How many do you cook for

Recommended Posts

10 this year. :) SIL and I take it in turns to do Christmas Day. She's a nurse and has to work this Christmas Day so we won't have dinner untill around 5 when she gets home from her shift. :)

The most I've cooked Christmas dinner for is 15, it was a bit of a squeeze. In those days I only had a little dinning room so we had garden table and plastic chairs up in the lounge with the 6 kids rounds and 9 adults around the dinning table and OH had to sit on the bedroom stool

Good Luck with your dinner for 20 Dippy Bird. The most useful thing I have found is to write out a timetable in minute detail, as I find it hard to concentrate on what needs doing with all the arrival of guests and exchanging of presents especially if i have a pre dinner tipple :lol:

Five of us this year. I have upset OH by saying his mum is NOT coming, but I said she could come on Boxing Day - I also said that his dad could come anytime but not her. Digging my heels in here.

Boxing day could be interesting - if she dares try her nonsense I will plead diminished responsibility for my actions.

I know how you feel Sarah.. the world revolves round my sister.. well at least as far as Christmas is concerned. My mother always waits to see what she's doing before comitting to anything. This year I got fed up with waiting and asked my sister what she intended to do.. turns out that so long as she doesn't have to cook for anybody, she's happy with the folks coming to me on C'mas day and then they can go to hers for a cold spread on Boxing Day.

Sorted!

Ignore them and enjoy yourselves :D

My new oven arrives tomorrow - can't wait! :D

The most I have done is 14 but this year we are in Dubai for Christmas and New Year  (just seeing if the dance thing will work as it seems to be a bit temperamental!) so no cooking for me. It's odd though as I haven't bothered with a tree which is really strange.

We're cooking for 12 this year - usually 15 but son is no longer with his girlfriend and my stepmother died a few months ago. Her mother used to come as well but she will go to her son's this year. Home grown chicken and topside of beef.......plus all trimmings.

We used to go to MILs on Boxing Day but we haven't been able to go since we moved to the farm :whistle: - a day for slobbing around and eating leftovers :D

I'm looking forward to that day!

OH's cousin always does the Christmas day eats too - her sister has never done it and her parents haven't done it since the day she started the "rotation"!

None this year, as we are at friends (with DD DS and aged father) but last year they came to us and I cooked for 9. I will do a Christmas dinner for 5 of us on Boxing Day as my Dad is severly disabled, and likes his Christmas dinner at home with us. The most I have ever catered for is 60 (buffet) but because we are veggie I couldn't get away with any plates of cold meat and because IMO most ready prepared Veggie food isn't worth eating. most things had to be made from scratch - although I did buy the puddings from Cook - that was for OH 50th Birthday...so why oh why a year later did I agree to do the whole thing again to get the family and friends round for DD's 18th birthday - only 55 people that time :?

I have to say,I haven't had a christmas dinner cooked for me in 9 years! And I have been cooking for the whole of my family for the last nine years as well.Every closest Sunday to chrimbo everyone meets at my house and myself and hubby cook a huge christmas dinner for everyone - the most we have done is for 32  , we used to borrow trestle tables from the local dance school (in exchange for a bottle of good whiskey),and put them in my living room/dining room.It was always very hard work, but ended up great fun(very drunken),one year I made the huge mistake of doing a buffet-omg! My family were completely fed up!

Now that we have moved to a much smaller house, everyone has to eat wherever they are stood as we can barely get round the table in our now very small dining room. Thank god for hostess trolleys I say!!!

Just the two of us, *does mini me dance*, on Christmas day, but parents coming over with my Gran in the late afternoon. Boxing day will be a 'big Christmas dinner' with 9 of us. Had better get the sprouts on now.

Apparently my aunt puts the vegetables on to boil before she puts the potatoes in to roast  . I wonder if she's put her brussels on yet?

MY grandparents are all polish so my parents only ever did the polish christmas thing (12 couses christas eve followed by prezzies) each course s meant to represent a disciple and traditionally you have straw under the tablecloth to represent the stable.

with little kids its too long at the table so xmas eve were are having 3 main courses followed by singing carols and xmas songs then prezzies then 3 puds (6 adults 1 3 yr 1 1yr old and 1 10m old) Oh and lots of vodka (we all do a toast so get through a bit ) however we share the cooking for this

My brother and his GF will then go home this yr to wake uo at home for their 1st family xmas

then as we will be sooooo hungy having starved all xmas eve we I will cook smoked salmon and scrambled egg for the 6 of us ( us and my parents) then a traditional English roast ( turkey and ham this year free range of course)
