Bara Brith, which everyone loved! Nearly all gone, essential you eat it with butter spread on I think. I made the traditional recipe with no fat in it which was weird and I was dubious about how it would come out, but I needn't have worried. It was declared one of the best cakes I have ever made......praise indeed. Plus it is really good for you with all that dried fruit and wholemeal flour.

It wasn't today, but we had some friends around at the weekend.

Slow roasted pork shoulder, rare breed free range. Cooked for 6 hours, served with home made chutney and coleslaw and bread rolls (didn't make them, was short of time)

Recipe from good food magazine June issue.

Went down a treat, they even rang the next day to let me know how much they enjoyed it.

Simple food with loads of flavour.

I did a recipe testing at the weekend.

Carrot Cake,

Mary Berrys Recipe from the new book and Good Housekeeping from a rather old book we have had for years.

Good Housekeepings recipe won 10-0

But don't give up on Mary Berry just yet, her Chocolate and Beetroot cake went down a treat with everyone

Mary is usually a favourite of mine, I love her iced lime traybake for a quick cake fix.

this recipe was just to "healthy" tasting, made with Wholegrain SR flour and no butter, non of the tasters enjoyed it and they were aged between 12 and 76!

The cherry bakewell cipcakes from The Great British Bake off book, they are nice but rose too high for me to flood the top with icing, although that would have probably been too much icing for my taste anyway, lovely light tasty cake with the ground almonds in it.

My DS who is on study leave is currently making himself a florentina pizza from scratch, messy business :lol:
