patsylabrador
Mine are taking ages to get any colour this year. I've suffered on freezing days in shorts, spent hours out in the fresh air and yet they are still so white I keep startling people. I don't use tanning lotions because I don't like the smell and look but then my legs have usually lost their bright whiteness by now. What to do. The Dogmother
you want to stand beside The Boy for comparison then - your get snow blindness looking at his legs! Sorry can't help otherwise; i'm pretty dark skinned.
lillybettybabs
I've invested in a St tropez kit and a fake tan mit, does a perfect job .
chickencam
My legs don't really colour. I wear cropped trousers or short when the weather is hot, but don't do sunbathing, so my legs don't really catch the sun much. My arms and face have coloured a little so far, I am fair skinned and blonde so my hair usually lightens quite a lot but my skin takes a long time to tan even slightly. My son who is dark blonde tans vitually instantly though.
jlo
I go from blue, to white, to red and then back again so can't help much. It always seems so ironic that you look so much healthier with a tan when it really isn't that good for you!
bronze
Takes a lot to tan me, my legs are the worst but the plus side is it takes a lot to burn me too.
Seagazer
Its a well known fact in my family that when I was younger I would often be mistaken for a French or Spanish youngster (has me worried now about possible skin problems from too much sun exposure ) but as I've got older it has got harder to tan (always safely ). My face and my legs take much longer to tan than my arms. I'm going to fake tan myself now on my legs and just before my holiday I will do the whole of me. Please don't do what my dad used to do and use baby oil
Charlottechicken
Milk bottle coloured legs here as well (despite having dark eyes and dark hair I don't tan easily)! I've never tried fake tanning stuff, and can't be bothered to lie around doing nothing so I just expose my ultrabrite dazzling skin and if others don't like the glare, they'll have to wear shades
bronze
Its a well known fact in my family that when I was younger I would often be mistaken for a French or Spanish youngster I get told I look french too, I do have french ancestry a couple of generations back so I guess its from there
Ain't Nobody Here
Another milk bottle legs here . I have the added attraction of 2 large stripes of slightly red skin where I got burnt on a weekend in Spain recently .
theherd123
Another milk bottle here too! Some people think I get a slight tan but it's an illusion as my freckles just come out and gang up! I use a self tan/tinted moisturiser Dove product on my legs, it's called something like 'Summer Shimmer' and works really well - just a little colour and doesnt make you look like an orange! Looney
Another milk-bottle white with a tinge of blue here too! My arms and face (+freckles) get a bit of colour but not my legs. I spent 7 months in Spain and still came home with paler legs than most people that had been on a two-week holiday I think the fake tans make me smell funny I have friends that use them and they don't smell but I definitely notice a funny smell when I have tried them, and I have tried several types. Might just be an odd reaction to me! Sticking with pale now
Alis girls
i can't use fake tan for love or money - I end up blotchy. I use the Johnsons stuff which gives me a glow. On downside friends dog makes a beeline for my feet andl licks them when I;m wearing it.
Treekeeper
I fell asleep in the sun at the weekend and now I look like a nougat! Legs and arms are bright red rest is startling white
chickenNutter
Dove summer skin stuff not too bad on the smell front, and these tinted body moisturisers don't streak or make you orange. I have given up trying to tan, and use this stuff all the time.
Lesley
My legs just do not tan but the rest of me tans very easily. I've been gardening from early in the morning and wearing SPF 20 and a hat but the top half of me is quite tanned and my legs are still very pale. I don't usually bother and just wear a long skirt if I go out anywhere but I do have a calf length dress I want to wear for an outing and decided to use fake tan. I was going to trawl Boots and see what was on offer but I got chatting to some women at the swimming pool and they'd tested one at a pamper evening at Debenhams and were singing its praises. It is Fake Bake Airbrush - expensive but I thought I'd give it a go. I actually got mine from Amazon as there were no parking spaces in town......and it was cheaper!.....and arrived the next day! It is brilliant! - it is water based, doesn't smell, doesn't come off on (white ! ) sheets or towels, lasts ages and it isn't orange!!! - my own tan is a pinky brown so orange legs is not a good look! The only downside is that it really needs two people - I used it wrongly because I couldn't read the info. even with my reading glasses on and I sprayed and then rubbed in with the glove supplied in the box. It really needs spraying from 12 - 24 inches away. I was still pleased as it took the glare away and the colour lasted well over a week. Cinnamon
I am a fan of the gradual tanning body lotions too. Johnsons Holiday Skin is good & the Dove one is also very good - very rich lotion & a nice smell. Dove do one with a whack of shimmer in it too now which is great as it makes your legs look slimmer I will be 'proper' tanning today then putting on some of the lotion for darker skin this evening. Lavenders_Blue
Another fake tanner here to cover up my milk-bottle-white-with-a-hint-of-blue-semi-smurf-colour legs I use THIS gradual tanner which I think is absolutely brill. Not dark, but enough colour to take the glare off my legs!
docsquid
Sorry, can't help here. I keep my legs fully covered up all year round - rarely wear anything other than full-length trousers, so don't need to tan my legs. They are covered in scars thanks to multiple injuries and operations, so I don't want anybody to see them anyway!
The Dogmother
I'm half Italian and a quarter Scottish, so have olive skin with freckles! Despite this I'm alwasy careful about the sun and never use less than a factor 30, mainly because I have a sensitivity to UVA rays and end up with nasty hives if I sit in the sun for too long, so it's short bursts only. I always wear a hat. Rosie has similar skin and tans easily too. She spends all day in the water given half the chance, so I use one of the all day waterproof ones in a high factor and top it up as the day goes on. Phil has beige rather than olive skin and dazzling white legs. Last year, we had the chance to go to my MD's apartment in the Algarve for 4 days and The Boy managed to take the edge off his white pins. His arms and face tan reasonably well provided he is careful, but he has what I call a truck driver's tan - head stopping at the neck and arms stopping where his T shirt starts! A work colleague has milk bottle legs and she says that she uses a Dove moisturiser with self tan itn it - it looks natural enough to me and isn't orange. kitbag
I am pale and proud!! being half scottish and having red hair though, it is probably to be expected!
bronze
I've tried those graudaul tanner ones, johnsons etc and still go streaky, especially my knees which I het dry patches on however hard I try. I think I'm destined to just not be very girly however hard I try
Cinnamon
What you need to do (sorry if you already know this), even with the gradual tanners,is to use a scrub on your legs first, then dry them, then apply the lotion. Dove is by far the best & I have tried most of them. Apply it to your lower leg first, avoiding the heel area, them missing out the knee area, apply to your thigh. Then, once it is all soaked in.LIGHTLY pass your hand over you knee & heel,so just the merest hint of lotion goes on. This way,it won't streak or go orange. Then wash your hands, paying special attention to your nail beds. Its important to use plenty too,as if you use too little,it can streak. I use about a 50p size blob for each leg, maybe a bit more Once you get the knack, its a doddle
sadietoo
Another one with very fair skin here too.. I use those daily moisturiser fake tanny things (Johnsons) and then I can cover myself with the factor 50 that my skin needs and deserves I just wish they could make the fake tan so that it doesn't make you smell like a hamster's cage after a couple of hours
The Dogmother
Right, I have checked with the young lady at work, who uses the Dove one - she doesn't seem to have streaky legs, nor orange feet. She does as Sarah mentions above, but uses a light body lotion beforehand as she says that her skin is dry and tends to 'grab' the tanner and leave rusty looking marks.
