The Dogmother
Try turning the thermostat down a notch - what do you have it on? When I do put it on, we only have heating first thing, and then again in the evening - I am at work most of the day, and only pop home for lunch, so there's no point. At the weekend I have the same routine (unless it's really sub-zero) I just have the stove going full pelt and it gets the house really toasty. handsofblue
I want the heating on but we don't know how to work it :( They're Atlantic and have this weird programming control that doesn't work!!!! I'm cold

We do have a real fire but that then makes upstairs feel colder, and given that our offices are up there it can be a problem to just have the fire on sometimes. The Dogmother
Is it an open fire? You might find that you're better off with a stove; less tending to do and it burns hotter - more of the heat goes into the room as opposed to up the chimney with open fires. My bedroom is above the living room and gets quite warm from convected (no such word, but it sounds right) heat.
Valkyrie
We do the same Claret, usually once in the morning (7.30 - 8.30 which I find isn't good enough) and in the evening from around 6 until 10.30. But I sneak it on sooner if I get cold during the day. But it gets too hot in the bedrooms if the heating has been on too long. The radiators in the bathrooms run off the hot water so will heat up whenever the hot water has been used - even in summer. They can be turned down if we actually get a hot summer session but didn't find it necessary this year. Makes the towels nice and warm when you get out of the bath. welovemarmite
i do the same, but as I am at home most days it may sneek on for an hour or so during the day if its really cold...
chickencam
In the winter our's is on from 6am until 8.45, I then hold out until lunchtime then usually light the woodburner. If it is really cold I will sneak the heating on too if I am working on the computer. It then comes back on between 4.30 and 10.30 with the hot water, but we turn the thermostat right down after an initial boost, so that the bedrooms are cold by bedtime. It is a balance when you have children doing homework in their rooms, but it is a good way of getting them to come and sit with you in the lounge instead, where you can see what they are doing. C&T
We can't be the only ones still with no heating, no wood burner or anything?? Windows are still open, and haven't thought about getting the winter duvet out yet either... Perhaps our little patch in Surrey is a hot spot!! Charlottechicken
I haven't got any additional heating. I do put the portable radiator on to warm the bathroom before i have a shower, but that's more to stop condensation. I had the windows open this morning and am at home for the rest of the week with no heating on as yet
chickencam
It is still quite warm here too.
Charlottechicken
Should be OK today without heating, the sun is out I might treat myself tomorrow evening and put the heat on for a couple of hours, seeing as it will be October, and the longest I've lasted without heating on! The Dogmother
I relented and popped mine on for 10 minutes this morning just to take the chill off. We'll see how it goes, but the house will warm up nicely with all the sun pouring in today.
Charlottechicken
I have my heating on now! Put it on yesterday and turned the boiler temp down, and all the radiators. It's just taking the chill off but that's enough, and it is so nice and cosy now!
Chucky Mama
Just had our boiler serviced and they needed to turn the heating on to do it. It seemed sensible to leave it running to give the boiler a decent test
Daphne
I think I must be turning into Mrs Scrooge. This week I had a hot bath at 16.00 because I got cold rather than put the heat on and yesterday I put on some extra socks rather than the heating even though I'm 'allowed' and I've found myself thinking its not worthing lighting the open fire or the woodburner for one (OH is away). Apparently my brother is the same - I don't think we were brought up as masochists, my parents' house was always T-shirt hot. I've even been shopping in Edinburgh Woollen Mills for a sensible wool jersey - this shop is usually the preserve of my 82 year old MIL! I must get a grip
Mollie333
Heat has been on for half an hour this morning to warm the place up, then turned off when i got back in from letting the chickens out!
Egluntyne
I've just turned ours off again. The house is stifling.
Chickvic
Ours still hasn't been on, not feeling the chill yet
Valkyrie
We had ours on for about an hour last night as it had been so wet and yukky. Noticed that OH didn't complain.
Lavenders_Blue
Ours went on for the first time yesterday. Off again today as it's much warmer
abwsco
Now that Dad has been moved into the nursing home the heating is off. Am I allowed to rejoin under the No to heating is on please.
Charlottechicken
Of course! Mine is now on timer. It came on for an hour this morning and again at 5pm. It is on in 2 rooms, and really low, as I've turned the boiler temperature down and all the radiator thermostats too. It's really comfy here
Valkyrie
Ours is off again as it has been warm overnight and most of today, bit chillier now as it's been raining heavily, but the heating would go off at 10 in any case. I wonder what tomorrow will be like? Shall be doing roast so the kitchen will warm it up indoors.
