fluffyknickers
Fingers and everything else cross I am hopefully getting a WIR - just a small one (about 8x4x6). I have a quote from CMS and waiting for a Tony quote (doubt will be able to have a tony though). My one big stumbling point is what to have as the base. Do I a) have it come with a wooden base and add the aubiose on top of the wood bottom b) have it come with NO base and just put it on bare earth with aubiose c) have it come with NO base and put it on a slabbed area with the aubiose on top of the slabs. Or other - please advise!! Thanks michelle

BarbaraJ
b) but depends on your soil mine is firm and doesn't get waterlogged
fluffyknickers
Thank you all so far. My worry with a soil bottom is foxes digging in. Anyone had this or way to prevent this? We have a very small garden and only a small patch of grass left as the rest is paved. We are waiting for quotes to pave the whole lot and not have any grass at all and then the WIR will sit on paved area (with or without its wood bottom!). In the meantime though before the paving is done it will have to sit on earth - or maybe a make-do paved area til the 'men' come and do the patio properly. chelsea
I say © too.
BarbaraJ
I say © too. Our entire run sits on a row of bricks with paving slabs around the outside edges. Can't see foxes getting in but obviously depends on your fox situation.
Redwing
If you put a wire skirt on the bottom like the Eglu run you would be fine I definitely wouldnt go with option A whatever happens
fluffyknickers
Gosh tasha that would involve DIY and having to find a wire skirt!!! Argh! Not husbands best skill! Ok so option A is out of the question. Thanks Michelle

Ain't Nobody Here
I'm "other" . Slabs just where the run sits. I can't see foxes getting under it, tbh.

Plum
My OH said what about putting down tiles on base to make it easier to wash down. Mind boggles, you could have something like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mosaic.woodchester.arp.750pix.jpg
Cinnamon
Mine is straight onto the soil, but there was a deep layer of sand as it used to be the base of the swimming pool. We do have a high water table here,so this time of year we do have piddles, but the hens seem to enjoy them so..........*shrug*
