martinw
I had only popped out for an hour, and have been keeping my two chooks under lock and key since I saw a fox in the nearby woods two weeks ago while it was snowing. I came home and went into the back garden to see my eglu open, and it's egg hatch thrown up onto the patio, both of my girls have gone. Heartbroken. They have been stolen, that's the only explanation. The metal stick that holds the door shut has just been found outside of the boundaries of my garden by a neighbour 3 doors down. I have called the police, they have given me a crime number, but thats all they want to do. I've set up a webcam to monitor the garden tonight, just incase they return to get the elgu. My first and best chooks gone. If anyone here is from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire and you hear of anyone acquiring 1 Gingernut and 1 Pepperpot, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. If you are an urban chicken keeper, please make sure your girls are locked up tight. Martin

Cazx
That is so cruel I suppose none of your neighbours saw or heard anything? How can anyone make off with chickens without anyone noticing? I hope you get them back. I know I'd be devistated if anything happened to my girls, even though Ive only had them 3 weeks, they are part of my family. Redwing
Thats terribly sad I am sorry If you feel you could recognise them again you could try going to the Melton Mobray auctions, I think they are Sat and Tues each week, quite a few chooks of 'secondhandedness' end up there
jellykelly
OMG People bother me more then foxes. Foxes are merely doing what comes natural. I really hope that they show up somewhere for ou

There can be some very dubious examples that turn up there. Very sorry to hear about your loss - it does seem to be on the increase, any one got any ideas for a secure human proof protection system for the cube? Padlock and chain? Sad state of society really stealing two pet chooks

Alis girls
I dont have Eglu yet - but am thinking of painting my postcode on it when it comes. needless to say cant do the same to the hens. Are 2 hens going to fetch that much money wise? They are not special breeds I know a friend paid 30 quid for some fancy chuck or other. I do hope you find them
Foot-tapper506
Oh no - that is really horrible, in a way even worse than mr fox taking them. Thanks for posting this warning, I live near northampton so will be a little more vigilant but if someone is intent on stealing chooks I am not sure there's much I can do. They are in the run all day while I am at work. Hope you get some news.
Stevie
Im amazed that someone has stolen two chickens. Its not like they're expensive which makes me think its possibly teenagers. Although i dont live in Wellingborough-i do however work there and travel all over the town and talk to a lot of people. If you dont mind me asking and without giving too many details on an open forum-which part of Wellingborough do you live so i can keep this in mind?
