Too hot!!!

Recommended Posts

Anyone else hate this heat?!

Everyone look at me oddly when I say I hate this hot weather. It really make me feel quite ill. Everyone around me is bursting with energy and I just feel like crawling into a (cool) corner and crying.

I need to venture out in a while and I will be taking an umbrella with me as a sun shade.

I hate it too! Fine if there's nothing to do but I'm finding it too hot to function normally. I have all the windows open and the curtains half closed...and apparently it's set to be hotter Sunday/Monday!

We have had a 'meet up' in the diary for tomorrow since Christmas with OH's aunt and partner from New Zealand. Plan is to go to RHS Wisley (they had suggested Brooklands but, given Father's Day and an 'event' on I think it will be heaving...hence opting for Wisley; both close to where they are staying!) The hour in the car each way won't be so bad as it has air con but I'm sooooo dreading the rest of the day!

On the up side, I do find it hard to eat much when it is very hot so just drink lots of water and think of the weight I might get rid of - esp as it's FAR to hot to go on the stepper!

I'm not a fan. I wish I had a fan. 29° here so I'm just drifting around really. I'm also ok if I can just relax at home. I absolutely won't go into town on a day like this. The thought of being on the tube with all those hot, sweaty, angry people. Also has anyone else noticed how lots of car alarms go off on very hot days?

RHS Wisley was unbearable! Beautiful gardens but I was simply too hot to get up any enthusiasm at all. Even copious quantities of water didn't help. The boys, 12 and 9, coped better than I thought and I was very proud of them; the obviously have more stamina than their mother!

The house was so hot when we got back as we'd had to close all but the highest, smallest windows so 27 degrees indoors. And they say hotter tomorrow with no respite until Thursday and no rain on the horizon - cold showers all round.

Hope you cool down soon Soapy

Thanks, DM. I must admit to feeling a bit of a grump but we get this kind of heat so rarely its a bit of a shock to the system. On the upside I did buy a very big straw hat in the Wisley shop, at half price too, but it was on the way out so somewhat a case of stable doors and bolting horses

Does anyone mind dreadfully if I hope for a thunderstorm? Just over Chalgrove and environs? Would that be OK  ?

I am finding the older I get, the more I am able to cope with the heat. Don't get me wrong; it has been super hot today. I went to an open day at a local garden (Horatios Graden) which was fabulous, but so hot! Had it been a few degrees cooler, it would have been much more enjoyable/bare-able.

I have just got back from a late evening walk with ED and the dog round the local park. Lovely and cool now, and much easier for ED in her wheelchair.

My issue is more with the uva/uvb rays which cause polymorphic blisters on my skin despite factor 50 suncream

I have to say Andy was in Bristol at weekend and was lovely compared to London which is dirty and sticky. Went to a nice bistro type place called Boston tea party for lunch and had iced coffees at a nice coffee shop earlier in the day name escapes me. Hope your girlies are coping with heat.

Bristol is my favourite city in the UK - with the possible exception of Edinburgh which I also love!

There's a few Boston Tea Parties around the city - if I remember correctly the company started here and has expanded a bit. One of the things I love most about this city is that, with the exception of the shopping malls and the high streets, most of the companies here are independent and/or local.

Next time you come down this way I recommend you try the following (or try one per visit or something):

The Primrose Cafe in Clifton; it's a small, upmarket square with lot of little bits and bobs shops in the area with a healthy amount of coffee and cake and pastries to be found. The service in there is great, and the food is delicious. If you like eggs benedict, they do the best in the city IMHO.

SoukKitchen in Clifton which does middle-eastern style food which is all delicious; a little bit further down the road is another place called Kuch which is similar, offering Persian foods - it is absolutely *delicious*!

Pigsty - if you like pork, this is the place to go; everything on the menu is pork related and is just delicious, although I have gone vegetarian so all I can now do is press myself up against the glass and look longingly at the food. It's a small place, it gets busy fast, and they don't take bookings every day, so if you want to go show up early. It's at a site called Cargo down by the harbour and there are a load of other eateries in the Cargo / Cargo 2 complex.

You should also go to St. Nicholas Street Indoor and Outdoor Market: they do a huge selection of street foods (Italian, Persian, Caribbean, Chinese, Mediterranean etc.). If you like cake go to the stall for the bakers called AhhToots - they do the best cakes in the entire city in my opinion. Every time I walk past there I start salivating!

If you like pastries, go to Hart's Bakery which is just round the corner from the stationary. People often say it's "under" the station as it is situated beneath the road which leads up to the station doors. It's usually pretty busy, but it is worth the wait - the pastries are sooooooooo goooooood!!

...great - now I'm hungry!

No problem! I'm sure your son has lots of places he thinks are great too, but if you want any more suggestions, just ask! :)
