Following a conversation with a friend in work when I was commenting on needing to put my tableclothes in the wash, it was met with shock that we eat at the table, with a tablecloth on.

I think that dinner time is a really special family time where you can talk about your about your day. So we ALWAYS eat at a laid table, tablecloths, napkins, placemats etc.

So I was wondering, am I strange or is this colleague strange. I appreciate that you might not do the same everyday, so if you vote with the nearest option.

Happy voting!

We always sit at the table, we eat as a family when hubby gets home from work. We used to use tablecloths and mats, but then Danny started pulling the cloth off as a baby so we stopped using it. At Christmas we make the effort and use a cloth and mats and one year when we had everyone here, I dug out my proper linen napkins and made silver bows to tie around them. The napkins hadn't been used before or since, we had them as a wedding present.

I'm a bit hopeless at eating on my lap on the sofa - I get in a mess.

A bit of both - sometimes at the table and sometimes (quite often these days) we're so late finishing up with the feeding of animals etc. that we just eat in front of the TV.

There's only the two of us but whenever we have any family over then we always sit at the table.

Both, but a lot of the time its in front of the telly,I am afraid.

No actually, I am not going to apologise - that is what we like & want to do so *rapsberries*

We eat a lot of 'bowl' food, in lovely big white pasta bowls, so its simple & comfy to eat there.

We hardly ever use knives any more either.

Always at the table now. Occasionally we had the odd meal in front of the TV but now we have new sofas, food is banned from the sitting room  . ES is a stickler for table manners anyway and gets cross if we don't eat at the table, properly set with cloth, cutlery, mats etc. YS just wants to veg in front of Top Gear on Dave so is miffed that we have to eat at the table  . I was brought up to eat at the table and could set out cutlery and glasses for dinner parties at a young age as my parents used to entertain so I much prefer to eat at the table anyway. It makes a meal more special if you make an effort, even if it's something mundane.

We eat at the table every night even though there is only the two of us - i always did when growing up as well.

Tonight however it was on my lap infront of the tv as OH is working away and i think there is nothing worse than being sat at the dining table eating on your own!!!

We eat at the table as a family. We have a plastic tablecloth on the wooden table all the time so just have plates no mats. I lay the table most nights but sometimes i just get all the plates etc out and leave them so everyone can get their own. Never have napkins though.

We always serve our food on the table so everyone helps themselves. My friends always thought this was very wierd as their parents used to serve it out on the side.

We never eat in front of the tv, my sister is prone to spilling things so thats the main reason. Plus there is never anything on tv when we are eating as we usually eat 5:30/6ish. Also as there is 6 of us we wouldn't all like the same tv programme and we like to all eat together.

Always at the table on a Sunday and when we have visitors, but usually during the week our meals are in the lounge on our laps. Recently my sewing machine and stuff has taken over the dining table so its a bit of a faf to have to clear it all away for dinner so week nights we don't bother, however when my children were little we always had all meals at the table - so they were brought up proper so to speak

I would like to eat at the dining room table, but the reality is the kids eat dinner before I finish work, so hubby and I tend to eat in the living room when we finally get to sit down around 9pm. I miss the opportunity of having family time around the table :(

In front of the TV for us too :D

Our house is tiny. We don't have a dining room and the kitchen is too small for a table and chairs.

We did get one of those tables which folds and has the chairs underneath it but it was aggro getting it out every night and when I decided to get little Nanna (Our tortoise) we had to sacrifice the table so that we could put her tortoise table on that so I had a choice-eat up the table or pet tortoise on the table

We eat either at the table or at the large breakfast bar in the kitchen, laid with cultery and placemats & napkins/candles on more 'specialish' occasions, never in front of the television - just depends how many of us are eating together as the beakfast bar only holds 4.

:D

We used to eat at the table in the kitchen as a family. Big family get togethers are around the dining table (round one Camelot style). But just lately it is in front of the TV. Family meals got so stressful with DS. He would make things just unbearable because he didn't want to be with us - and I felt it important to at least try to chat with him. But that didn't work, he caused so many arguments - and those that began with him usually made everyone else argue with each other too, and so now he has his food in his room. It certainly seems much more pleasant, gradually we drifted to the lounge for dinner. By the time I get round to dinner it's pretty late anyway and all OH wants to do is chill - he is always up early and a workaholic, so things have got a bit lax here. I used to enjoy the family get togethers and chat at the table though. :(

Er, the kitchen table is full of mealworm tubs, trug, DS's tray that he remembered to bring down, a fruit bowl with fruit that only the chickens eat (well the little ones - they eat anything), a dried flower arrangement (that is pretty because I chose it - it has fabric poppies that go with the tiles - sadly there are no live harvest mice to match my tiles), CD's and an assortment of papers that I have to go through because mumsie piled them up there. Goodness knows what else. The dining table has OH's work stuff and it is covered with bits of carpet fluff.
