Omleteers fit for 2013

Recommended Posts

My rowing m/c arrived and is all set up 8) I love it  But wow is it hard work

Great thing about it being in the conservatory and all set up is I can pop in and row 1k whenever. So far I've managed 1k a day  . Hoping to see a dramatic difference in my times and distances by end of the month.

ES is all enthused about us entering regattas this year

Can I join in?

I gave up smoking 11 months and 2 days ago :D but I put on 2 stones  . I have managed to lose 10 lbs by eating less and moving more. I am actually at a good weight for my height and build now after spending most of my adult life underweight  I really want to get rid of my pregnant looking tum, I think this is an age thing as I am getting close to fifty.

I have been going to spinning class twice a week since November and I got a Wii fit for Christmas which I am enjoying. As soon as it is light enough in the mornings I plan to cycle to work. I would also like to get back to running which I gave up after knee problems a couple of years ago.

Well done giving up smoking that's not easy.

You all sound fearfully energetic. I'd like to join in though I didn't last long last year. I'm officially obese so am starting gently until my weight is more reasonable.

I was in a bad state on near years day after walking up a steep hill and wheezed for best part of an hour afterwards so am definately motivated. I'm walking a mile or so each day with a steep hill included and feeling loads better for it and better for a new inhaler!

Anyone else walking to get fit ? :D

I'm starting back at the gym on Monday. I walk every day with Cookie. It's easier to tell how much I walk at the weekend as I walk around the lake whilst YS is doing polo training and its 2k a lap. I've been doing 2 laps a day but as its cold today will try to do 3. :D

Well I did join 2012 but that went to pot for a few reasons.

I have already lost 13lb so I am with you all this time  and I have bought a s"Ooops, word censored!"y running machine which is lovely I have to say as others do not have to see my beetroot face  or hear my chugga chugga noise

I aim to lose as much of the weight as I can before my op late April and then keep as fit as I can by using my running machine and possibly walking to work, as I may be changing jobs  oooooh my legs might look trim for once....

Forty five minutes at spinning yesterday evening, I slept like a log last night. According to the Wii Fit I have lost 2lbs this week :) . I take this with a pinch of salt as my weight on the board goes up and down according to where I place it on the living room carpet.

I have just read through the 13 pages of the Harcombe diet thread in the All Things Nice section. Off to town later to see If I can get the book. I do not want to lose much weight but I do want to change the way I eat. OH has just been shopping for a few bits, what a load of rubbish he has bought, not what I would buy at all or enjoy eating.

I normally get 3 sets of hydrotherapy with the physio of 3 sets of twice a week for 5 wks each over the winter months to keep me mobile during the worst time of the year.

Due to cut backs i can only go now on referral for one 5wk set. My consultant isn't too happy but will refer me every winter.

I have been going to the local pools to keep my mobility going and suffering more due to the cold temp of the water. For this i pay for the privledge of between £3 - 4.75 ,3 times a wk. At the most this is a staggering £57 a month.

I joined the gym today for £29. a month to have all the benifits of the pools.( 3 pools, jacuzzi, hydro pool, sauna ,steam room and daily mobility aqua work outs) The water temp in the therapy pool is a constant 36c .

Why have i been paying such a lot when i could have had the benifits of the gym ???? I must have had brain freeze or something.....No the Physio said go to sun lane , normanton, wakefield, dewsbury pools with a timetable for there sessions in what i can only call freezing water.

My Consultants wife ( bless her ) said come to the gym for 30 quid a month and enjoy the heated pool.....der!!! so i have.

When i get there today who do i see but my physio....I told her i was not impressed at her advice or the cost , let alone the cold pools.....she had nothing to say.....I live on disability income and therefore the gym has saved me a lot of money.

I have downloaded an app to my ipad today for workouts and a yoga one for stretching, I have really tight upper back and shoulders from years of bad posture and dodgy genes, I am determined to become more supple and to tone my midriff. I did a quick cardio workout and if it had been any longer I think the grim reaper may have had a new client  I then did the 20 minute yoga one which was a nice way to stretch and cool down. I especially liked the lying down on the floor relaxing move at the end.:lol:

:lol::lol: Love it Liz!

Re posture, see if this helps.... stand up with your feet hip distance apart and knees slightly soft and hands by your sides, turn your palms to the front, and raise your shoulders, roll back and down. Lengthen your neck by tucking your chin under a wee bit and imagining that there are threads just behind your ears pulling your head upwards. This is a good neutral position to start with when exercising, it may also help your aches. Midriff is slightly different but you can practice it in this position; without clenching your bum try to 'zip' your pelvic floor muscles up and in as if you are holding onto a wee. hold for 20 seconds, release and do again - do 5 repetitions and increase to holding for 30 seconds.... you'll be able to pick up a kleenex off the floor with your pelvic floor muscles if you keep this up!

Not as much exercise at The Doghouse as we'd like... Rosie's triathlon training has been postponed due to a frozen track but she's going to the gym and finishing her lifeguard training as before. I haven't been to the gym as much as I'd like and when there have been suffering from a deep apathy  really need to get a programme drawn up and stick to it. Also, with it being dark so early, I am missing my yomps across the fields with the hounds which I get in the summer, we are confined to town walks.

Why did I ever think I used to enjoy exercising ??? I think I lost that over the last few years  I do love a good power walk though.. that is not too much to bear.

Did 10 mins on the rowing machine then dragged YS round to the village paper shop - not sure if he is getting to old for that sort of thing or if I am! Anyway, was shattered!

Should have made it clear that YS was on a sledge before anyone calls Childline!
