House moving date: moving date confirmed!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Thanks for all the well wishes. The move was relatively smooth, although our buyer's solicitors managed to mess up the payments which delayed everything... so both myself and my partner ended up sitting around in the local Tesco carpark for 3 hours waiting for news, while our removals guys went and treated themselves to a pub lunch!! lol

That was a little frustrating, but all went well in the end!

As you have probably figured out: yes, we only just got the internet back today, so I have spent most of the day trying to update addresses in various places!

I'll try and post some pictures of the garden shortly. :)

Okay, so here is the garden as it currently is - and I do mean literally, as I just took the pics about a minute ago.

It's not much to look at, but by the time I am done, it will be! I hope...

Basically, this is what will be happening -

The ugly grey-rendered garage to the left of the first picture (assuming I've posted them in the right order) is being demolished. The extension that we're building is going to be built partly in to that area anyway.

The old worn out and run down decking is being completely torn away, and beneath that lies a patio of varying quality. That whole area is going to be sorted out so that we end up with a very generous sized patio on which we will probably build a decent gazebo or something for seating. I also want to build a permanent outdoor barbecue/pizza oven!

As you can see, at the base of the patio begins the garden. The borders are all overgrown and a bit of a mess, but I will be shaping those into a kind of wavy pattern, replanting them all, and then covering the borders with decorative bark chipping so that it looks nice. We're also removing several of the larger trees that are either ugly or blocking out light. Don't worry, some smaller trees and/or large shrubs will be planted in their place.

The large 'wooden' building at the bottom is going to be turned into the 'new' garage for storage space. It's currently a little derelict, but the wood fascia is being ripped off and then will be re-rendered and painted white. There's a new roof going on, along with some internal repairs, and lastly the wooden 'barn doors' are being replaced with more modern and secure doors.

As you can see from the garden looking back at the house, there is a large conservatory currently attached to the building. From a distance it might look okay, but it is quite rundown. That is being torn down, and then we're having a large 4 - 6m extension (size depending on costs) built in its place, which as mentioned will involve knocking down the ugly garage currently in place. The extension will hopefully end up looking something like one of these:

The chickens will be living somewhere down by the old 'wood' garage that is being repaired. I think probably length ways so the end of the run points towards the doors or something. Incidentally, I am now looking at getting my chickens this year - provided Omlet don't take too long to back-order the run. We said once the time comes we're going to move it into its permanent home anway.

Chicken house at the bottom I can see??. Has potential. This time next year you will post new pics complete with chucks :D

Haha, that would have been handy, but no - it's just a regular garage and needs to remain that way when I knock down the other one.

When you have finished doing yours will you come and do mine....pleeeeease!?

Haha. In our last house I did all the interior design, and lots of the work myself too. In this house I am basically planning to throw money at the problem to make it go away! lol

I've basically picked out the colour schemes, tiles, and designs already (my Pinterest board is in meltdown ) - I know what I want, I just want someone to do it for me.

:dance::dance::dance: Oooh did enjoy! It's all going to be soooo fabulous! Meanwhile we've been here 24 years now and still we have the 33 year old carpet (what's left of it) downstairs. And still nothing on the stairs either. And underlay on the landing. Well I guess at least we have the doors on and all that remains is paint and then new carpet. When number one son moves out. I hope.:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

It'll be fabulous if we can get it all done for our budget! Between the two of us we have about £80k to play with for renovations... so I'll be very sad if that doesn't get us at least the extension with a new kitchen tucked inside of it! :?

Just caught up on this - impressive list of things to do... I sincerely hope that at least one of you works from home so that you have the time to get it all done!

So glad that you are getting rid of the decking - devil's work IMO, and attracts rats too. Use the wood in your woodburner if you have one.

Good luck :D

I'm the work from home one. But I am not so keen on project managing... I'm just doing the design bit. Then we're throwing money at the problem until it goes away!

I don't mind a little bit of decking - but not the 40ft of it that we have!

It's all being ripped out in favour of something else... we just haven't decided what the something else is yet! It may become a very large patio with a small summerhouse and a lot of planters, who knows?
