How many of us have upgraded from an Eglu to a Cube?

Recommended Posts

I started off with a (red eglu) in 2007.

Then got a (cube purple) in 2008 & sold the (red eglu)

Then bought another (green eglu) in 2009!

Cubes had only just come out when I started chicken keeping, but I hankered after one all the same, but thought I'd better start off small

I won't be unless I can win the lottery and move house :( I saw one and feel it's just too big for my garden. We are hoping to build a walk in run this year which will be about 3m x 3.5m and I'll get 2 more girls in the eglu. I do love the eglu though :D and if another comes up at the right price... I'd have it like a shot! :D

Started with a (purple eglu) which was a housewarming present ... then I adopted three chickens and bought their (green eglu) for them to live in.

Then last year I sold the (purple eglu) to Louisewomble and the (green eglu) to a non-forum friend, and bought the (cube purple):D

I like the Cube, it's easier to clean, it holds more chickens - but it's not as funky and exciting to look at as the Eglu. I'm planning a WIR eventually, and I did consider getting rid of the Cube and going back to a (purple eglu) now I'm down to just four chickens.

That would be really silly, of course - the obvious solution is to get some more chickens to make it worthwhile having the Cube!

Olly, do you have any extensions on your cube?

I bought a (red eglu) in 2004, after the 'cockeral of fate' led to the 'chickens of unable to resist'. I have just upgraded to a (cube purple) - plan was to sell the (red eglu) to fund the (cube purple), but now I can't face getting rid of the (red eglu). It's just too stylish - like a classic car. No good for a large family, but a thing of beauty on its own :P

WIR to follow, hopefully this autumn.

Yes, I have one extension. Omlet say the Cube and standard run is ok for up to six chickens, but mine don't get a lot of free-ranging time so I prefer them to have more space. A WIR will add about another square metre or so of space, when I get round to it.

I haven't and I don't think I will. I am not tempted by the cube. I love the look of the eglu and if I get more chooks I will just buy another. I think that this is more versitile, it means I can either have 2 eglus in my WIR or if I had little ones I could have a eglu set up separately as a 'nursery' then move it into the WIR when babies are big enough.

I sort of upgraded...I originally wanted a cube, but they were not available in the US so I got an (orange eglu) instead. As soon as the cube became available in the US I placed my order with the thoughts I would keep the eglu as a nursery, hospital, or for isolation. Unfortunatly my well thought out plan changed when I moved house (much smaller garden) and had to sell my original eglu.

I was back to front too.

We got our (cube green) in October 2007.

Then we got our (purple eglu) in November 2007.

Then we got (cube green) in January 2008.

Then a (green eglu) in December 2008.

And finally a (green eglu) in December 2008.

Now I've sold one of the (green eglu) to fund a (cube purple) just as my Dad has given me the money for the (cube purple) anyway.

Me Too I started with a (blue eglu) then purchased another (blue eglu) because we did not have the cube available to us. Then Omlet started shipping the cubes to the USA and I ordered a (cube green) it has just arrived so I guess I have the first Omlet Village in the USA, wonderful products I wouldn't have chickens without them.

Me too, I got (green eglu) in May 2008 then the chooks in June, then I bought the (blue eglu) in about October/November 2008 ready for the batties who arrived in January. I thought my Omlet family complete....then I agreed to adopt the Orpies with their (cube lilac) in early January this year...that went aside as the previous owners decided to "try again" with keeping them....so ordered a (cube orange) with the intention of the (white chicken)(Bluebelle) & GNR moving into the bigger house with GNRGNRGNRGNR & selling one of the eglus. (cube orange) Arrived....and the Orpies came to us anyway with (cube lilac) .

In Feb (green eglu) went out on loan with a view to being sold to a friend to house his impulse buy bantums. He still hasn't bought it, nor do I have it back...they are now renting it for a while! The (cube orange) is home to the Batties and the original 3 GNR(white chicken) have moved in with the Orpies...and the little Smurf (blue eglu) is ready & waiting to be a sinbin, hospital wing...or new home, hee hee  !!!!!
