AndyRoo
Does anyone know where I might get some? I keep buying fresh flowers, but my cat seems to view them as snack food and he keeps chewing the ones I put on the table. I'm thinking of switching them out with some nice looking fakes, but the problem I tend to find is that they look really fake. Are there any decent ones I can get somewhere!? Cat tails
Why not get a nice ornamental plant? One with interesting leaves? I made my mom some crocheted roses, which look nice too. And once saw someone who had a bouquet of glass flowers, which looked amazing!
soapdragon
QVC have a range but can't remember what they are called......maybe peony something? Just caught the end of a showcase waiting for a Kipling one to start! Is there a big John Lewis near you? They usually have something similar. Edited to add...yes its Peony and they come in particular containers too so you get the whole arrangement. Look up QVC UK then homes and Peony should come up. Blackrocksrock
When I can get it I buy my cat a living lettuce and he munches on it every day. The trouble with glass ones is the cats break them!!!
AndyRoo
Thanks guys, I will go and have a look. I won't be getting any material flowers - as he will simply annex them as play toys and they'll be gone within a month! I also can't get any glass flowers - not because of the cat, but because the other half is a clumsy oaf and they'll be gone within a month! I keep talking about adopting kids... but between the two of them... *sigh*

AndyRoo
I don't have a huge number of pics of the boys, but - This fella is Barney: And this fella is Jasper: They're half brothers but in terms of temperament they could not be more different. Jasper is very friendly and attention seeking: all he wants from life is to be cuddled and petted and have people play with him. He is more like a dog than a cat: he comes to the door when we get home, follows us around, and he even understands some basic 'commands' like "Off!" and "No!"; he doesn't always choose to follow said commands, but we know he understands them. Also, if you're cuddling and holding him in your arms and you say "kisses" he nuzzles his face right in to yours. Barney on the other hand wants nothing more in life than to be fed and left alone. He's absolutely terrified of everyone and everything for reasons that we have never been able to figure out. He's not mean or aggressive or anything: he'd never bite or scratch, but if you approach him you have to do it slowly - and he has to be able to see both your hands, if he can't he will run away. If he's sure you're not going to make any attempt to pick him up, and you call him over reassuringly you'll be able to pet him and maybe even get the occasional tummy-rub, but only for a minute. For some reason he is a lot better with girls than boys; when we take him to the vet the female vet picks him up and he purrs loudly and he's fine, if it's the male vet he just wants to be let go of. Cat tails
Gorgeous boys! I have a very uncat like cat. She is rather dim and thinks she can't jump, so has never been on the kitchen counters. Also she only eats cat kibble. Could leave a whole christmas dinner on the floor and she would just stand there blinking uncomprehendingly at me. So I'm not used to cat proofing my house anymore. Blackrocksrock
Aww. They are beautiful boys. Strange how they are so different in nature too. Love my bengal boy who also thinks he is a dog to the extent of growling when someone comes to the door! Kitchen worktops - not a problem! patsylabrador
Ikea are pretty good actually. I bought a fake bamboo for the bathroom which looks good. I kill anything real. Ikea also have a big range of hard to kill real plants. I've kept some alive for days.

Love my bengal boy who also thinks he is a dog to the extent of growling when someone comes to the door! Kitchen worktops - not a problem! We don't honestly know why they are so different - they had the exact same 'upbringing' if you like - but they're like chalk and cheese. Jasper occasionally climbs up on top of the fridge for reasons that are a mystery to us. They're actually not very active cats; I think British shorthair cats are just lazy. They're quite a heavy breed too, so they always look plump in the face. I wanted to get a third, but Rich (t'other half) vetoed the idea. I also asked about a Dachshund too, but again that got vetoed. Damn him!

All I have at the mo is a tatty Mother in Law's Tongue that was doing so well until I split and repotted it. I know they like to be over crowded but this was virtually making a bid for freedom so something had to give! Oddly enough, I love my outdoor pots each year and have summer and winter ones which do really well; perhaps its the toxic atmosphere in the house that does for the indoor ones
Grandmashazzie
Am sure you have goggled it Andyroo. We are away all summer and as I usually do lots of shrub tubs I was going to get fake flowers and ' plant them ' There is lots to choose from I was all set to get geraniums, petunias etc and ordered a hydrangea wreath for front door. They are material and quite lifelike. I didn't get round to others but will next year saves hassle, watering and all that. I can't remember name but will check over emails. Alis girls
-Also admiring the lads. All male household Andy what about a girl cat - or is that a no too. My late dad used to get fake flowers for mums grave as the squirrels always ate the real ones. I cant think where they came from. Some cheaper ones do look very fake. I wanted to adopt boys too, real boys I mean, not more cats! I think it's because I grew up with 4 sisters - I felt out-numbered so I've been trying to readdress the balance ever since. I've actually had a place recommended to me by a friend - they look really good, although they're not the cheapest: http://www.bloom.uk.com
The Dogmother
Love the cats Andy. I have a cream tabby, his personality is just like your Jasper. Biscuit sits on the front wall, asking people to come and stroke him, he follows me around like one of the dogs and knows several commands too. More than one of the hounds actually

More than one of the hounds actually Ooooh, I do love a tabby cat! I really wanted to get a silver tabby when we were looking but the only breeder in the area I could find was selling theirs for £500!! Not that our cats were exactly cheap - but they were half that price! We've actually discussed getting Jasper a cat walking harness so we can take him out for a walk round the neighbourhood - we think he'd like it, and he loves meeting new people and making friends. All the staff at our old vets loved him because he was that friendly.
The Dogmother
Just found a couple of photos of Biscuit when he was small - he's no pure breed, just a kitten we got from a family in one of the villages. His mum was a British Blue though.

The Dogmother
Thanks, his eyes are more bronze coloured now and he's a big lad - not at all fat, just big boned and with lots of thick fur.

Alis girls
Gorgeous Clare. Are you sure there's no Bengal in him. Our Basil has similar markings and we think he is quarter Bengal. Poor Andy his thread has become a cat thread.
The Dogmother
no idea Ali - he's just a moggy His spots faded - most tabbies have them when young, but his swirls are more pronounced these days.
Grandmashazzie
Forgot to admire your lovely cats in my last reply. Andyroo I also wanted to say if you and your partner are considering adoption go for it.It looks as though you have a lovely home to offer. We have adopted and are fostering 4 boys and it is amazing. Win ,win situation all round. If you haven't already seen it Martin Newland had a lovely article in Daily Mail in June. It certainly resonated with me,all the reasons we foster. Also fostering to consider, there is such a nationwide shortage of carers.
