docsquid
After a long saga getting DH to agree after he initially said we could have 6 chooks, but then went back on his word... ... we now have three lovely bantams who are home and settling in! Megan is not liking the new ones and croaking a lot, the other two big girls are fine. There is a lot of bokking because our neighbours got three chickens yesterday and they all seem to be having a bokking contest this afternoon. The little ones were trying to join in, bless them, even though they are really quite young and mainly go "peep" instead of "bok"! So, here are some photos... Three news girls - from the left, Deryn (silver-laced wyandotte), Dilys (lavender pekin) and Gwladys (frizzle silkie) Dilys Dilys again Deryn Deryn again Gwladys Gwladys again And Gwladys again That's the best I can do for now - they are obviously a bit nervous and I want them to settle down before they go to bed. They have dug up lots of the bedding and chucked it into the water pot, so I've put that up on a pallet so they can't get it so mucky. DH thinks Gwladys "looks ridiculous" but he is softening, I can tell The neighbours love them all and don't seem to mind that all nine chickens (six of mine and three of theirs) are trying to out-bok each other. I'm so happy today!

docsquid
Was it hard to choose ? It was VERY hard to choose - there were so many lovely little banties. Just let my heart rule my head a bit but they all seem quite settled. The big girls are completely ignoring the fact that they are in the intro pen in the WIR! Now I just need to get Ozzy the cat to ignore them too - he's been camped out by the side of the WIR looking at them all afternoon, despite our best efforts to distract him

docsquid
My big girls are scared of the new littleuns! They were cowering down the far end of the WIR from the intro pen, refusing to go into the cube until I put them in there. They were desperate to get out of the WIR even at 9.00pm! Meanwhile Gwladys the frizzle silkie has pecked one of our cats through the side netting of the WIR and he ran away - so that relationship seems to be settling down properly! I then had to put all the little girls into their cat carrier/temporary hen house as they didn't really know what to do. Gwladys got out again, and I put her in again with a certain amount of flapping and protest, and pushed the door closed. This way if there is civil war they can still push it and get out, but otherwise, they'll get the idea to stay in for the night, and I can let them out at 7am if need be. Quite a lot of cheeping/bokking from Deryn (she is the only one who can bok as yet), but there now seems to be relative calm in the hen house. Goodness knows what the morning will bring! docsquid
Thank you. They are settling in well - Dilys the lavender pekin is top chook of these three and she is squaring up to Blodwyn, my existing top chook. I guess once they sort out who is boss then the pecking order will follow! I got them from a friend who breeds chickens, and I'm so pleased with them.
