. What if I hate it. It's a lot of hair to cut off. So as I say anyone done it and thought thank god wish I'd done it years ago. I won't try in between or layers that just makes it bigger and more unmanageable. Thanks in advance
Ursula123
My hair, like yours was half way down my back and full of volume. I discussed going shorter with my hairdresser and she told me maybe one day - hence it took me just over a year to persuade her to cut it off, she just wanted me to be sure. Anyway two years ago I won our arguments and she cut it into a shaped bob ( longer at the front and very short at the back ). I don't regret it for a moment and not sure I would go back to longer as it is so much easier to manages and in much better condition now. My suggestion to you would be to talk it through with your hairdresser, and only do it if you are 100% sure. Good luck with whatever you decide. Groovychook
You're a brave girl for thinking of taking the plunge. I've had long hair for most of my adult life and the thought of cutting it is a scary proposition! I've gradually had a few inches chopped off over a long period of time(I've got fine hair, so it doesn't tend to go bushy), but often wonder what it would be like to have 'a style', although I'm not sure I could cope with the faff of having to fiddle with it. It's so easy to tie it back into a ponytail when it's long! I think we form such an emotional attachment to our hair and the prospect of changing it can get skewed out of all proportion... you could always grow it back if you missed the length It sounds as though you've sort of made your mind up and a new job sounds like a great opportunity to go for a new look. I think you should go for it
Cat tails
Hair grows! If you regret it, it won't be forever...
Valkyrie
Done that several times. Thing is I like it long - I can control it! It's neither curly or straight but when my hair is short it goes wavy on one side and not quite as wavy on the other. So frustrating. But at the moment it's short - but still long enough to tie in a pony tail if I want. Each time I grow it I think oh dear I'm too old for long hair. Then the moment it's chopped I wish I hadn't done it.
Charlottechicken
Agree with cat tails, it will always grow back. Have had my long straight hair chopped off a couple of times in my life, it soon grows again
CatieB
Have spoken to my hairdresser. She like the pic I showed her. She said I'd have to maintain it but frankly there wouldn't be a lot to do and would take less time than me washing and conditioning my mane. Anyway she can't fit me in before Christmas or indeed before I start uni on 5th Ian so if she gets a cancellation I am top of her list and it was meant to be. If she doesn't it maybe wasn't and I will review at my next appointment mid January. Inspiring that some have done it and Valkyrie several times - I have to agree with you that I have often thought I'm too old for long hair. Kind of hoping she gets the cancellation
Egluntyne
Try a few wigs on in the styles you fancy and see if you like the look.
chickencam
My eldest daughter is having this dilemma too, she has had long hair since she was about 8 years old, she is now 22. The pictures of her as a slightly chubby young child with short bob style and a fringe she hates. She would love to change her style and maybe have a fringe again but has no idea where to start. She has had a fringe a couple of times and it has driven her mad. I had long straight hair that just hung in limp rats tails for years, I had it permed when I was in my late teens and kept it like that through to the early 90's when I had my children, couldn't maintain it then so it grew long and straight again. When I hit 30 I wanted a change so had it cut into a bob which gradually got shorter. Looking back at photos, I didn't suit very short and I now have a just above shoulder length bob and a fringe, which I really like, I have stuck with it for about 4 years now and think I may have finally found the style that is right for my hair and the right hairdresser, who is about my age, so barring retirement hopefully she won't leave. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Valkyrie
I love having a fringe. I have to fight with a "cow lick" whether long or short but it does hide a lot of wrinkles! On the other hand because I've started swimming again it's a lot easier to manage when it's shorter - doesn't tangle in my goggles so much and dries quicker! dancing cloud
Went from past-shoulder length hair to pixie cut about five years ago and it really was the best thing I did . My hair is thin, fine and wavy, and never looked very good down but would plait or twist up quite nicely. Took about an hour and a half to dry by itself, as it went frizzy with a hairdryer. I showed my hairdresser the picture of what I wanted and she made me think about it for another three weeks before she would do it, but then it was chopped . Now it takes a full five minutes to wash it and comb it so it doesn't stick up, and it's dry almost before I've finished combing - result ! I think it makes me look younger too - but that could just be because I've not got my glasses on
Alis girls
I like a fringe - hides my face. Trying to get a Claudia winkelman - althou I envy her silky locks - mine are frizz. I spray Argan oil on by the gallon. Found some brilliant stuff in boots - and starting using straightners sparingly.
Mrs Webmuppet
If you do decide to chop your hair off....donate it to charity. LMW did this a couple of months ago. I think it was the Little Princess Trust she sent the hair to.
