Snow

Recommended Posts

Oh Christian,I bet you are gutted!:lol:

14 inches! I bet its realy daunting

It actually is.

There is just too much of it to do anything. Both school & college are shut until next week, hubby probably won't get into work tomorrow either, but we have supplies.

Mostly its just boring, as apart from looking beautiful, you can't do anything much.

Millie, our dog loves it though,& hurtles through it like a snow plough, nose first.

Chilli the cat is deeply unimpressed by it all,& has heaps of pent up mouse-slaughtering energy in him.

He keeps ambushing us from behind doors & stuff :lol:

The Sky dish has needed to be cleared off 3 times,as the huge amounts of snow on it have stopped it working, but we have heat, electricity & food,so its pretty cosy really :D

So pleased to hear others have wild cats. Our Poppy has been the same- and has checked every door and window to see if there is better weather elsewhere!

Every time I've gone out to the chooks I've been drenched by snow falling from over-hanging trees - it gets to be unfunny after a while!

Still, we have food, plenty of loo rolls, dog, cat and chicken food, a roaring fire and lots of wine available so I think we'll survive a bit longer. I wouldn't mind the work broadband going down though - as long as the Omlet one doesn't.

-14C with us, cold enough that OH (clapped-out) deisel car won't go (the deisel gels at about -10C). Also cold enough for the river to freeze, and local lake to freeze solid enough to be a skating rink... potential bonspeil (big curling competition) on lake at weekend, last one was in 1979 so v excited. Also v cold.

And, fairly easily able to get to work with my trusty little car + trains.

Travelled to work in friends land Rover - very chilly but didnt slide once despite scenic route down an ungritted country lane. Rang OH and informed him I wanted a Land Rover - his reply is not printable. Cats not impressed they go out front door and come in back. OH asked how many cats we have as he seemed to have let a lot in  Bunnies look miserable and were very cuddly when I put them to bed.

I can't believe how much snow we have had over the last two days! I'm terrible because the second i see snow I turn into a 4 year old. In fact today a four year old came into the shop better behaved than me twas shocking!!! All Ive done since the snow came down is complain that i'm at work and can't play properly in it(even though the last two days i have had major snowball fights), and then facebooking that I can't wait to go sledging when I finish work. My boss finds me highly amusing.

Snow time be the only time adults get to be and act like a child woooooo!!!

Travelled to work in friends land Rover .

We didn't even take the Land Rover out today! - the only vehicles on the main road when we went down to look this morning were tractors. Carl was supposed tp go to Kenilworth but even if he could drive, the roads are littered with cars which didn't make it last night!

It snowed all night and again this morning - we now have around a foot of snow. Watering the animals is a nightmare as all the outside water is frozen. Carl has had to carry buckets of water from the house - not much fun when you're delivering it for 2 cows and 11 sheep!....and when the snow goes over the tops of your wellies....

I have been out in it, very carefully, but it is going very cold tonight and so I will be housebound tomorrow because of the ice. Then, I can be as grumpy as Lauren who is on crutches and had to watch while all the village children played in the snow :(

I love Chelsea's snow photos - alongside her location "Sunny Devonshire"

This was the start of the snow yesterday - Tali's first snow!

Much more fun this morning!

Hens were not too impressed!

Great pictures Lesley

We have waterbutts up the field and siphoned off water in to dustbins for days when the waterbutts were frozen luckily

The sheep are horrified by the snow and have stayed in theiir stable (door is open all the time) so we are getting through hay and straw like its going out of fashion  all the hen houses/hutches etc.. now are straw filled too and four Ikea shower curtains have been fashioned in to hutch covers and windbreaks

I have two chooks in the kitchen from the wooden cooop that has no door and the two cockerels from the hatch with no door have joined the bantams in the Eglu as an emergency measure (bantams a bit cross about that but the boys won them over  )

Huh. I am still at work. Worst place to be snowed in? Yep, that would be the office. AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHH. No trains. Waited ages on freezing cld platform with about 99,999,999,999,999,999 other people. My OH (who has my car) is going to pick me up. At about 8.30pm.

Seriously hacked off now.

It isn't even snowing (much) it's just everything is frozen, like points and rails (hence canceled trains) and deisel (hence no OH car) and roads and trivial things like that.

Well we had about 6/7" on Mon eve/Tues morning so schools were not in on Tues or today. Apparantly they have had contractors in today to try and clear some snow so my brother and sisters are back tomorrow unless we get heavy snow overnight which is not forecast. In the 7 years i was in high school i never had a snow day and they have had two in a row! Dad has just been out to drop my sisters at guides and the temperature said -11 degrees! Not sure how accurate it is but basically its freezing out there. Which means the roads, especially those that havn't been gritted will be awful tomorrow.

Our track was snowploughed by the farmer and my dad and brother cleared the driveway and paths around the house on Tues morning. We have also been living out of the fridge and freezer. I went to the village shop on Tues and have never seen it so busy with people buying milk/bread etc

Keep safe everyone.

Hope you get paid overtime Chickenanne!

I love the brilliant photos you have all posted, especially the dogs playing in the snow :D

We've only had about 3inches here but still got sent home from work early at about 3pm, trouble was everyone else was sent home too and it was the worst rush hour traffic ever! So didn't end up getting home that much earlier than usual :(

Blackrocksrock I was thinking about you this afternoon and hoping you were alright after seeing the amount of snow you have had on the news. Very bad at Ballandaloch with the farm building roofs collapsing with the weight of the snow

No more snow for us after the flurry this morning so I went to work, the roads were not good and I shaking when I arrived there. I think our snow is starting to melt as I can see the stubble in the field behind the house and some of the plants are appearing in the garden.

-20c forecast up here for Friday night  I will put the summer duvets in with the the winter ones to keep us warmer in bed if it does get that cold.

Natalie's school closed until Monday as the bus company has decided not to put their buses on the roads.

Glad you are ok ali=s - we are doing ok just being able to keep warm - I dug a wider path for my girls at lunch time and encouraged them to come out of the eglu run which is covered in plastic corrugated stuff and covered in so much snow its dark in there - they are fine and laying for the first time in months too!. They dont like it though!. Bit of a mess and loads of sheds and cattle buildings collapsing One of our sheds is dodgy too - not a big shed but will be a mess if it collapsed down. Take care and keep warm

P1010079.jpg my back garden now - cannot go and measure as much higher than my wellies
