MIL - RIP

Recommended Posts

its funny how you feel when someone dies, MIL was 80 & had been very poorly for a long time both OH & SIL said they wanted her to go soon because she was suffering so much last weekend when the diamorphine kicked in & she looked so peaceful it was hard to imagine then she had been so poorly for so long. she died in her sleep on Monday, all the nurses remarked how she did not have a single wrinkle :o she was a real character, did all the things are are told are bad for us, partied until she could not physicaly do it any more, had a brilliant sense of humour, but could be as stubborn as they come, they dont make em like that anymore, RIP MUM

So sad for you and your MIL's family but happy for MIL to have enjoyed a long and happy life with lots of partying and to have been painfree and peaceful at the end.

As I say to my 96 year old MIL, (who is also a party animal at heart) all her old mates from her youth will be waiting to party with her when she goes over.

I don't mean it in a horrible way but it is just what I believe and I realised it is what she believes (or wants to believe) but of course "Ooops, word censored!"ody wants to talk about it to someone who by dint of ill-health or age is going to find out for themselves sooner rather than later.

It is just very hard for those left behind :(

thankyou all for your replies, its nice to have friends all be it virtual ones, MIL will be joining FIL who died 18 years ago in the family plot in Ludlow, e mail has surpassed telegrames these days & I am suprised how many people have sent mesages. My in laws ran a business years ago that employed so many people many have fond memories & are getting intouch. My OH & SIL are very aphreciative of all the kind words. It is the end of an era

funeral went OK, everyone was fine until her grandaughter aged 11 read "footsteps" not a dry eye in the house. Most of OH rels are getting on a bit now and its quite a trip from Lancashire, Manchester & round-a-abouts. we put a collection of photos up on pin boards & left the albums out for folks to look at, it was great watching them all try to find themselves in them. A real eye opener was looking at the grandaughters and seeing pictures of MIL at the same ages, really fasinating.

My SIL did the family flowers, a simple tied bunch of sunflowers & lavender from the garden from the grandchildren, and she made a basket up from flowers brought from the market that day. the rain held off for the buriel which was good.

MIL had been disabled for many years after a stroke and was very poorly for the last few months, hopefully OH & SIL can move on with their own lives now, every holiday was tinged with worry about MIL passing away without us there.

It was lovely to hear stories from the relatives about all the tricks they got up to when MIL & they were young together, lots of giggles from the grandchilren who denied ever doing such things

I'm glad to hear everything went well at the funeral...and the weather was kind to you!

Funerals needn't be totally sad affairs, reminiscences after all very rarely are, we tend to remember the good times before the bad ones...the photos are an excellent way to get families to mingle & talk which is difficult in some situations, where you end up with pockets of people in corners & never mixing  .

{{hugs}} to you & yours Tiggy,

Sha x
