laurmurf
My blue badge arrived today: I'm officially disabled. It's like a right of passage since my diagnosis of arthritis and is really quite depressing, while at the same time the skinflint in me keeps thinking 'well at least i'll get free parking' (i even get to cross the Severn Bridge for free... gosh, i better start crossing the Severn bridge more often... from York)
Lesley
The Severn Bridge will be the long way round to anywhere for you Laurie Don't feel sad - you don't have to use it if you're having a good day - and it will be so useful to you on the days when you need it. laurmurf
thanks, Lesley, I hadn't thought of it like that! It felt more like a proclamation of doom than an 'aid' to recovery on the bad days. That's a very positive take on it! (and i still get that Severn Bridge crossing! )
theherd123
Good for you! (If that sounds right!) Try not to view it as a negative thing, even though at times it must be hard. Like Lesley said use it when you need to when you are having a bad day or if you really want to fight over parking spaces in Sainsburys leave it at home! Space Chick
Don't underestimate the benefit of a free Severn Bridge Crossing As one who crosses it fairly regularly, it costs an absolute fortune
Looney
I guess it must feel a bit strange to have it But, it won't change who you are compared to who you were before it arrived - just means parking should be a bit less hassle! (When I first glanced at the title of this topic I read "I've been 'blue badgered'" The mind boggles )
Mrs Frugal
I've got one. I got mine when I was 30 and I know just how you feel but my goodness, they are a godsend sometimes and so useful to have when you're struggling as they really do make life easier. As Lesley has suggested, I use mine when I have to when I know that walking any further just isn't going to be an option.
ChrisP
Think of it as a benefit, you can park right outside shops etc As other's have said, if you feel ok, you don't have to use it, and if you want to use it, you have that option
AnnieP
Good for you. Use it!
Ain't Nobody Here
Good for you. Use it! Ditto from me . I hope it makes life easier for you .
Lewis
... I think As others have said, you only have to use it when you need/want to ... It could stay in the glove box all the time - except when you're crossing the bridge of course
debbier
My aunt has one, and we find it invaluable when going to shows at the NEC and Malvern. It's not the cost, it's the accessibility, and the fact that she doesn't have to walk so far to the venues. If you need it, then use it. ClaireG
You were given it for a reason Laurie, so dont feel bad about using it. Like the others have said you only have to use it on bad days.
poachedegg
Think of what it may allow you to do which maybe without it you wouldn't have been able to....so it may be a blessing in keeping you out and about.
Seagazer
I think you're finding it hard because it makes it feel 'official', that you are in some way disabled. Is that true do you think? Don't think of it like that just as the others have said. On the days you need to you use it.
Valkyrie
Or you are one of the elite folks now. Parking should be and don't forget to wave at us regal fashion as you go by! Just make sure you don't do the bridge too many times in one day - you could be arrested for suspected smuggling across the border!
chick wiggle
Hey, the good thing is, when we go to Space Chicks for a bit of chuck napping, we can all pile in your car and cross that bridge for free! When I saw the subject all I could think was 'shes got a Blue Peter Badge'
Valkyrie
Yes don't forget - beware of hitchhikers waving eggs and feathers.
Couperwife
happy blue badge do you know you can park ANYWHERE with a blue badge - so if you just want to nip into a shop and cant find a space - park on double yellows and whip out the badge and well done being able to cross the bridge cathy x
mostin
When I saw the subject all I could think was 'shes got a Blue Peter Badge' I thought that too . I've seen you on your good days Laurie, but I've seen you on your bad days too, and it's not fair for you to suffer. You still go shopping and drag stuff round for an OH and 4 kids , you need to be as close as possible when it hurts. It must have felt like a kick in the *cough* when it arrived, but it doesn't define who you are. You know i understand all about having labels and being defined by them , it's hard at first, but i like to think that one size doesn't fit all, certainly not with labels. You can join my gang, we are couture, not off the rack .
