The Dogmother
Poor you Claire. Have you tried steam inhaling? Lace it with some menthol & Eucalyptus - works wonders for opening up the tubes I had pleurisy, which evolved into pneumonia... I never want to be that poorly again

Snowy
Oooh Claire, poor you. Have you got antibiotics? Chest infections are nasty - I had one many years ago when I first started nursing (hazard of the job I think) but touch wood haven't had one since You have all my sympathies dear. Plenty of fluids (hot drinks are good) and definitely try the steam room treatment (hot shower running in the bathroom) and plenty of rest. Hope you feel better soon xxx
redfrock
today I got put on a week long course of steroids I have to take 8 tablets a day in one hit I completed a 7 day course of strong antibiotics on Monday (the same day I returned to work), but it would appear I had both a bacterial and viral infection. The antibiotics sorted out the bacterial infection but I have had a really horrendous cough, which has been quite debilitating. Once I started coughing it seemed to not stop and because I am asthmatic literally left me struggling to breath. I have been off work again today but thankfully for once they have been really understanding and I received a lovely email from my boss saying that I was to take as much time as I need and not to rush back etc etc. The doctor thinks I should be well enough to return to work Monday. I know it isn't the worst thing in the world , but I have been ill for 3 weeks now and am feeling very down (and run down). I don't think it helps that I have had to attend evening meetings the last 2 nights and haven't got home until 10pm, making it 14 hour days with no time to relax. Sorry to come on here and feel sorry for myself
chelsea
Oh dear Claire, it sounds like you've had an awful time of it. Sounds to me like you went back to work a bit too early before you were properly recovered, I hope you are feeling much better soon.
theherd123
Having experienced a chest infection for the first time earlier this year i can sympathise with you. Popcorn
Oh Claire, I know exactly how you feel. I've only recently recovered from my throat and chest infection which knocked me off my feet for three weeks - no work, no play and no rest with a toddler! It was grim. Keep rested and keep drinking fluids - lemon and honey if you can. Garlic is another great healer for chest infections as it breaks down the mucus. I hope the steriods help with the breathing - they should kick in fairly quickly and hopefully you'll start to feel better when you can get some proper rest and sleep more soundly.
