Looney
Not sure if this has been done before but I was just thinking about my first car..........well, I sort of had two first cars both were about the same age as me when I got them (about 17 or 18 years old I think) 1) A 850cc mini that was my Mum's that me and my brother learnt to drive in. It was an S reg (old S!) and my Dad had acquired it from someone at his work that was going to s"Ooops, word censored!" it. It was a complete rust bucket but I loved it! 2) The first car that was registered in my name came straight after the mini and was a S reg (again, an old S) RELIANT KITTEN!!! It had 4 wheels, was a sort of matt poo brown colour and once I got used to being ridiculed for driving it - I thought it was fab! My Dad had a Reliant Scimitar at the time which was a far "cooler" car but not quite so quirky and unusual! Your turn!
Guest
My first car was an ancient Ford Orion, Navy blue, leaky boot, and a hole in the floor of the passeger side. I looked like a boy racer driving around, till you realised that I was only doing about 20 mph! Someone bumped into me in a carpark, and the insurance decided that it would be cheaper to write it off than to replace the bumper (that's how much of a heap it was!), but then told me that if I wanted to get it fixed, then MOT it, they would be happy to still insure me. Dad fixed the bumper for pennies, the insurance company wrote it off for £500, I MOT'd it, then took it to one of those car salesrooms that give you a minimum trade in of £1000 and got a new car..... feemcg
Mine was a Toyota Starlet - which my dad bought me when he realised I was getting the bus late at night to and from hospitals in some dodgy areas of Glasgow!
Nicola H
Mine was a lovely G registered dark blue Morris Minor, I loved that little car and got my only speeding ticket driving it...........The police man said I was doing 48 MPH but I protested I was only in second gear and it only does 50 MPH at full pelt, he gave me a dirty look and said take the ticket or escourt me to the station, I took the ticket and drove off slowly......... Eventually it rusted away the chasis broke and came through the passenger side floor not a pretty site..........
Guest
My first car was a little green mini with a gold roof. I can't remember its registration - I have a feeling it was a 'D' reg. It was 850cc and had a foot button for operating the full beam. So I had to remember to lower my lights before every junction, or my feet would be otherwise occupied! I bought it from my (younger) brother for £100.
SarahJo
Learnt to drive in a Fiat Panda, then was lucky enough to drive my Dads company cars too . My 1st car was a Rover 214i, silver. Then I had various other company cars .. the best one being a 2.0 i Sport Vauxhall Astra with A/C. The 1st car I ever OWNED properly is the one on the drive now ... my little 1.0 Polo, in Silver and an X-reg. Fab little car and very reliable, and nippy if you want her to be. . Linda
This is a thread which really gives away a person's age! My first car was a Triumph Toledo - J-reg (1971 I think!), in a lovely rich maroon colour. I loved my Toledo. I passed my test in it and we went everywhere together! One winter it sat unused for two weeks (I had a hand injury) and on the day I wanted to start it, I had to clear a thick layer of snow from it, pulled the choke (remember those? ) right out, and it started first time! She was a real trooper! Until I took her for her last MOT when the tester said, 'This car is not fit to be driven 100 yards.' Oh dear. Mrs Frugal
I passed my driving test when I was 30 in a burgundy D reg Ford Fiesta called "Pookie" . I loved that little car and was so sad to let it go but replaced it with a fab little white Corsa called "Meg the Egg" and now have a silver Ka called "Myrtle" which is nowhere near as fab as little Meggy. bellekatz
Mine was an M reg white ford escort (Mark 1 I think!) I called her Eloise and she got me from Manchester to Uni at Cardiff in my final year many times! I loved that car - and it was the only one that ever had a name!!! ( And yes - she had a choke as well!!)

I was having lessons and was planning to pass my test before my daughter was born. Then she came 3 months early so its sat there declared SORN and looking lonely
Christian
Mine was a black 'w' (old) reg 1000cc mini called Winston . He looked like a miniature london cab! With a beautiful walnut dashboard and glove box that could just fit a glasses case in! Had to be sold as so rusty, but loved it! Have had 2 other minis - Jaffa my gorgeous orange mini, which i drove for 3 years and never had a problem, and Marcy a red/white mini cooper which was always going wrong and cost me a fortune! I now drive Mortimer a blue mini cooper, not the same as the 'old' design, but really fun to drive!
Louise
I have driven lots of cars over the years but the first one that was actually MINE is the one I have now H Reg (1980) Mazda MX5 in red called Herbie He is on his last legs now with only one window working a wonky wing mirror where some little sh*t kicked it off and overheats at the drop of a hat I have to get a new car soon and I am going to be in floods of tears when Herbie has to go
Beauty-Box
My first car was an A reg Renault 11 in silver called Penny. It was a heap, but I loved it!

Cinnamon
I adored my first car........................ He was a gumdrop orange old Beetle, which smelt of fish when it rained & had holes in the floor which you could see the road through. I drove everywhere in it, & with it being such a noticeable car, everyone knew it was me He was great,as he was so old we didn't have to pay any road tax & insurance was pocket money. He was 100% reliable, but not the most comfortable or practical car, really. We took him to Beetl rallies & did a few of those drives to Brighton with 20 or so other Beetle owners About 8 years ago, when he was rusting gently away behind the garage,we decided to do a full restro on him. Brian (The Hubby) did all the work which took a good year or so. The Bug came out looking wonderful,& had a lovely big fold back sun roof too. We had to sell him a few years ago due to financies, & he went to a nice young chap as his first car I still miss him now........he was a drive of great character
chelsea
I love beetles Sarah, what a fab 1st car! My 1st car was an "E" reg suzuki soft-top jeep. It was a brill car....it was a lovely aqua colour with a white removable roof. Great in the summer. not so great in the winter! Had some fun times in it. I cried when I sold it. I think its still around, a couple of years ago hubby saw it advertised in the autotrader £500 ...he was tempted to buy it back for me - as he knew how attached I was to it. Lesley
Certainly does show your age doesn't it - answering this question? My first car was a Ford Popular 'van with windows'. - 3 forward gears and I had to learn how to 'double de-clutch' for every gear change I collected it from the factory where my Dad was working - it was ancient even then, 20 years old and cost £25 . All his workmates were watching as I got in and a blizzard started and I had to sort out the gears I was 17 and I wasn't going to let them intimidate me - I pulled onto the main road and drove off - phew! Claret thinks her Berlingo is green - it's got nothing on the hand painted pea green of my first car!
gooner.girl
This is a thread which really gives away a person's age! Certainly does show your age doesn't it - answering this question? Yes it does Ladies as i STILL HAVE my first Car!!! - Vera the Vauxhall Astra. She is lovely - an old 'L' reg, maroon with a dent in the side and 4 stickers in the back (dogs trust, Rare Breeeds Survival Trust, "Ooops, word censored!"nal and Haywards Heath Harriers for anyone thats interested - you can tell a lot about a person by what stickers (if any) they have in their car!!!) I passed my test (first time!) nearly 3 years ago and Mike passed his 6 months ago. (He's mildly epileptic so its taken him ages to be able to learn.) We have had her since before i passed! Unfortuatly we went to the leisure centre in a nearby town sunday afternoon for an U11's Athletics event and when we tried to start her back up afterwards she would not start. Called the garage out and they eventually came and started her but didn't know whats wrong, tried to start here again later that evening. Would not start. Phoned the garage monday morning and drove her in (she started ok) they found nothing wrong with her (i think they thought it was a figment of my imagination) When i came to drive her away from the garage she wouldn't start!!! So shes still there awaiting a further look today... GRRR. I have had to get the bus to the nearby town and railway station then train to work. Very Annoying and such a waste of time. I'm worried Vera may be on her last legs. Shes had loads of work done recently I'm really attached to her though....
kannie
My first car was a Ford Popular ....and cost £25 . Thought mine was cheap at £100 (including a TV and camping bed)! It was from some students who were returning to their home country, and it was a SKODA!!! That was in the days of skodas being a complete joke, of course! It too was handpainted, and had special effects on one wing where we put something else on top of the paint for some reason I forget, that made it go all crinkly! It wouldn't go over 30mph, but had wonderful secret storage spaces behind the back seat!
Egluntyne
A white Fiat 127 which cost me £100 and I got 2 years out of it even though it was ancient. Had to hot wire it to start it! Quite a few people were impressed that I could do that. Wouldn't have a clue now. Edited January 16, 2007 by Guest
The Dogmother
Mine was a red Fiat 500 like this one It had holes in the floor that let the wet in. I had a dodgy rear light that worked on a whim - the police stopped me about it once and then told me off for driving barefoot Great thing about it was when I once got hemmed in a parking space while I was out with my rugby playing boyfriend - he and his mates lifted it out of the space for me The roll-back roof perished and it died
Lesley
Mine looked like this but with glass rear/side windows. The colour is simailr as well I was just looking in Images and found this - it has a picture of a chicken on the side If the stickers in your car give a lot away - I have absolutely none!! I refuse to have even the Dealers stickers - if they want to advertise on my car then they can pay me!
