in giving my household appliances names

 

My daughters think I am quite mad.

 

We have Midge (The Fridge), Jimmy (The Hoover), Steve (Strange,the Range) Michael (The Recycle),& a Spatula called 'The Count' (think about it!)

 

The washing machine is called Wishy Woo,for reasons unknown even to me

 

This is one of those times that I truly hope I am not alone.....................................

Well our appliances don't have names, but there is a 'Giraffe' that lives in the fridge. The giraffe guards the carrots and the sage and the curly kale so that no one can eat it before we give it to our bunnies.

My car is called Cherry, but that's about it - cars definitely have names. Usually appliances have rather um, rude names like "why have you broken down you "

Strangely,Marge, my Panda, so named as she is the exact colour of Marge Simpsons hair,is our only female inanimate object.

I like the idea of the household things being male

A previous boyfriend had a toaster and a kettle both called Phil (think about it). Before we got a steam iron we used to mist particularly creased clothes with a spray bottle I named Norris the Squirter.

 

[Edited to add] And when we lived on a narrowboat the chemical toilet was called Mr Stinky (although he only stank when you were emptying him).

er - I was about to say that I don't name appliances, and then I remembered that when I had a lodger, she used to refer to things by names. I can't remember them all now, but I do know the dehumidifier was known as Mr D (as in "I'm ready for my close up now, Mr De Mille").

Sally sat nav here & she's totally stupid. She's always saying ' if possible..make a u turn' in her rather posh voice. Why can't they do Sat Navs with normal accents?

I'm so surprised at the responses here..isn't it perfectly normal to name appliances etc then?..Not everything in our house has a name, but our microwave is called Marcel (if you're over a certain age you may get that) we have a cupboard in the hall called Chinese Alan (yes it did come from Gavin and Stacey) and the shed where I keep my chicken stuff is called Chicken George (again you may or may not get the reference). I'd thought this was normal until now....
