Valkyrie
Well OH was wondering what was wrong with a chicken in a photo in the Country Smallholding magazine. I told him that's what he'd been eating recently from the organic farm we go to. Transylvanian Naked Neck. Nope, this is definitely not on my wanted list (although I think the chicks look cute). But then I got side tracked on Feathersite - like ya do - and I found this: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Swede/BRKSwedeSpot.html And I want it for it's Swedish name - I just love the sound of blommehona! Ain't Nobody Here
They're lovely . Look like they got in the way of a paint roller and got all sparked with magnolia .
sjp
their nice but I still prefer my TNN's
mullethunter
Oh no! They're lovely! Why did you do that I was in blissful ignorance 5 minutes ago
Claireabella
Lovely Looks like the colouring on my little Barbu D'Uccle but without the hassle of massive feathery feet
sparkysmum
gorgeous I can well understand why you would want one
The Dogmother
Lovely the markings are a lot like my little mille fleur pekin pulet
Valkyrie
They all seem to be a little similar don't they. I love Barbie Duckles too. Mille fleurs are so pretty - I rather like the porcelain colours. Interestingly enough I found more TNN birdies - can't remember the name but I think they were the originals. Seeing as they are a big fave in South Africa it's little wonder that the organic farm has them - the owner is Jody Scheckter! Sorry sjp! It even says on Feathersite you either love them or hate them. I don't hate them, I just prefer feathery necks. And they are delicious! *she says while ducking* But the orpie has a good naked neck disguise going on - she is half the size she was as nearly all her feathers seem to have gone with the wind! Beantree
There is a naturally occurring Asian naked neck as well Sjp. It is after all just a feather depleting hormone that does the job and it happens to collect in the skin of the neck mainly. Of course TNNs are the only national breed of Romania. We happen to have a cockerel who is ¾ original Romanian strain -his hens are from Leeds! Very pretty Valkyrie, but I have to admit we are running out of space since we bought three young Marans, so more birds isn't an option. Luvachicken
Very pretty Valkyrie - she looks just like my Gemma I hope you get some soon and post pics
Lewis
I like this one but I'm not sure the other's really 'do' it for me - sorry K Bit like the Speckled Sussex, I don't really see the point
Minnie&Moose
They look lovely - I particularly like the ones having a bad hair day
Valkyrie
I like that one too Lewis - especially the tufty bonce! Hmmm. Tufty. Well that's the name sorted already! Nope, on strict instructions not to get any more - he wants our garden to look pristine for would be buyers. And then my smallholding and then my menagerie! Although I think we will just be down to the orpie and the maran then. He'll be lucky having a pristine garden with even those two JCB's on the go! But he didn't say anything about me looking and adding to my list though!
Charlottechicken
They look really pretty! I went to Hanbury Hall on Friday and they have a pen with some banties in, Pekins, Nankins and Dutch gold. All so tiny and made the softest noises when I spoke to them
Valkyrie
Ooooh lovely. I like little chats with chickens.
Chortle Chook
I realise it is not the breeds that I'm after, but the colourings. I love millefleur and lemon and also any of the laced colourings. Blacks don't do a lot for me - can't see them in the shrubbery
Valkyrie
I agree - it's nice to have different colours in a flock. It was basically a variation on a grey theme including black with only one brown. Now the browns are taking over. Although I did love the green sheen on our pekin, so that's my future Croad - always wanted that. I may have to go for a different Faverolle though - already have a wheaten maran so will be looking at those colours. And I do like a bantam/big bird mix. I don't really want a huge talking yellow big bird though.
Chortle Chook
Trouble is, I find it quite hard to get the different colours in the breeds, as they always seem to be sold in same colour pairs or worse in trios You made me laugh, Valkyrie, with your "I don't really want a huge talking yellow big bird though" I think that may be something I want as my next vacancy will be filled, I hope, by an orpington. A white Silkie cockerel is also on my wish list. I think they are so glam
Valkyrie
True, took me ages to find a wheaten maran. Oh and I'm eyeing up silver blue pencilled dotties too. We had a Jersey Giant a long time ago - perhaps a fair few will remember the photo - was my avatar for ages!
mullethunter
I realise it is not the breeds that I'm after, but the colourings. Actually that's true for me too if I think about it. Feather and egg colour. That's why Barnevelders, Marans and CCLs are top of my 'list'
