Purplemaniacs
mum came round for dinner, i didn't want her to be on her own tonight; i made vichyssoise, followed by roast beef, stuffing, yorkshire pud, roast spuds, parsnips, sprouts and gravy followed by home made apple pie and custard. Just chilling now with a nice glass of fizz and looking forward to relaxing for the evening Wow Poet, it sounds like you deserve to chill after all that cooking, have a nice evening. Must remember I have beef to cook tomorrow and all the trimmings. Chrissie

Sunshine
Well i've stayed in, probably not whatmany 20 year olds are doing this evening. I've finished watching the 1st series of the inbetweeners after my couins were raving about at Christmas and then i've watched the Gavin and Stacey episode that i missed. chickencam
we were with BIL, SIL, MIL,FIL, and our lovely giggly 7month old nephew until 9.30, then we left to avoid too much ice and fog and have been watching Jools and drinking a lovely red and some sloe gin since
craftyhunnypie
Happy New Year! Well we walked into town & went The Ganges Indian Restaurant. Absolutely gorgeous! We then went in The Swan & Chequers pub, as we know the landlord (free). But the dj was rubbish, the music kept jumping, he had feedback on his microphone & the people in there... It was either oldish past it single blokes or oldish women ' mutton dressed as lamb'. The oldie blokes were drooling over the few young girls that were in there & they were letting them. Ugh - horrid. The dj got Auld Lang Syne all mixed up & played it way too early, then played Scorpians Wings of change at midnight! It was absolute dire! My hubby turned to me on the way home & said, he is so glad he is married & really appreciates how lucky he is to have me. Ahhhhhh bless! So at 0.30 am we decided to walk back home. Where we will spend next new year who knows? Emma.x

Valkyrie
DS went out with GF - very smart in a suit he was, she was wearing a nice black lace over cream dress, quite pretty. DD met a friend from London, showed him around the area, drove him to meet their other friends (got lost twice in Andover - again and missed our exit on the way home, had to get off at Fleet and come back again - she was well embarrassed). Dropped him back at the station and we spent the evening with a takeaway after being tired out emptying wardrobes and shifting furniture. Bit of a nightmare really! docsquid
In the end we got bored, went to bed about 10.30 and only vaguely woke to hear the fireworks going off locally. Will watch recording of Jools at a future date.
Daphne
OMG - I spent the evening in the company of a David Tennant lookalike (and his wife and 9 other people). I am still in swoon mode and no sense will be had from me for some time to come
ali-s
Just the three of us at home last night as Jack went out with friends, he has yet to return Watched Harry Potter on DVD and then turned to the English sky channel to watch the fireworks in London. We went outside to look for fireworks and were amazed to see lots of sky candles drifting in the night sky, they were beautiful and so much nicer than noisy fireworks. Natalie and myself want sky candles for next new years eve.

dippy bird
Having a pants time with miserable 80 year old FIL who is like Victor Meldrew only without the laughs. Will go to bed early to avoid letting him get me too depressed. We call him the 'Dementor' out of the Harry Potter Books, as he sucks all the happiness and life out of you and leaves you an exhausted shell! Sadly we are stuck with him for every special occasion as he is on his own, and my OH is an only child. Very jealous of all you lot having a jolly time 't actually get to eat the main well our night was completely ruined by my inlaws who invited themselves round! They said that they were popping in for half an hour, but stayed for 4 hours!!! They completely ruined our evening, stopped us from eating at a normal time no matter how many times we had hinted that we were waiting to eat and that the kids were all starving.Clearly that didn't matter as they had already eaten! We ended wolfing the first course down at 11.40,then had to go and see the new year in with them(as they still hadn't left!!), and didn't actually get to eat the main til almost 1 am! We were all so fed up after that, that we just went to bed on very heavy stomachs, whereas we had planned to play board games with the kids. I also missed my sister trying to call me to tell me that her partner had just proposed as well. GGGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrr -IN LAWS!!

Ain't Nobody Here
well our night was completely ruined by my inlaws who invited themselves round! What a shame . My in-laws (both in their 80s) phoned this morning to say they got to bed at 3am because neighbours kept popping in and wouldn't leave (which the in-laws were quite happy about!) . Good on them . Valkyrie
Freudian slip there! Wondering about the sky candles - our neighbours had some at Christmas for their grandchildren, and watching them struggle to get height, I was wondering what would happen if they got caught on the thatched rooves that are dotted around here. Other than that, they're lovely and graceful.
Patricia W
there were lots of sky candles here as well ( south of Oxford) - don't suppose they were the same ones from Scotland..... or Basingstoke?? Tricia
Lewis
Its amazing to think where they could end up! Maybe put a tag on one like they do for balloon releases, and see if anyone responds?

I'm afraid under those circumstances I have in the past simply told them we're going to eat and gone and got the supper. It simply isn't on to make people, particularly children, wait for a meal until so late. I hate it when people are so insensitive.

Seagazer
We had a brilliant time on the river cruise and moored up to the side of Houses of Parliament to watch the fireworks go off. The only downside was the herding that you go through to get back to the railway station. You go on such a long detour. Free rail travel though and trains every half hour. So much rubbish on the street too
Chook n Boo Mum
We had a brilliant time on the river cruise and moored up to the side of Houses of Parliament to watch the fireworks go off. The only downside was the herding that you go through to get back to the railway station. You go on such a long detour. Free rail travel though and trains every half hour. So much rubbish on the street too We were watching Mylene Klass waffling away, repeating herself & looking at the river to see if we could see you Glad you had a good time, all those crowds put the fear of God in me ......much rather be in my front room or with a small group of family & friends The children managed to stay awake mostly, though DD made a nest of the floor with her duvet & dozed off about 11.50, so had to be woken up for the chimes bless her, even DH stayed awake which was quite an achievement on it's own, so Omlet was not my place of entertainment on NYE Sha x
