redfrock
Can you believe it! I managed to get all the way to my thirties, having evey illness imaginable as a child bar chicken pox only to find yesterday morning that I had red spots all over my chest . Doctor confirmed chicken pox. It has spread rapidly and I am now covered head to toe. It wasn't so bad when I could cover them up but now they are across my neck, face and scalp. Not to mention the soles of my feet, my hands, back, legs, under my arms, in my scalp, inside my ear, ulcers on the back of my throat, tongue and inside my lips etc etc etc The doctor has signed me off work for 3 weeks . Unfortunately as this is my first year with this firm I only get 5 days full pay and 5 days half pay. I've not had a day sick leave since that operation this time last year and now I get a childhood illness! I know who I caught it from - my 6 year old nephew. I saw him just over 2 weeks ago, the day before he got it. I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch I must not scratch
Blackrocksrock
Oh No - how bad is that! - out with the calamine lotion and yes dont scratch - enjoy the enforced rest and wonder how many others will have it after you!!! Egluntyne
Oh no! How annoying and inconvenient for you. I hope it is over quickly. Top tip....try not to scratch!
Jules.
Poor you Try putting wheatgerm in your bath to help with the itching. Put some of it in an old pair of tights & run the bath- it turns the water green but is soothing. You don't need to use anything else in the bath to wash with. I also brought back some Aveeno anti-itching cream from America when I was there a few years ago, but I don't think you can get the cream over here. Thats' why I bought it while I was there Maybe forum member Mark can send you some over, or another Omleteer has some you can use? Mine has all gone now, used up on my own 2 children & my nephew when they had chicken pox . edit- can't spell aveeno right
chickencam
Poor you My OH had chickenpox when our 3 children had it about 10 years ago, he didn't feel too bad but he looked awful because he couldn't shave for about 3 weeks. He has brown hair but his beard grew out ginger As far as I am aware I have never had it but I must have picked up immunity some how when all of my friends had it when we were teenagers, because I was the only one without spots. Make the most of your time off hope you feel ok, and don't scratch
Chook n Boo Mum
Porridge oats used in the same way as the wheatgerm doesn't turn the water green, just milky, but does sooth the itches. Peppermint oil is also supposed to stop the itching. At least the weather is fairly mild, not so hot that you get hot & itchy & not so cold you have to wrap up & end up hot & itchy!!! Cut your nails or wear cotton gloves, but DON'T SCRATCH ! Sha x
ClaireG
poor you. Bicarb is also good in the bath to help stop the itching.
feemcg
You can buy the Aveeno (colloidal oatmeal) products in Boots and used to be able to get them on prescription (I think you still can). The bath soak is great for itching http://www.aveeno.co.uk/products/category/intense-dry-skin-range
Tiggy
you poor thing, there's a lot of it about at the moment
MedusA
How irritating for you. Some very sensible anti-itching suggestions have been made. It's key that you don't pop the vesicles in order to avoid scarring. Hope it's not too bad. {{{Get well vibes}}}
Tessa the Duchess
DH had chicken pox really badly when he was in his late twenties. He scratched and has some scarring, so 'don't scratch'!! My eldest son had chicken pox when he was about 9 I can clearly remember being up with him all night, doing lego, because he couldn't sleep for the itchiness. Hope you feel better soon, and enjoy your break from work. TEssa

The Dogmother
Noooo you poor thing. How on earth did you not get it as a child? Now the spots are out, you're not infectious Take care and try not to knock the scabs off. I am told that Bio-oil (for scars) is good. Tulip
Awww poor you Hope hubby is looking after you. Let me know if he's away and can't - K and I aren't back at work til Tuesday. Good anti-scratch hints, be sure to follow them. And when you're feeling better come round one weekend and see the new garden and meet the girls - we owe you dinner for looking after the inlaws and chooks xx
Seagazer
My ex-neighbour got chicken pox when she was in her 30's and pregnant. She had it the same as you, in every place you could think of. You have my sympathy. Anti-histamines might stop you itching.
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh you poor thing . Sounds awful . Good luck with the not scratching .
Chickvic
How awful, especially with them being everywhere My DH had them in his 30's and got 3 spots on his arm and signed off for as fortnight. Oh and DON'T SCRATCH!!!
Chook n Boo Mum
Eurax lotion is good as an anti-itch lotion to use between baths. Sha x
Valkyrie
You'd better hunt for your mittens so you can't scratch! I hope you feel better soon. My son had such a bad bout - huge scabs and scars everywhere - even on his head (his hair didn't grow back - luckily he has a thick head of hair to cover the gaps). Unfortunately he collected them when they fell off - ugh! They were disposed of when I found them.
Alis girls
Bicarb of soda in bath and antihistamines ( Piriton) will make u drowsy but if at bedtime who cares - wish u better. nasty when u r an adult
Plum
Poor you. My husband caught it from the kids and threatened to book into a hotel the next childhood illness that came along. He didn't have too many spots but felt awful. Piriton may help stop the itch. Hope this stage passes quickly. Don't know if you've been told but don't scratch. Lesley
ANH - your avatar doesn't quite match your 'sorry' message! My 'DIL to be' has chickenpox at the moment as well - I got her some oily calamine to dab on the spots as it is more comfortable to use than the one which dries white. She doesn't feel too poorly but is off work for a while - she works in a littlies nursery and must have caught it on the last day of term before Easter! She's had chickenpox as a child as well! Carl was very poorly when he had chickenpox in his twenties - he was delirious for almost a week apparently.
Kirstine
Poor you! Sorry to contradict Claret, but you are still infectious until the spots crust over. Are people with small children starting to invite you round so they get it? I've never had chickenpox, or been in a household with anyone who has - but apparently it's not a good idea to scratch!
