Guest
If you had a reasonably clear view towards the west tonight, just after sunset you may have noticed this very thin crescent Moon with Venus above it. ("And what does this have to do with chickens?" you might be wondering.... you got me. ) grd

Sheilaz
That really is an incredible photo, Graham. I imagine you must have to be very patient waiting around on unsuitable days and then it all pays off with a gem like this. We wouldn't have had the same good view here tonight, rain cloud & smog)so it's doubly good to see it. Chickens? Doesn't have to be a connection! There is another forum that I peek at where all chat has to be forum related. We wouldn't stand a chance doing that here would we? Anyway, you could say "This is the view from the Eglu tonight." Looking forward to some more photos Graham.
Popcorn
That could be a very good thread Sheila! Views from the Eglu with the changing seasons. It reminds me of a film called Smoke. Augie (Harvey Keitel) plays a tobacconist and his shop is on the corner of a cross roads in the town. Everyday he sets his camera up in the same place, pointing in the same direction and he takes a photo at the same time. It's a great dialogue film and his pictures are great. A very beautiful, peaceful photo Graham.
Egluntyne
Simply beautiful. Flog it and retire on the proceeds. I can see it as a poster in student bedsits for the next 20 years.
Guest
That's a great photo Graham - I wouldn't even know which direction to look for Venus!! - and to get the two together - that's pretty awesome!! I do know where a full moon is, though - I took this out of the boys' bedroom window a few weeks ago.. that night the moon was so bright - I don't think I've ever seen it brighter... full moon with spooky clouds!! I used to be a werewolf - but I'm alright now-oooooooooooooooooooo! Phil

Snowy
Incredible picture Graham As for the chicken link - that bottom cloud looks just like a chicken speeding towards a grape - beak wide open...

AnnieP
Graham! Stunnig pic. We'll be looking tonight. Actually, I have to tell you this... After your last photo of the Comet, last Sunday OH and I drove to the top of a huge hill where the views of sunsets are fab in the hope of seeing it. We waited an hour before giving up. Came home and had a quick look at the Internet, only to find that it had disappeared below the horizon the evening before! Still, it was a nice way to spend a peaceful hour! bronze
Lovely pics I can never tell planets aprt from very bright stars so I'll trust you on that one
Charlottechicken
Another lovely pic Graham! New camera or old this time? Here's my transit of Venus across the face of the sun from June 2004 It went a bit funny on it's way to photobucket, I think because it was taken with my old 2 mega pixel camera. Venus is the dot at the bottom by the way!
Linda
I love these pictures. I could spend hours watching the sky! Good job I don't do it that often, or I wouldn't have any time for the forum!
Tina C
I love that photo. We have just been looking out of the window and we can see the moon and what looks like a bright star south east of it. Is that Venus again? Not very good on this planet business so no sniggering please if that just wouldn't happen.....
Linda
That's just the view I have here, Tina. It's a lovely clear night for it. I wouldn't know if it is Venus or not, but it certainly looks pretty similar to Graham's photo, doesn't it.

The Dogmother
We saw the self same view on Saturday evening, stood and admired it for about 10 minutes - makes us feel quite small doesn't it (well, I'm smal anyway ) Phil's always got his telescope outside or out of his attic window - he got some great shots of the transit of venus too. Yours is fab Claire
Charlottechicken
Thanks Claire - it was the old camera! grd You'll have to break the new one in soon, Graham . BTW do the digital SLRs have the hole in the shutter release where you can put the extension thing (technical term ) in, for long exposures and the like? Thanks Graham and Clare for your nice comments about my photo, I've gone a bit now!
Nicola H
BTW do the digital SLRs have the hole in the shutter release where you can put the extension thing (technical term ) in, for long exposures and the like? Do you mean the cable release Claire.............Mine has a wireless remote control which does the same thing, the camera I use is the Canon EOS 400D and I am very impressed with it so far.........I still haven't worked out all the manual functions yet. I am so used to using my old Bronica with a seperate light metre that it may take me a while to work this new camera out.
Charlottechicken
Do you mean the cable release Claire..... That's the name of it, thanks Nicola! I've got 3 or 4 of them, the really long one with the balloon on the end, and several short ones, couldn't for the life of me remember what they were called! That's the trouble with these high tech cameras. I have attached my new Practica (not SLR ) on to the tripod to encourage me to use it properly. I can't imagine ever using some of the settings or functions though.
