Snow

Excellent pics OSH * Seagazer :D

We have had to abandon our Xmas visit to family in France because of the weather. Usually it a 6 hour drive, I think we could have got to Dover, but apparently there is snow in Calais and its moving westwards on our route. Our road didn't look much fun at 6.00am this morning and after my experiences yesterday the thought of such a stressful and potentially very long journey didn't appeal at all. Schools are shut, trains aren't running, chickens are hibernating, can't hear my bees, the cats are stranded at the cattery, we have no milk or fresh food, SIL now has to eat an entire shoulder of lamb/rest of her special food shop with her OH, MIL is disappointed but relieved we aren't travelling, its snowing and its just like February with everything being difficult all over again. Anybody without snow is welcome to mine. Moan, grumble, hurrumph :(

 Well done those snow sculptures! Oi Christian - you are making me jealous! Sun's out here and it's minus 1 outside.

People have taken to abandoning their cars along the back of us - which is really irritating and dangerous. Not as if it's anything like last time and they are too lazy. Just followed a twit (female) who parked right on the brow of the steep hill and I couldn't see if there was anything coming so had to take a chance to overtake. Well she could see OK, that was just so selfish.8.gif It really isn't that bad as long as you go carefully. Ah well, they just can't drive can they? Sad people.

Going out tonight but I'm wondering if I should - more snow predicted by the local radio news, but they are wrong about today so far. :?

No more snow here overnight, but plenty of ice, so it's lethal out there. The wind has got up and is cutting the temperature right down. It is clouding up now and looks like snow for later.

Phil's out driving today (he delivers luxury cars when the illustration work dries up) and he says that most of the southern part of the M25 is closed, above Birmingham is gridlocked and they are restricted to about a 2 hour radius.

Hmm, dunno, sounded a little more serious than that - they'd usually say lorry blocking road because it's skewiffy, but the police incident sounded like a car chase type of thing. Ooooooh!!!!!! Saw one of those on the M27 a while back - one car being "escorted" by 4 police cars "Ooops, word censored!"ody else on the road for miles and then another police car holding everyone back. Luckily we were in the opposite direction.

Oooh just seen your update Squiddy. That would be it then. I used to learn to drive there - I know that road well.

Lovely snow sculptures! 8)

Ann - if you make it to Stratford we'll have to meet up - it should be breakfast at the Farmers' Market on Saturday if Claret can make it from Banbury - and if we can get out of the end of the drive!

Still just an inch of snow here but bitterly cold and everything frozen solid. No outside water at all now so having to carry gallons for the cows and sheep.

SiL is up near Egluntyne - he had to work in Doncaster yesterday and today. It took him three hours to get two miles to his hotel yesterday evening and then he was snowed in. He's tried digging the car out but ended up having to walk back to work. He's hoping to get home tonight - we're trying to get him to leave as early as possible while it's still light.

Fab pictures everyone. Your snow sculpture is amazing OSH. I made a rough snow chicken last year would love to play again but it can wait until the weekend.

My ED is going up to Birmingham Library Theatre to see a play which she is studying for A level tomorrow evening, the school have said that the trip will go ahead unless the coach company call it off. We are off out tonight for a long arranged meal with friends, not sure whether to go or not. :?

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Well we now have loads. I'd decided to try to go out today, mid morning once the roads were cleared and it's been blizzard conditions since 10. I've cleared my path 3 times this morning andhave now given up.

I saw Look North last night and they were reporting from Sheffield (Egluntyne-land) and it looked truly awful. Think we are now catching up. Most buses in Huddersfield have just parked up at the side of the road and they are expecting people to walk the rest of the way!

Has everybody bought their Yaktrax? I bought some for mum for XMas but gave them to her last week and she is thrilled with them. She walked down to their local Sainsburys this morning and said it was so much better, not so much of a slip or slide....Yaktrax website only have XL left but there are quite a few still on Ebay at normal prices, but if you want some, hurry up and get them NOW!! No point in me getting anything delivered here, we've had no post since Saturday!
