Martin B
I had Italian after school today! I finish at 5;30 and when I returned home I found... (Please excuse the quality of pictures!!!) They have no names, but they are Quail not chickens. I bought 2 dozen Quail's eggs from Tesco and they were put in the incubator.. exactly 17days later we have 3 little chicks! They are so cute, I promise better pictures very soon!!!!

Snowy
That is amazing Martin! I wondered what you were keeping up your sleeve in previous posts They are so cute - how do they compare to hen chicks, are they much smaller? And where will you keep them? And did you put all 24 in the incubator? (So many questions - sorry! )
bronze
Martin is the incubator yours or did you borrow it?

AnnieP
They are just the cutest.... Off to Tesco.... I wonder if OH could be convinced that a new fangled egg storer is necessary.... Do you reckon their Cream Legbar and other speciality eggs would be fertilised too?
Nicola H
Well done martin what cute chicks........... I remember a while ago somebody saying that the Clarence court hens ran with cockerals and that some of the supermarket eggs were hatching, I tried it last year when Bunty went broody but had no luck............. Cate in NZ
Lovely pics Martin, those chicks are so cute What are you going to do with them now they've hatched though Get another eglu (or Quai-lu ) and extend the flock? Sophie was waiting for quails to hatch on Saturday.......... I wonder if she's had any quail chicks? Sophie???? I'm a bit about getting so many chicks from Tesco eggs though. I know I'm silly etc, but somehow I dislike the idea of eating fertilised eggs........... not that I ever buy eggs from a supermarket
Christian
Well done Martin!!! Are these going to be pets, or is there a money making plan in the pipe work?

Lesley
Congratulations Martin - I'm so pleased it worked for you after the last two attempts with hen eggs. They are lovely (I must not go to Tescos - I must not go to Tescos.... )
Popcorn
I'm a bit about getting so many chicks from Tesco eggs though. I know I'm silly etc, but somehow I dislike the idea of eating fertilised eggs... Martin, what gorgeous pictures. They really gave me a lump in my throat. You've done so well, you must be a very proud Chick Daddy. Lovely. I almost feel as if you've rescued them from a certain death.... Kate - I'm feeling the same. Not sure if it's me being extra sensitive of late, but the thought that those three chicks could have ended up as scrambled egg is just too awful for me to think about. (I know how ridiculas I sound btw....)
Lesley
All our eggs are fertile as we have 4 cockerels - you have to not think about it
Guest
Martin, they are soooooo cute! I am getting so broody for more chooks now! We had a customer complain at my old Tesco when i worked there, that she had managed to hatch 2 chicks from a half dozen Clarence Court eggs. The manager had to point out to the silly mare that if she hadn't put all 6 under a broody chicken then none of them would have hatched! Cool news about your impending fame too We used to keep quails in our aviary (when I was younger and still living at home) - i think they were Chinese painted quails............ Just found this link.....do you think the chicks look like yours? http://freespace.virgin.net/thornton.applehaigh/CPQ00.htm Ours hatched one load of chicks, they really were lovely

Didn't realise you were a Sun reader Martin I don't wish to be a killjoy here, but seriously, I hope they don't: Not because I don't want you to have the fame and publicity, but I would worry that it would encourage lots of other people to try, people who have no idea how to raise and look after birds... but just who think it would be a fun thing to do....
