A bad thing, but then some good things

Recommended Posts

I had a phone call from my dad this morning letting me know my brother was knocked off his bike last night. He lives in London as was cycling home along the main road a few minutes from home when some idiot pulled up to the junction, stopped and then pulled out right in front of him. And then the (word would NOT be allowed here) drove off!!!

My brother is okay, nothing broken, just very winded, a grazed face and bruised sternum. As he hit his head whilst not wearing a helmet *tuttuttut* he has to keep an eye out for concussion. Luckily lots of people saw what happened so details of the car and driver have been given, paramedics etc were called and there within minutes. A chap took him into his house to wait for the ambulance so he didn't get cold and the ambulance even dropped off his bike at his house. At the hospital they kept saying just how lucky he was.

I was very impressed by the fact that people, especially in the area he lives which is not very neighbourly, came to his aid and didn't just look the other way

Do tell him, if he doesn't already do this, to stay away from the sides of lorries at junctions. Greenwich now has its third "ghost bike", and two of them are for women killed by a lorry turning left when the traffic lights changed to green and dragging them under the wheels,

one a few weeks ago and the other (a beautiful Polish girl) last spring. (The lorry that killed the Polish girl has still not been traced.)

A great relief that he is all right and lovely to hear about the help that he received.

I am sure that the driver involved will be traced but don't be surprised if he pleads not guilty to any allegation of failing to stop on the basis that he, "didn't realise that anything had happened!"

So glad your brother is ok, very lucky too, it could have been a lot worse. I am sure the police will track down the driver, then lets hope they throw the book at him!

Its always nice to know that the world IS still filled with decent, kindhearted people. We do tend to only hear about the bad things but, as always, in times of trouble the british people are hard to beat ! :D

Thank you all for your kind words.

I've just spoken to my brother and he's been back to the hospital as his cheek has swollen. So much, its stretched his left eye out a bit. Seems he may have broken his cheekbone, but is seeing some Maxillofacial specialist tomorrow so we shall know more then. He's been given some oil to put on his skin as where the grazes are drying its getting sorer and feels like its going to crack. He sent me a photo and it looks very ouch! It looks almost like he's been beaten up :(
