patsylabrador
I'm into setting myself goals or resolutions at the beginning of a new year. One of mine this year is to be organised, I don't think being ditsy is a good idea as I get older so I've actually got myself a diary for next year and I'm going to write the things I want to achieve at the front. Three are really continuations: Health and fitness, Oh and I have booked ourselves general health checks at a clinic in January so that we know where we are with cholesterol and so on and to give ourselves a heads up and benchmark. Languages - still working extremely slowly on the French and German and have added Japanese to the mix. Family - still working on getting used to the idea that parents and siblings aren't there anymore. That's one I need to work on with my sister really. My biggy for 2016 as I mentioned is to be organised. I've got To Do lists, a diary and shopping list pads plus a wall menu planner. I'm quite excited about this one, I used them over Christmas and it was all so much easier and also more fun because my mind wasn't fretting trying to remember everything I'd decided and forgotten. Making journals of all the stuff I've been doing and hope to do next year. I've also made a start on this and it's very satisfying Growing lots of vegetables in pots on the patio. I never get round to it so I'm going to try and succeed with this one in 2016..
Cinnamon
We have a joint major goal this year............To sell up & move to France! The cottage is going on the market as soon as the mortgage is finished (early spring), & then there is nothing stopping us
patsylabrador
Wow! Big goal Cinnamon. Best wishes.
Olly
I'm a real believer in setting goals during the year, and writing them down is really important. I'm not keen on New Years Resolutions though as it never seems a good time to start them. Last year I achieved a really big goal - of leaving work and becoming self-employed. I also had a huge declutter of my home and that's ongoing, life is so much simpler with less stuff around. This year's goals will be around tackling various projects in the house and garden, and building up my work. A new bathroom is probably the biggest project. I'm going to make some of my own clothes too, now I've got more time. That's about it - other things may come up during the year. Ursula123
Snap Cinnamon, we had our house on the market in the summer but we're waiting on a planning application in the field behind us - everyone loved our house but did not want the uncertainty if houses would be built or not, we now have the decision which was sadly passed. We plan to go back on the market mid January and then move to France, trouble is I look at all the lovely houses in France and fall in love. We are looking in the Tarn region. Daphne
The a Tarn is beautiful and my most favourite bit of France We lived there in 1990/91, and having been in Portugal on and off for the past 3 years my very strong advice is to rent before you buy, and to be there during the winter to check it really is for you. Good luck to you both My NYR is to concentrate more, I can have the attention span of a gnat, it's not a good look as you get older
chickencam
My NYR is to concentrate more, I can have the attention span of a gnat, it's not a good look as you get older Sounds like me in a small child, daydreaming and dittsyness is cute, but in a middle aged woman it is a worry I have not changed though, I have always been easily distracted and tend to live very much in the moment, drives my husband crazy. I think that my goal will be to focus and do more of the things that I intend to to, but to also find more time for myself, should be interesting. I do fritter away a lot of time. Lewis
This is meant to be the hardest year in terms of big exams of vet school so I need to work hard to try and pass the year. I currently leave everything until the last minute so to have more structure and forward planning would be nice... And of course lose the weight I put on while travelling this summer
percy049
(again) I want to try and do more exercise. I also hope to finally finish my first year at uni
Valkyrie
You still look skinny to me Lewis! Yep, I'm also intending to lose more weight. Lost 2lb over this holiday so I'm quite happy so far! 2016 sees us sorting the house out and making it presentable - add that to enjoy living in nice surroundings instead of patchwork carpet in the hall which has been there ever since we had the stairs changed a couple of years ago, not to mention the underlay that's been on the landing for as long as I can remember. Doors and skirtings are to be replaced in January/February and then it will be decorating, new carpet and then working on the garden. We intend to put the house on the market in March 2017. Then smallholding here we come. I already have a book on alpaca care and I intend to go on a couple of courses with Bozedown Alpacas. The only worry is the chickens - assuming I'll be down to the 2 youngsters by then. Temporary housing which may be required for a few months - we will rent in Hereford until we find a property and I don't think the chooks will be allowed. Ain't Nobody Here
Put my brother behind me and get fit for running again.
Ursula123
Thought I would resurrect this thread and see how everyone is getting on achieving their goals. Cinnamon is on her way to France, we have sold our house and the house hunting in France has begun with viewings lined up for early September with a view to moving over early next year, due to OH filling the diary with work. So how is everyone getting on?
patsylabrador
Doing OK. Menopause issues made it difficult but I've kept up with my exercise and have progressed steadily. I'm feeling pretty good at the moment. Failed spectacularly with growing vegetables, I have one tomato and one marrow and one pepper that looks squashed. Still cracking on with languages. I've become more organised but I think that's because everyone moved out and I've got less to do to be honest. My journals are a work in progress. Generally it's all working out OK. Alis girls
Patsy feel your pain - my courgettes are rotting, potatoes had one bit one and the rest arent ready, tomatoes are green. I think its London soil. I would love to be self suficient. Hey ho.
Ain't Nobody Here
I didn't even bother with veg this year, I had such a disaster last year .
Olly
Hmm - new bathroom hasn't happened, mainly because "Ooops, word censored!"ody seems to want to quote for it. Not much else has happened around the house, I thought I'd get more decorating done by now. Good news is that my work has built up, I'm not going to get rich but I've hit my break-even target every month since January. This has reminded me that it's time I did another goal-setting exercise. I've got one courgette, if it doesn't rot before it's large enough to eat.

Seems that I did Still as ditsy as ever, have made more time for myself, but have frittered a lot of it away though and feel guilty when I am reading etc. About the things that are not getting done . Have sorted out a few things so far this year, but garden is mixed, done bare minimum at the allotment and not too bad, have got plants flowering in seed trays and pots that have never made it to the garden soil, every year I promise myself that I won't do that! We do have to accept who and what we are and work with that sometimes though.
Valkyrie
Well I finished a quilt that I started - completely! I've decorated the study and the dining room but everything is back on hold because the boy is back home. And I have no idea how long he's going to stay! So I guess I'll get cracking on bits where he isn't likely to be a nuisance. So looks like I'm going to finish the ensuite, the cloakroom and dabble in the kitchen. Even then it's going to be difficult! So I don't know if or when we'll be moving next year. Kind of lost the plot a bit - so much to do, so short time to do it. At least the garden is looking better. Alis girls
I didn't put anything either pleased to say. This year started badly with bereavement but achieved more than I thought. Decorated through lounge no minor task it's huge. I am not going to set goals always miss the net. Pleased with what I got done. Also turned out loads of old clothes. Next thing is YS's room to get rid of all the old toys and get some decent furniture.
