Couperman Posted June 4, 2009 Share Posted June 4, 2009 The Police around our way have a new toy......er I mean crime fighting weapon. It can often be heard hovering overhead, well the last four nights in particular and of course you notice it more on hot nights with the bedroom windows open. Anyway last night at approximately 4.06am it virtually landed on our roof! It was very low, very loud and very interested in something in our back garden and those surrounding us. After a bit of curtain twitch type noseying I noticed a bobby appear over the shed a couple of doors down. Knowing that our anti-chicken fences are not the easiest to climb being all flimsy (they are only chicken wire, even the cats can't scale them) I nipped down to open the gate to let the police in. As soon as I stepped into the garden I was in the full glare of the Police searchlight, three red laser dots on my chest, sniper standing by, bloodhounds could be heard in the near distance..... Ok............ they shone their pretty torch down at me Any how I let the Ociffer in and gave him a quick tour of potential fugitive hidey holes. He seemed quite shocked when he looked into the run and saw four sets of beady eyes peering back at him I don't know if they caught the fugitive, but they sure woke up the whole area I felt quite sorry for the bobby on the ground having to do all the running around and searching whilst his mates sat on high in Airwolf. I dread to think how much it costs to run the heckelopter but they should make the crims pay it back at a £1/hour s"Ooops, word censored!"ping chewing gum off the high street. Cinnamon Posted June 4, 2009 Share Posted June 4, 2009 We have had it twice,& we are very rural here,so it was very exciting to have coppers running around the garden & looking in our sheds & cars Funny how they always come in the summer when the windows are open The air ambulance landed right outside my house last week too when a boy playing in the park over the road was run over by the ride on mower cutting the grass That too was amazingly loud & quite spectacular to watch. I once watched the air ambulance land in Grosvenor Gardens in Victoria (London) - a very tight fit! I take my hat off to those pilots. Seagazer Posted June 4, 2009 Share Posted June 4, 2009 We've had the air ambulance land in the school playing fields at the back of the houses at the back of my garden (if that makes any sense!) twice now for some poor unfortunates that have had car accidents. The last time we were having a bbq. Once my YS said to me that he could see a space rocket from his bedroom window. He's always had a good imagination but he insisted he was correct - I went and looked and yes it was that satellite space rocket thing that was touring the schools. Once she was in the garden in the middle of the night in her pj's and dressing gown trying to get the cat in - and was beamed on - they ignored her, probably could see the smirking cat too and decided she wasn't who they were after. Kev, I can just imagine the bobby speaking on the radio after seeing the girls - "It's life Jim, but not as we know it". We use to get very frustrated because we would get them circling around above us for hours and somtimes several nights in a row. There was one really bad occation where it had got t o4 in the morning and they had been circling since about 11 and this was i think the 6th night in a row and the entire road cracked at the same time and about 30 people piled out onto the road in various states of undress including one person in just a douve and screamed abuse at the helicopter. Thankfully they saw the advantage of leaving us alone for about a week after that. I know they were only trying to do there job but 6 nights with no sleep whatsoever because they were circling above just drove us all to cracking point. I've slept at Silverstone in a tent during the 24 hour race (not as bad as Tornados, etc, I know). What woke me up was when the safety car came out and it all went quiet.
