Bantambabe
Hi everyone, I had to have a filling at the dentist this afternoon It took two sets of injections of one anaesthetic and then a different anaesthetic injected into the roof of my mouth for him to be able to drill. I'm feeling very traumatised I escaped as quickly as I could (having paid £97.50 for the priviledge) and sat in the car and sobbed Picked OS up from school and he because I look like I had a stroke and feel like I've got a rolled up beach towel for a tongue. Think he then felt because I Had to drop him home then fetch the other two from after-school club and take to their swimming lesson (like I really needed that this evening!). YS took one look at me and (he's 9 and a sensitive soul). OH had thankfully got the dinner ready when we got back, so they are eating that now and I've had some hot (well warm) chocolate and nurofen. Just want to cry. Sorry for blubbing on you all

Blackrocksrock
That is my only hate in this world - dentists - I would not mind most other things - well maybe some but I really really freak at the dentists and on my card I am sure is Coward! Keep warm and cuddle up with a hottie bottle and lots of warm drinks and let the others do the work

Bantambabe
Thank you all for your kind thoughts - omlet folk really are wonderful. I'm on my 3rd mug of warm milk, second type of painkiller and waiting for OS to go to bed at 9 so I can follow suit. Need to sleep now. Gamebird
Lots of sympathy coming your way. I hate the dentist. I always feel as though I'm going to choke when you have to keep your mouth open for so long with your head tilted back. I think most of my teeth were filled as a child so there's nothing left to do. bluekarin
I spent a lot of years not going to the dentist because of one evil woman I finally went again because I want my kids teeth looked after and after LOTS of work, I realised it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and am now okay. But, our lovely dentist has left and we have another new one (we've had 4 since we started going to this practise) So I need to make an appointment, but am nervous again as I don't knwo what this one will be like. And I know I need some more work doing. I do sympathise with you though as what I still don't like about going is the injections, especially ones for your front teeth as they feel like they are going up your nose or for right at the back and they have to do two injections. I once had the anasthetic put into the wrong area and my throat started to go numb and not my jaw It was a bit strange when I started to find it difficult to swallow and worrying. Hope you feel better soon!
Mrs Webmuppet
I'm not a big fan of dentists either. I have finally found a surgery I don't mind going to. It costs me a fortune but I don't mind because they don't scare me and take the time to reassure me that they won't hurt me etc. I had to have some pretty horrid work done 13 months ago ( involving 3 lots of 11/2 hours in the chair followed by several shorter trips). They even took the time to explain what to expect before, during and after the treatment. Now anything I have done is a breeze after that lot! I always take some Ibuprofen before any dental work as it takes the edge off the discomfort and some more painkillers just before the numbness wears off and it's no where near as bad ( top tip from the dentist when briefing me about the extensive dental work they were embarking on)

jlo
Virtual hugs from me too. I cannot stand going to the dentist which is really embarrassing as he is a friend of ours. I started to see him just after ES was born and he asked me if I had had chocolate cravings during my pregnancy as my teeth were so bad. I had to admit that I have had chcolate cravings for most of my life!
MedusA
I hope you are feeling a lot better this morning. *hugs* I never used to hate dentists, but since mine broke the post for my (rather expensive) crown, and I now have a gap, I distrust her immensely. Lesley
Poor you Debs! - I hope you are feeling better this morning? My notes have "Requires horse doses" written across the top! - I've always had problems with anaesthetic not taking and we had a locum dentist who actually took the time to listen to me............ he wrote on my notes! Seagazer
You have my full sympathy and I hope you are feeling better this morning. I have to try to almost put myself in a meditative state as I get really panicky when I'm having anything done. I think it stems from having the moulds done for my braces when I was younger. It felt like I had them in for hours and I could hardly breathe.
Bantambabe
Thanks again for all your kind thoughts everyone. I've managed to go to work today altho I've sneaked home early as my face is really aching again now - feels very bruised. Have to say that I won't be going back in a hurry - even if the rest of them fall out! I can feel a panic attack coming on just at the thought of it. You would have thought that they would have come up with a high tech alternative to the drill really - a laser perhaps? It's that sound
Seagazer
Oh I'm glad your feeling a bit better. Its the feel of the drill in my head that gets me, it actually makes me feel really sick. I changed to a private dentist and he thought it would be a good job to take all my mercury fillings out and replace them with white. I really thought I was going to pass out because it stressed me out so much. Give me labour anyday.

Valkyrie
I quite enjoy going to the dentist - the thing I don't like is the bill afterwards. I missed years after ill treatment by our dentist. It always took more injections than one and he still tried to inject my tongue, my teeth and scratched the needle along my gums before he hit the right spot. I always had huge mouth ulcers afterwards too, so I sympathise with everyone who has suffered. Eight years later and suffering with toothache, I went to a lovely Japanese dentist. I had root canal treatment with no injection. Not had any injections since. I loved him saying "Ah, Mrs Koojie, you are velly blave rady". I now have a very nice lady denist - we always have a laugh. Trusting your dentist is part of the trick. I do hope you feel better soon. Remember feeling like poo is a lot better than looking like it! chelsea
you blub away all you like, you are very brave. Sounds really painful. I hate dentists and currently putting off going for a filling, I cant believe you had to endure all that just for a filling Hope you are feeling better this evening.
