TAJ
Some say he is just ugly - to me he is my cute little boy I grew from an egg (now a year old). http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii49/TAJchicks/P1000517.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii49/TAJchicks/P1000516.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii49/TAJchicks/P1000515.jpg Obviously fellow Omleters will see his beauty and admire that comb. TAJ
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Well he is a bundle of fluff and is quite happy laid out in your arms - he is not happy if I pick up one of his girls, but I can understand that. He does have a great nature so that has to count for something - his 'beauty' is more than skin deep I feel! Tracy

TAJ
A face only a mother could love... ...but not a grandmother - everytime my mum sees him she says I just can't believe he is so ugly, poor thing!
Chortle Chook
His silkie feathers are just lovely and his beady eye too, so a handsome fellow if his face is not magnified. I've never been a fan of, is it called rose combs, whether legit or not. Editted to add: if his personality is nice then that's what matters anyway. My Silkie boy has all the wrong head gear too but I lurve him as he is such a dear little gentleman. Edited March 6, 2012 by Guest

francesca88
Wowee, he is very impressive! At what age did that comb start developing? I only ask because I hatched a partridge silkie seven weeks ago, not sure if it's a he or a she yet - but I heard you often can't tell with a silkie until they either crow or lay an egg! Chortle Chook
I've found that on the boys the tuft on the top of their head is more like 'hair' and on the girls it is more like 'fluff'
mollyripkim
Wow I think he is beautiful and obviously a great character. I would love a silkie boy but don't think my neighbours would stand it.
Chortle Chook
Here's a suggestion for you mollyripkim . . . Ask around your neighbours . . . proposing a 3 week trial period, then 'if' they are OK with the idea of a small cockerel hanging around (you may find some people even positively like the idea), find a breeder who would take him back should you get any complaints within the first 3 weeks. Tempted? Am I ?
TAJ
I've found that on the boys the tuft on the top of their head is more like 'hair' and on the girls it is more like 'fluff' I think it has been said before about girls being more like a sticking up tuft on top and the boys is more swept back - the width of the comb can also be an indication. They are usually difficult to spot until holder - we thought boy from an early age, just his leg positioning, etc - only confirmed when he started to crow. He actually 'shares' 14 girls with 'Mr Silkie' (hence his name of Mr Silkie 2) in the past both I have not been happy with other boys - Mr Silkie is about 6 months older (18 months now) and they just accept each other - Mr Silkie 2 is more the one for looking after the girls.
