Anyone working today?

Recommended Posts

DH couldn't get to work because the trains were cancelled, so he is trying to do bits and pieces from home.

I work from home mostly, but haven't done much today.

DD2 and DD3 are home because their bus didn't come, but then the school was closed, so I'm pleased. The school is closed tomorrow as well

DS is at school but being sent home at 2pm.

My Sainsbury's shopping will not be delivered because their vans have either broken down or got stuck in the snow!

It would seem most people are at home!

I had already thought of those people attending funerals today. It's absolutely awful for them. :(

I have just read on the BBC site that all Surrey schools are closed except one - my son's school!

 I was at work - now finished for the day :P . One local school has shut at lunch time, and another closing early to let staff get home before the rush. Where I was - lots of hopeful teens texting their Mums to come and get them  .

Just popping out with the dog before the children mess up all the new snow 8)

I am at work (lunch break) but have made a list of my team and where they live and how they get in so I can start to send them home early as the snow is really coming down here in Luton.

I inevitably will be the last to leave but am not staying one second past five o'clock!

You sound like an excellent boss, Redwing - I wish I worked for you!

I'm here till 5, as usual - no chance of being allowed to leave early

Well this morning it seemed like My school and James' school were the only 2 in Essex not to annouce they were closed. Facebook messages from the office staff confirmed my school was open. I decided to take James in and go late as his school often closes very late so it would be better than me getting to school and then having to leave if James' school was closed (Mum couldn't have him all day). Emailed the school to tell them I would be late as the phone lines were jammed, got an email back from my boss saying he was stuck on the A12 (together with pictures of the jam on Twibble!)

Off we went, skidded onto the main road as I tried to get out of the service road outside my house - lucky "Ooops, word censored!"ody was coming! Drove down to the village to find NOT a single car in the car park at James' school (BBC Essex website still doesn't say this school is closed  ). Told an excited James he would have to come in with me, a mile further down the road and the radio announcement went out that my school had closed - they left it literally until the 11th hour 10 MINUTES before the bell was due to ring they finally closed the school - I reckon they had about 800 kids and a dozen staff! I know of several staff who had called the school and said "no way" Many people live in outlying villages and were not willing to take the risk of driving. Given that the day has progressed to worse and worse weather it's unbelievable that the school didn't close at 7am LIKE all of the neighboring secondary schools! Goodness knows what they will do tomorrow.

As we drove towards the roundabout to turn around we saw his g/f;s dad just leaving with the kids to take them to James' school so we stopped and told them not to bother.

Have had a lovely snow day, caught up on some stuf, had all manner of fun and missed some trying classes too!

DS and DD's school was the same - it was announced on the radio at 8.15, 10 mins before registration bell. DS had already left at 7.40 to walk and I was on way to school in the car with DD  DS still had to go in as Yrs 11, 12 and 13 had to go in.

We all got a text from the Parent Info line at 10.40am  to say school closed to all but yrs 11, 12 and 13.......just a shame DS had phoned 10 mins earlier to say they decided to close school to the remaining years and he was on his way home  So glad they give out accurate and up to date info.

Just had another text to advise us to listen to local radio in the morning for an update.......let's hope it's a bit earlier so we can have a lie in :D

Physically present and our snow has now turned to sleety rain  Sent home my very distant staff at lunchtime when it was still snowing, and the rest of us are all demotivated by the cold and dark and just kicking around waiting to go home.

I let the chooks out to play in the garden when I left this morning and they complained long and loud about the cold white stuff  Don't suppose they're liking the cold wet stuff any better.

A day at home for me. Thankfully the decision to shut school was taken early and I had a phonecall from my boss telling me to stay at home and go back to bed!! Thank goodness. The girls have refused to leave the eglu all day - they have emerged for porrige but stomped back into the eglu sharpish - poor things do not like snow and are disappointed it is not edible!

I have spent the day staying warm, keeping my fired lit and this afternoon baking a ginger cake to send to my sister in Afghanistan and a date and walnut cake for here.

My daughter had to take her younger son to the doc just before school so I agreed to drive the older boy in to school. By the time she got here and I'd got him to school it was nearly 10. She phoned just after 11 to say that his school was closing at 12 and could I collect him? So he had a few minutes over 2 hours in school

Howsomever... we went to Pizza Hut at Reading Gate for lunch then bargain hunting at the nearby BHS Home store

and no, I didn't go to work but I'm retired anyway. Neither did I make it to the bookshop :(

oooooohhhh  Snow is moving North!!!!

No school for my kids tomorrow. We had an e-mail from OS school this afternoon.....how organised :o . YD's school has yet to communicate........their website is rubbish and the telephone line is always engaged. The school used to have a cascade system, where each mum or dad had to phone just two people. Within minutes the word was out

They should be a lot more decisive with school closures - Surrey already announced all schools will be closed tomorrow but our school website says "we hope to be open as normal" This morning was a stuff up - EVERY primary was closed, EVERY secondary was closed and somehow they still thought opening was a good idea.

Staff, parents EVERYONE appreciates an early decision - it's dangerous being on the roads and it's the staff who have to do it. Its a nightmare teaching kids when the weather is like this too - imagine what teenagers are like! If the primaries are closing the parents already have the maximum inconvenience. Yes there will be complaintes but I bet there were more about the kids getting there and being sent home than they would have got if they announced closure at 7am. This school seems to be proud that "we don't close" but they did and caused a LOT of trouble with it.

On the bright side, James and I have had a lovely day but I suspect tomorrow will be hard - I think I'll end up in school but not sure he will - despite his being a small school and the staff being local - his head will not shy away from making the decision!

I slithered my way in to work today with my heart beating very very fast the whole way. I fully expected to have a very quiet day (I work in a Magistrates' Court) but a fair proportion of people turned up (as usual it was the ones who lived quite close who called off!)

We finished at an ok time and the journey home was less hair raising.

Meanwhile, OH worked from home and kids' school was closed. One chook stayed in the Eglu run all day but the other one braved the elements a little!
