Free Range - Or Are They...

Recommended Posts

All very depressing.

It's all talk, targets and ticking boxes to get a piece of paper to con the public into thinking they are buying a better product.

I expect the RSPCA lady had to be careful what she said in these days of litigation.

When will common sense come back?

Oh goodness, that's shocking. Why did they get issued the certificate if they didn't meet the standards? It makes a mockery of the whole system.

I am dubious of so many of these awards a company can be given - like Fair Trade was made a mockery of for me when Nestle managed to win a fair trade mark for one of it's brands...one of the least ethical companies in the world!

Oh god that is just awful, who or what can you trust? We can't all keep enough animals to feed ourselves. What do we do?

If they have been certified by the RSPC, god knows what condition some of the non-certified ones are alike. I am truly disgusted.

I was preparing dinner and not really paying attention to the news until that report came on. Had to hold back tears whilst watching it  and now I feel  . What's the point of these schemes if they are not implemented properly

Those poor chickens

Thank goodness we at least know where our eggs come from 8)

Hopefully more people will have seen this and make the descion to keep their own hens.

Typical RSPCA though-they are the ones to blame here for not inspecting them correctly. Not intrested unless they're either fleecing the public for more money or Rolf Harris is around with a film crew. Never could or ever will stomach them.

Please bear this in mind when you're looking for hens to take in . as these "!free range hens" dont get any rescue package at the end of their term....

I have to say, around where I live most of the free range are just that;

but I still take in ex free range, as well as ex batts

The problem with this is that it gives some people reason to say whats the point in buying free range eggs or meat because you cant be sure it is.

My mum says that all the time  and I always say of course it is, they cant say its free range if its not. In this case I am proved wrong.

Very sad.

What I don't get is why the RSPCA issued the certificate when they knew the conditions were that bad? Surely they should have with held the certificate and this would have encouraged the farm to get them selves sorted out..then they could apply again....and fined them HUGE amounts of money too!!!

Those poor hens
