House Hunting/split due to family Tragedy

Recommended Posts

I went to see Tom today. He has lost loads of weight and is quite skeletal because he has only been on saline and glucose for the last couple of weeks. He had been given a shave and a wash though so was nice and clean (he wasn't shaved at all or washed often whilst in spain). The change in him since the last time I saw him was amazing. He now moves his head a little and his eyes appear to look around slowly rather than rolling back in his head. I know it doesn't sound much but a big change for me to see.

Unfortunately we spoke to the Dr and we were told the consultant had signed a Do Not Resucitate for Tom. We were told it is a medical decision and not something that the family have any say in. Obviously we find this hard to comprehend. It's because he has such a poor prognosis. Fortunately he has only been resucitated once so we're hoping the occassion doesn't arise again. Also because of his poor prognosis they will not send him to the specialist neurological hospital for rehab but he will stay in the stroke ward for the foreseable future. Having Tom near home is good but knowing it is because they think he is beyond hope is not what we wanted to hear. They sent him for a CT scan today so hopefully that will make them change their minds. We have an appointment with the consultant on Wednesday so will be able to challenge him on the DNR then.

Sorry it's not a happy update, I wish it was.

I'm so sorry to hear that - it's very hard news to hear, and harder still to accept. I'm glad you have him back here, where you can visit him and speak to the doctors and nurses more easily. Hope that he continues to improve.

Sending you and the rest of the family all my love, his poor boys. I hope the scan next week brings better news, at least you are all near him which must be a comfort.

I wish there was something I could say or do,

lots of love my dear, it's all I can think of to say

So glad to hear that Tom's back home where he belongs and that you have seen a change for the better in him, I hope that the scan gives a more positive outlook than that previously given by the doctors.

Much love and lots of hugs to you and your family.

Took Tom's boys in to see him tonight (they go in every night). They are so good with him although they are obviously feeling the stress. The youngest (12 years old) is not going to school because he won't leave his mum. Tom was very sleepy but we were told he still has bleeding on the brain which will make him more tired. This is the first we've heard of the bleeding so not sure how worried we should be. Apparently his remaining aneurysm is not causing much pressure which is good.

We have the meeting with the consultant tomorrow so it will be an opportunity to ask lots of questions and get some answers.

Unfortunately our luck hasn't held with the house either as we have had to pull out of the purchase. Looking online we found out that a planning application had been made last week for a piece of land about 1 1/2 miles away to be used as a travellers site. On the basis that this would devalue the house we felt we had no choice but to pull out. The OH is carrying on his search.

Oh gosh - well I hope you get some answers tomorrow anyway, at least it will be a chance to ask the questions you want to know.

Sorry to hear about the house but in my experience that usually means that you'll find something even better, it just takes a little while longer.

Positive thoughts for you today, it needs to be a very upbeat day my Goddaughter has mountains to climb today too.

Its a good job you found out about the planning application now and not further along the line so this house wasn't meant to be as the house is still waiting for you.
