Dizzy-Deb
I am at work and so cold its making me feel ill. I so hate feeling frozen and its not even properly winter yet. Arrrgh!
Charlottechicken
Pretty toasty here without heating Sun's been out all day so far, so solar gain has taken the temperature in my kitchen right up to a heady 18 degrees, and I've line dried a whole machine full of washing too! Went out for a 2 hour walk this morning to the local charity shops and wore gloves for the first time, they definitely helped keep me warm. I've also got 2 pairs of socks on as I've dug up all the potatoes left in the garden this afternoon. There's a throw on the bed over the duvet and I've got the fleece nightwear out So far the house isn't going mouldy so I'll put the heating on when I really feel I need it but not before. Chicken Licken
I got really chilly this morning out for a run, so lit the Rayburn when I got home. The house is now snuggly and warm and the central heating is staying off for a few more days!! Holding out for the 1st October!!

You are doing well - I have the electric convector on - mind you am sitting with foot up as sprained it last week and the swelling always is up at night as I do too much on it !! thats another story. We have the oil tank sited and ready and the oil pipe is in the trench - trench filled with water and unable to fill above it with sand and then fill in as been too wet = lounge carpet was up and just managed to get it down today - had carpet man as we needed under it for a hatch and the kitchen and utility have no flooring as needed under it to sort out pipes - new boiler (yes OIL) is going in starting tomorrow - I have stuff everywhere and its a reall muddle but cannot wait for the boiler to be commissioned and the oil comes tomorrow Our previous heating was multifuel mainly wood and was usually out by morning so by doing this and next year putting in a wood burner in the lounge which has no fire meantime - just rads I hope things will be better in the winter and NO soggy towels- my daughter is arriving with the baby on saturday and still loads to do = if I only had not sprained my ankle!! we are toasty in bed with the window open and a wool duvet on the bed - no elec blanket but like a hot water bottle at my back to keep it cosy and I love my bed. The Dogmother
None on here yet, although I had the stove lit last night. The temp was 3deg this morning and a tad chilly, but this house holds its warmth pretty well, just bunged some socks and a trackie on top of my PJs to walk the dog. It warmed up nicely later though, Moochoo and I were positively glowing on our dog training session.
chickencam
We have had the heating on today, we had a very skinny friend of YD's for a sleepover last night and have 3 of ED's friends here tonight. I feel it reasonable to freeze my own family members, but not other peoples.
Valkyrie
It's still not too bad here. Today the wind was from the north and DS said he kept having to open his bedroom because it got hot, and then close again because it got hot - yo yo windows I think. But when I put the girls to bed it seemed much warmer and the wind direction had changed - and dropped too, so it feels fine tonight. Only a few days to go before October. Daphne
Like everyone else I'm holding out for Oct 1st - but the last 2 nights have been 4 degrees; its fine in bed but I find the evening on the sofa a bit chilly We lit the fire last night, and diguised it as a cop-out by cooking over it! Valkyrie
Well I did think it was quite warm indoors yesterday, but my feet took ages to thaw before I could sleep. Warmed them up on a snoring OH! My bad! Well he never lets me have a hot water bottle so he must suffer the consequences!
Laura & CTB
Couldn't wait any longer here! Heating has gone on this morning (as did the electric blanket ) and I have ordered a fire pit for the garden (that's to go next to the patio heater)
Valkyrie
I just asked OH if it was cold in here or whether it was just me and feel my hands. Warm he says. Right in that case if I stick my hands on your tummy would you say they were still warm? He declined and ran off. So it's cold in here today! Reikiranf
We held out until November last year and DS and I were set on trying to get to December, then DH ruined it by confessing he'd put the heating on one morning Will try and hold out until November again, we go to Florida in October so I'm trying to stay in summer mode, but as YD comes home from Aberdeen while we're away I'll probably come home and find the house like a sauna I will admit I'm not finding it easy at the mo and I'm rivalling a market trader clothing wise
Charlottechicken
@ Valkyrie and Reikiranf. Still no heating, nil solar gain today so house is 15.8 rather than 18 degrees, humph Have spent most of the day outside so appreciate the lower indoor temperature. I can't see me lasting much longer, certainly have no idea how some of you manage until November, brrrrr!
chickencam
We have managed until November in warmer years. I don't have a set date, if it is cold then I put the heating on or light the fire, life is too short to be cold. I have turned the heating off again after the weekend, but the fire will be lit most night's from now on.
Woodcat
It's been turned on here. It gets turned on as soon as i get creaking knees and ankles. I won't wear tights under jeans in the house to try and stop my knees getting cold and hurting it's one thing outside or when I'm at other peoples but home is meant to be comftable. Egluntyne
Him Indoors has let the side down and turned it on, breaking his 'not before the 1st Oct' rule.
The Dogmother
Him Indoors has let the side down and turned it on, breaking his 'not before the 1st Oct' rule. *tuts* Typical! Perhaps you'd better make him a blanket too The heating is on at work today, but not at home yet - the house doesn't feel cold. I will switch it on low when we feel cold, but it's set at 19deg, so it doesn't get too warm.
Egluntyne
I've turned it off again. The house was like a blast furnace.
The Dogmother
It's like that here at work... the icing sugar fairies in the front office have the heating on 'all day'; it's an old building and doesn't get that cold, but they are wearing their usual diaphanous outfits Have turned off the radiator in my office and I'm only wearing short sleeves. welovemarmite
I gave in yesterday and put the heating on. Its quite a cold house despite the cavity wall and the new loft insulation. Am working from home but not having it on all day.
Shirl
Our fire has been on yesterday and today but not the full heating. I had wanted to wait until 1st October but the OH gave in said he was thinking of me.
Charlottechicken
I'm actually warmer now in my unheated house than I have been all day at work, where the heating isn't on either and the temperature was higher. I thought I would have to cave in and put the heating on as I was cold when I got home (no heating on in the car either, just cold air on the screen) I've been in the garden for half an hour with the chickens and am now warm! Can't wait for Friday though, I'm ridiculously excited about not putting the heating on till October. Anyone who holds out until November, please let us know how you do it. welovemarmite
oh charlotte... you make me feel really bad.... if i go and turn it all off now it still won't count....i will still have failed.
Charlottechicken
don't feel bad! It depends on your personal circumstances, house etc. I'll have mine on by the end of the week no doubt but am fascinated to see how others manage without heat. I'm mostly looking forward to a lower gas bill out of this
