Oh no! Don't tell me that Egluntyne, I hated them as a child, they gave me nightmares and even now the music gives me a funny turn.

Thats why I am Soapdragon........loved the Clangers and used to make all my own soap (before children...it has sodium hydroxide in it which has to be left to neutralise out so not ideal with small fingers!)

 

Apparently they actually had a proper script but just 'whistled' it....brilliant!

We heard the creators interviewed some time ago and they said that there was one episode where the doors to the underground bunker got stuck and the script said 'oh no, the b****y doors stuck again' and, when we watched that episode the 'whistle' was exactly the same !!!!

"Swanee Whistle" Is the proper name for the whistley thing.

Yes, it was Soupdragon but, as I loved the clangers and made SOAP thats what I decided to use as an Omlet name

Never really saw the point of them - bit like the Teletubbies - pointless things that appealed to small children and some adults

Ooh, I loved the Clangers too! Yes, I'm pretty certain I understood a lot of the dialogue as well.

 

I'm feeling rather deprived though as I didn't have a swanee whistle to play with as a child

Watched the clangers, magic roundabout, play school, jackanory.......u name it. Frustration was Blue Peter as no such thing as coloured tissue paper or double sided sticky tape in early 70s up here! We had empty toilet roll tubes, newspaper (no fancy glue) and a bottle of fairy liquid that took mum weeks to empty for the plastic tube!

I still remember the wire coat hanger Xmas decs covered in tinsel that they made, lol!

The tower hadn't long opened, and we'd been up it with our parents. I din't mange to make the model though.

Blue Peter was never really a favourite programme - although OH was on it once with the scouts and he had a badge. He's lost the badge now but I did see it. Probably got mislaid in our house moves.

 

Um, I started off with a predecessor of Clangers - The Pingwings! Same people, same knitted things but with penguins.
