Talk about thinking on your feet!

Recommended Posts

DD (8) lost her top front tooth on Sunday, so yesterday early morning, me & OH are sat at the breakfast bar, when we hear DD coming downstairs, DD was just about to open the kitchen door, when OH says very quietly "Tooth Fairy!".........we had completely forgot!!:oops:

DD comes through the door and tells us the tooth fairy hadn't been (she wasn't upset, just a little disappointed), to which, quick as a flash I say to her...."Do you know what, I don't think the tooth fairy works on a Sunday", and explained that she had to have a day off as she would be too exhausted otherwise.....well fortunately she believed me, and after a nights rest, the tooth fairy came last night!! (and to ease my conscience she left more than usual! :D ).

.....phew, got away with that!

We told my eldest he could hardly expect the Tooth Fairy to try negotiating the way to his bed with his room in the state it was, and that he'd have to clear the floor before going to bed if he was to stand any chance of her coming.

Worked a treat, and, at £1.00, was excellent value

Clever!

Rats! Wish I had thought of that one. We did have mass panics over lost teeth. DS lost his down the side of the settee because he was playing with it (the first tooth) - as the settee was old and falling apart, we tipped it upside down, ripped out the bottom and we still couldn't find it. So while OH was stapling the bottom back onto the blasted chair, I told DS that perhaps if he wrote a letter to the fairy then it would probably be OK as they are small enough - or have enough magic to find it.

We have used that little ploy many a time and I have a little collection of letters from both children tucked in a little box with their ivory. And we still have that awful blooming settee (seen a nice one in Overton though - need to redecorate now, oh bah humbug).

I woke up about 3am one night having suddenly remembered that I forgot - sorry, the Tooth Fairy had forgotten :D to leave money under DD's pillow - so cue stumbling around half asleep raiding piggy banks and pure trying to find a coin, she very neaerly ended up with a pillow full of 2p's that night

 I remember once my tooth fell out and the tooth fairy didn't come ... Mother said it must have fallen on the floor and it was conveniently there when I went to look with her :wink:

The next one there was glitter on the window ledge where 'the tooth fairy got in'

I did the ultimate act of inadequate mothering by forgetting the goods twice! The first time I told my daughter that perhaps the fairy was poorly and would come the next night. Wracked with guilt in advance of the following night I made a tiny note (typed on the computer with an suitably tiny olde worlde font ) from the fairy explaining that she had torn her wing on a rosebush and couldn't fly. I even 'aged' it by fraying the edges and wiping it over with cold tea and sprinkling coffee granules on it like forgers do, to make it look like parchment. In the morning she was over the moon, especially as the fairy had left £2 instead of £1 as a consolation prize.

Sadly I blew it only a month later by forgetting a second time! My daughter arrived at my bedside with a grumpy face the next morning saying 'you just fell asleep and forgot to put the money there Mummy, didn't you?'

End of a lovely childhood fantasy.

That can be remedied - there are so many children losing teeth that the fairies can't manage to get round everyone - and don't forget they must get very tired carrying those coins around - they are only tiny after all. That was acceptable when I had forgotten once. I also wrote a note with very tiny writing (thank goodness for magnifying glasses).

Like Floss the fairy!
