Inconsiderate Dog Owners

Recommended Posts

They make me mad...

Now I am sure it aplies to no-one on here, but why are some people so inconsiderate to other people on the footpaths?

Cycling to work this morning on a busy canal towpath, that is also a designated Cycle Route, where this stupid woman is also walking her dog. Now I have no problem with people walking their dogs. They have as much right to be there as I do! But please, where there are loads of cyclists and other users, why can't some people keep their dogs under control, and prevent them from running all over the place and crashing into cyclists and nearly tipping them into the canal!!! And then she glares at me as though it is all my fault! It wasn't as though I was going very fast at all either!

I think I am going to have to start taking a towel and change of clothes with me incase I meet her again and do end up in the water...

Bad, bad dog owners. :(

I have never forgiven the stupid whiny woman whose stupid Yorkshire yappy terrier used to terrorise me on my bike as a teen. I could never run it over because she was watching, so it used to chase me and try to trip me and my bike up, and then take a running jump for my kneecap and HANG from it. Of course, doggy mother had never seen it do that before!

How about having a quiver full of sticks on your back to entice the darling doggies to go for a little swim before they can get caught in your wheels? :D It's good exercise for them.

That could be really dangerous for both the cyclists and the dogs  No wonder you are cross C & T.

My gripe is with inconsiderate dog owners (who give other dog owners a bad name) that leave piles of dog poo on the footpaths and don't clear them up  I HATE it, I hate not being able to walk with my head up because I'm too busy watching out for poo on the ground, especially when some other poor soul has trodden in a pile and walked it half way up the street, I hate attempting to push the pushchair around piles of poo and even worse having to clean poo off the wheels or my shoes or Bogwoppit's shoes before we can go in the house, it's disgusting and vile and oooooh it makes me cross  !! (Can you tell?! )

This is something gets me really angry too  It can be like an obstacle course some days when walking to the school. The other week there was a pile right outside the school gates, I dread to think how many children (and adults) stepped in it.

my youngest plays football and I am forever having to check the pitch for dog poop, not my job, but someone has to check as some dog owners just don't care. I have two dogs, I know how to clean up after them and so does every member of my family, it would beggers belief that some people think its ok to leave their dogs mess behind.

As for her using the same canal path, yes she should be keeping her dog under control.

I am forever clearing up after other folks' dogs in our local park when I walk there in the morning; lots of children play there and the consequences don't bear thinking about

If the canal path is a designated cycle way, then the dog owner should certainly have their dog under control or on a lead.

Again, the minority spoil things for the law-abiding majority.

It is so annoying isn't it, very dangerous on both counts.

We get so angry when we see piles of dog poo left on the ground. There is a park very close to our local primary school and there is always lots of stuff left. My ES stepped in some and ended up with it in school. Disgusting.

Theres absolutely no excuse for not picking up after your dog. I've always got pocketfulls of bags.

Now I love that idea!!

There are so many considerate owners out there - but the few who aren't do tarnish the rest.

The other one that irritates me is the hanging bags of poo off tree branches. Now I know that many do this and pick them up on the way back home, and in the more rural areas I understand this completely, and would probably do the same - but in our built up area where lots of children are around it is not such a good idea - plus some bags hang there for days. Yuck!!

Is that why they're in the trees then? I thought some people just lobbed them into the woods. I've never understood it when they put the poo in the bag and then just leave the bag in the woods or on the path. We've carried bags of poo for miles on walks until we can find a bin.

It is quite easy although a little bit of work for dogs to be trained to poop at home and not on the streets at all. With that and all the pooper scoopers etc, there's no excuse for it left everywhere and I really hate people saying ' It's ok he's just playing', maybe I don't want to play. I'd like a choice. I like dogs it's often the owners I'm not keen on.

I have an Onya muksack for when we're on long walks away from dog bins, then I can pop the poo bag in it and empty when we find a bin.

At first I thought,"What a brill idea."

I'm absolutely meticulous in picking up my dogs' poo in parks and streets but is there a need to in the countryside? It soon gets washed into the ground and disappears and after all "Ooops, word censored!"ody picks up fox and sheepdog poo :?

I do sometimes find little plastic parcels in the middle of nowhere as if somebody has poo picked and then got fed up carrying it :?:?

i think you should pick up WHEREVER you happen to be. If you're walking there then probably so are other people.

There are some lovely green walks by us which are ruined by other dog owners just leaving their dog's mess all along the paths.

I don't mean paths. If it's a designated path then yes I would poop scoop. I do a lot of hiking off piste in the hills and never bother there.Anyway, the dogs are off somewhere in the heather or long grass and never foul where I am walking so it's difficult to spot.

I do see a lot of evidence up here along trails where people have gone alfresco and not buried it leaving loo paper strewn about behind walls etc. :vom:

I really am in agreement with you on this. :x

We are dog lovers but also understand why dogs have to be on leads on cycle paths. A couple of years ago OH and I were cycling the Tarka Trail in north Devon, (I am not a confident cyclist), I was coming downhill fast approaching 2 women and 2 dogs - ringing our bells and they could clearly see us coming as they were coming the opposite way. Neither bothered calling their dogs and one ran straight infront of me and I almost went over the handlebars. and they just walked on regardless leaving me shaken and angry!

I have had run ins with dogs on shared pedestrian/cycle paths too. I don't usually use them as I cycle quite fast and am better off on the road. However sometimes they represent a useful short-cut to nice quiet roads, so I take them.

The worst culprits are dogs on those stretchy leads - owners don't pull them in when a cycle warns them they are coming, and they have on several occasions tried to wrap themselves around my bike. And I've been bitten on the ankle twice by an inadequately controlled dog on a stretchy lead. "Ooh, he's never done that before" is the usual reply, with no discipline given to the dog who therefore thinks cyclists are a fun bitey game instead of something they shouldn't touch!

 YS has just run x-country - and come home with dog doo on his trainers. I walk my dog round same area and always pick up - even pick up others on occasion

My brother does alot of running and has been bitten numerous times :notalk: My own dog has also been attacked and is quite nervy now - amazing how many little darlings have never bitten before  Absolutely NO excuse for not picking up - would you leave it in the back garden - I think not

My mother was caught up in one of those on a pavement, left her with laddered tights and the owner never even apologised. She could easily have been floored as both her legs were effectively tied together and the dog had to be persuaded to go back the way he came to untangle her

I've stood in dog poo whilst foraging and walking through longer grass in the local park. Lots of poo on pavements round here too

Like others, I'm a dog lover and know it's the fault of the owners. My parents had a lovely Staffie when I was little and he rarely 'went' whilst out, he preferred the privacy of his own loo in the garden :D

I don't own a dog but often take dogs for walks. The other day, on the canal path, a chap came towards us with two dogs. One of them turned out to belong to a lady who was tending a horse in a neighbouring field. This dog was really aggressive - snarling and growling and "my" dog ended up in the canal just to get away from it. This other dog clearly thought that this part of the canal towpath was its territory. When I eventually managed to get Rufus out of the water he scarpered past this other dog. The owner called out, "She's fine. She's not aggressive at all." Could have fooled me!

DD was playing rugby on Sunday and there was dog poo on the pitch! :vom: Doesn't bear thinking about if someone was tackled into that lot!

I remember reading something about the New Forest where they were urging owners to clear up after their dogs even in really open countryside as the scent of meat eaters faeces was discouraging other wildlife from going to the affected areas.

our turkey was attacked on Monday by a dog off the lead which wandered into our property off a nearby park.

Quick witted next door neighbour had to kick the dog off as it wouldn't let go. Poor turks has lost LOTS of feathers and is a bit sore, but thankfully still alive.

Neighbour would have caused a riot if he's got a hold of owner. It's not the first time he or I have lost / nearly lost livestock to people who dont keep animals under control

I am nervous of strange dogs but do a lot of walking. A number of the paths I use clearly state that dogs should be kept on leads at all times. It annoys me when dog owners think that, because they have a 'well controlled dog' this does not apply. I have come home several times with a muddy coat where a dog has jumped up or a dog nose mess on my trousers where I have been sniffed.

Don't even get me started on dog owners (however well controlled their pets) who let their dogs off the lead in a field full of sheep at this time of year...

Sunshine, have you tried putting signs up along the path?

One walk we regularly use passes through private property, and the owners have, quite rightly, put up signs asking for dogs to be kept on the lead.

Ooooh can I add my particular brand of Bad Dog Rant here? Its the people who take dogs which are aggressive towards horses on walks along bridleways. I have trained all of my ponies to stand still if they encounter a barking dog but some dogs will actually start nipping at heels and tails! I always calmly explain to the owner that if their dog's head leaves its shoulders on the end of a hoof I wont be held responsible, but it astounds me that they think its ok to make their horribly behaved dog my problem.
