A level results

Recommended Posts

Thank you and well done everyone :D

We had to wait until 10.00 am for ES and DDs respective schools to open for results - no texting here either.

DD says "now the hard work starts" She wants to do medicine and will need 3 A grades and well over 300 UCAS points this time next year, and she also has to sit the UKCat test in the next few weeks. :anxious:

Cinnamon, DD says if it were her, she would appeal but that's just her opinion - hope you can get it satisfactorily sorted though.

Ahh wicked Lewis, they're really nice! I was in Alexandra Halls last year, by the sea.

Cinnamon, I would ask for the papers to be remarked possibly if the grade was that much different to what you expected it to be. How did her friends on that course do?

Collected my AS results...A in Art, (which I'm dropping... ) B in Maths, (A's in my C1 retake and Stats, unfortunately a D in the C2 paper, it was HORRIBLE, am going to retake), B in Physics, (Just, VERY HAPPY about that though!) and a B in Biology, (Annoyingly, 4 marks off an A, so will probably retake that paper as I got a high C, but I know I can do better).

So overall ABBB, but I'm feeling quite positive, I'll get there. Hoping to apply to do Biology/optometry for 2011...Feel happy though having looked at clearing as 3 places are offering optom places this year, and everything considered that's impressive!

Well done everyone :D

DD got a C in her Business Studies A level and we won't mention the other two....Given that she spent nearly all of the year not going in :wall::wall: she was amazed to get that. Anyway, she's nearly done her 4th week in her full time job and is enjoying it :D

Great results,Liz :clap::clap::clap:

How do you know how many marks you are off of a higher grade?

I am trying to find out if Devons C in English was a close B,& therefore a good idea to get re marked?

Don't forget that they can drop a grade if remarked and this would stick. They were stressing that point this morning on TV.

When DD and other classmates didn't do as well as expected in a couple of A/S levels school were against remarking and they just did re-sits.

My son got his (AS) results detailed into individual module marks, so you could work out the overall mark. I looked at last year's (2009) grade boundaries as to where he was. I think they differ slightly from year to year, but it gave an idea, anyway.

Devon should have the UMS score she got for each module, Sarah, and thetotal UMS its out of - look at the exam boards website and see what the grade boundaries were, that'll tell you how far off she was :)

I've never bothered with re-marks, some people at school have gone ... re-take and you could get worse, but the best result counts

Just been to a friends for a BBQ, and then to Walkabout ... there was a bouncy castle + foam party :D:lol:

Her 'B' is 1 point off an 'A' & her 'C' is 3 points off a 'B' :?

Looks like a re mark could be beneficial, then.

You should consider the possibility that another marker may score the paper lower, it's happened.

That's what I said yesterday.

I know we all want what's best for our children but personally I don't think getting them remarked does them any favours. The result is what they get on the day. The same as with a driving test. DD failed on what she and her instructor were adament she shouldn't have done. She could have appealed but decided what was the point. She drew a line under it and took it again.

Yes, but is that '1 point off 'for ONE exam or averaged over several items (eg. a few exams and a few items of course work)? If its over several items then it needs to go up by 1 mark on all the items to go up 1 mark overall.

3 points is quite a lot.

Just a thought.
